1 year of Unemployment... I just wanna disappear
  • Have you considered contacting faith-based organizations and explaining your situation and asking what they can do to help? Churches, Sikh temples if you have any, or charitable orgs might have or locate an opportunity directly or find one from among their membership to help someone in need. You might get lucky and whatever work they find you ends up teaching you a skill.

  • I pay $600/month for my "employer provided" health insurance
  • US-specific: The ACA (healthcare.gov) subsidizes healthcare insurance costs based on income. Especially in cases where you income is low this can be an awesome deal. Folks making $35k annually get stellar premium costs, deductibles, and out of pocket maximums. As income increases, the subsidies ramp down.

Unaffordable coverage: If your employer's plan is considered unaffordable, you might be eligible for premium tax credits through the Marketplace. The affordability test considers the cost of self-only coverage and family coverage. For example, if your share of the premium for your spouse and children is more than 8.39% of your household income in 2024, their coverage might be considered unaffordable.

  • Machinists Union at Textron, owner of Cessna, votes to strike

    > WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) — Machinists union members assembled at Park City Arena on Saturday, where they rejected the final contract offer from Textron Aviation. > KSN has learned that union members voted against the final contract, and 81% of union members voted to strike.

Wifi network extenders and ISP provided mesh-ready routers

I just fought getting a 3rd party range extender working and wanted to share what I learned.

    Equipment:

Macard re1200 range extender and Gigaspire blast u4 GS2028E router

After setup of the Macard extender, all 3 lights were solid green meaning that it connected and authenticated to the router. However, devices connected (wirelessly) to the macard could not access the internet.

What I found that fixed it was I had to enable the "ARP spoofing" security flag in the Gigaspire's settings. The initial user ID and password are printed on the label on the back of the router so use that to log in.

  • They charge to 80% quickly so I think anyone staying longer than about 25 minutes probably found something to do nearby such as eat at a restaurant or do some shopping. I think most people that own EVs do most of their charging at home so the only time they use chargers is on long trips and they plan their charging stop(s) to be when they’d already be needing to pee, stretch their legs, and maybe eat a quick meal.

  • Nebraska senator invokes colleague's name while reading a rape scene from a memoir
  • Finally a headline that doesn’t bury the lede. Local news outlets have been using headlines that suggest the concern is his reading of profanity and not that he substituted a colleague’s name into a story about rape.

  • Half of recent US inflation due to high corporate profits, report finds
  • Edit: per other commenters, the lemmy_world community isn’t very active. Looks like [email protected] is a better bet.

Note that for some reason when I subbed to that one I couldn’t see any posts but after a few hours I started to see any newly posted content. I’m guessing that has something to do with how kbin and Lemmy integrate. So if you don’t see any post when adding it just subscribe anyway and then wait a bit

Tip: If you are looking for global news without as much US content try out: [email protected]

Don't let the name put you off. It is a real news community.

  • Feeling the lack of moderation now Reddit?
  • A key thing about the API is that moderating gets harder when the apps that moderators use to streamline/facilitate their work suddenly stopped working. Those apps relied on the Reddit API. These were created by and for the moderator community out of necessity.

Moderators had asked Reddit for tools and when Reddit didn’t provide they built their own. Then Reddit switched off the API without offering replacement tools.

That’s likely the primary reason that Reddit’s mods left and its content took a nosedive.
