is there a way to mute instances?

Like I want to mute all posts from lemmy.ml lemmy.world etc. Comments are ok but I can't bear the Western chauvinism. These sites are probably the most propagandised platforms that I ever see on the internet.

Buying things made in the DPRK
  • Are you keen on methamphetamine? 😆

  • Do you guys know about soulseek
  • Never heard of these platforms. Did you work out how they compare? For me the draw of slsk is finding almost anything, including very obscure music, because of its dedicated userbase of filehoarders. Do you think the other platforms could offer that? I always like knowing of alternatives

  • Am I Elitist?
  • Yep that's a long one for sure.

  • US sees some dozen countries committing to Haiti force
  • Obviously I understand the extreme depravation and exploitation which Haiti has been subjected to for more than a century to give rise to this situation.

  • Lib infestation on Lemmy
  • Yeah, there's definitely professionals in the mix sometimes though.

  • Lib infestation on Lemmy
  • Also the constant dedication to downvoting seems like the behaviour of someone who is paid to do it. Otherwise why would you do that, normal people would get bored right? I don't go and actively seek out online communities I disagree with to downvote their posts. That would be such a pathetic way to spend my time

  • Lib infestation on Lemmy
  • It could be US government actors. They would only need to have a handful of people on the job doing fedposting and they would be very visible on Lemmy compared to other platforms because of the small userbase

  • Gay doctor flees Louisiana due to anti-LGBTQ+ laws: ‘I don’t have a choice’
  • Yes it is. You're just conditioned to think politics is this inconsequential mental game that has no impact on people's lives.

  • What's your favorite genre of music?
  • Atm big on experimental music, electro acoustic improv, onkyokei (somewhat a historically specific term but just this aesthetic generally). At other times I like various electronic and dance musics, classic jungle, UK garage, breakcore (both classic and sewerslvt core), free jazz, yeah. Fair bit

  • Gen Z will be last generation with white majority in US, study finds
  • So Spanish is not white but Italian is. And also Lebanese?? How the designers of these questions think they can get any meaningful data whatsoever from these questions is mind boggling.

  • How do you apply DiaMat in your daily life?
  • I have found it really useful for helping resolve interpersonal conflict, such as with partners or friends or so on. Also I think it would be useful to help with internal conflicts as well. Dialectical behavioural therapy is a type of psychotherapy for example that is supposedly very effective for personality vulnerabilities, although this might not be materialist specifically. I'm not knowledgeable on the topic but it's quite interesting.

  • Vent: Musk's Twitter rebrand
  • Jesus that's the slogan?? That sounds extremely fascist.

  • How would you deal with your dream job having really shitty pay?
  • Is it possible to do the well paid job for a while and grind it out to save some money then switch to the lower paid one after a few years?

  • Vent: Musk's Twitter rebrand

Funnily enough, of all the things that Musk has done with Twitter, this is the one which I realised genuinely bugs me. I hate the X logo and hate seeing the X icon on my phone. I realised I actually genuinely liked the cute little bird. I know it's not worth getting invested in, after all Twitter has always just been a for profit corporation. But for me this just exemplifies the problems with capitalism. Twitter doesn't belong to Musk rightly, it belongs to all of its millions of users who generate content, culture, and media on it and for it every minute. And yet a billionaire megalomaniac can come and shit on it and within less than a year fucking ruin it. There's no democracy in this. I've tried mastodon but I just can't get into it as much as lemmygrad. It seems too boring and just full of tech nerds. Unless someone can recommend a good mastodon instance to join?

  • I don't know if you're just being cheeky but this is not a useful approach at all.

  • Politics in Pokémon
  • Have you looked into the modding scene much? I think there's a lot of fan content that explores different aspects of the world. Though I can't say I've played much of them myself.

  • Discussion Thread: What are all you reading in terms of fiction AND non-fiction? - #22
  • Started reading Fanon's 'Wretched of the Earth'. So far just reading the preface by Jean Paul Sartre which is already very good, I imagine this was ground breaking and very exciting when it was released, during the time of great optimism in the "third world", the Bandung conference etc. For fiction I'm reading The Three Body Problem by Liu Cixin. I really struggle with fiction generally. I usually find it very hard to pursue fiction for some reason.

  • Just saw the Barbie movie
  • Give us your report when you do. I'd be happy to hear an alternative perspective from a comrade

  • Typical monster truck driver
  • Love how their endgame is literally just making libs cry. There is no end they won't go to for that goal.

  • do you browse chinese social media
  • Wechat is good for vegging out. I find it's far more international than Western social media. I routinely see shorts from all over the world, Central Asia, Europe, Africa, East Asia .

  • Just saw the Barbie movie

I mean I didn't expect it to be great but seriously. The most sanitised corporate liberal brainworm rubbish. Completely undercooked story. The film is basically just a vessel for monologues about women's empowerment, albeit in a completely shackled liberalist framework where the extent of empowerment is just female president and female CEO - standard lib feminist stuff. This film falls into the bucket of "virtue signal by consumption" media where just by seeing and enjoying the film, and more importantly understanding the wisecrack cultural references and feeling smug about it, the viewer becomes an active political agent. On a technical level, the writing is just bad. Like I said there's nothing but a very shallow plot. The writers just resort to monologues to present the politics of the film rather than allowing the themes to present themselves organically through narrative. The film is stacked with minority "representation", disabled, trans, fat, etc. But this so called representation is purely cosmetic, they are merely tokens in the choreography routines (which incidentally was one of the only parts of the movie I could kinda get into). This ended up being longer than I thought itd be. In short its nothing but a virtue signalling showpiece to stoke the fires of the culture war. I can already imagine what the right wing pundits will be saying about this film and what the liberal mob will be saying in defence of this corporate vacuous cash grab.

    this is a terrible idea.

This comes across as extremely arrogant, I don't think anyone is gonna respond positively to a bunch of brigaders coming into some random comment section to "educate".

    Chinese Grammar Wiki Anki deck

I just wanted to share this really good deck which I found. It's got grammar exercises from Chinese Grammar Wiki from A1 beginner all the way to C1?C2 level. some really clever card mechanics. Another deck to add to my resources. The more I uncover the more I realise Anki can be such an effective one stop shop for learning a language as it can be used in so many different ways!
