A case for getting men into female dominated fields
  • Part of the problem is also how men in those positions are treated by society. My wife went through a teaching degree, and the number of things men (they teach everyone this, but it's clearly more for the men) have to do in order to protect themselves from accusations (or even just rumors and suspicion. Always keeping a door open, finding other adults to be present if a kid wants to talk to you in private, etc. And many guys who had been thinking of teaching earlier years ended up switching to high school, since it's apparently seen as less 'creepy'.

I have no idea how we start to fix that...

  • [Houston Chronicle] Houston just started enforcing a decade-old ban on feeding the homeless. Volunteers are fighting back.
  • The idea is so beyond insane. It's like trating himan people like pideons or some other wildlife. Do any of these people actually think homeless people will magically become not homeless when they're hungry? I keep trying to think of any other alternatives, but no, you're right, the cruelty is intentional.

  • From the article:

Mullinax said that in recent days someone in her group had claimed Protzman “was taken out” but she dismissed that.
She did however claim that the person who died was in fact just one version of Michael Protzman, “the evil version” and that the good Michael Protzman—who is in fact JFK Jr. in a mask—is still alive and well.

    Just... Wtf.

  • Meh, I grew up next to some favelas, and that level of violence is another level entirely, it's just not covered as intently. People get kidnapped, families of rival gangs are targeted, not to mention the extortion.
That being said, the US has no fucking excuse. Central and South American countries suffering from massive gangs and civil wars, they have a good reason for having so many gun deaths.

  • So weird and obsessive to not only care about who might disagree with your comment, but to then seek to notify them demanding an explanation. Like I have to justify why I disagree or dont find any particular comment useful?

I diagreed because I am a gamer and I DO care about labor conditions in the industry. While I don't work in it, I have many friends that do and they identify as gamers and do care. I dont like making gamers a monolith, nor do I agree with the assertion that the reason they were disliked was due to them cocering labor issues. Thats why I downvoted the comment. I dont expect you or the others to agree with me, obviously, but the idea that you'd try to get people to justify it is fucking weird.

  • More Hillary voters voted for McCain than Bernie voters that voted for Trump.

Stop pretending that your shitty candidate is owed votes. This is juts like when Dems say that Green party voters should've voted for them. If you want that, then actually try to earn said votes.
