If I understand that correctly, Lemmy instances cache other instances' posts and whole communities in order for federation to work, so even federating with such servers is pretty risky as it may technically count as distribution of child porn
Do you like the direction the series goes in? From ATB and power fantasy to the action combat and darker setting
Oh, that's actually hilarious! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2HbIHVoTY2M I wonder if it's enough to be fit into TAS category.
That was really weird to see the propagandists like Solovyov, which had PWC Wagner ads and their enlistment hotline numbers plastered all over his own TV channel, turn back on Prigozhin so quickly. I bet Solovyov, Skabeeva, Simonyan, and other hate criminals would be the most pro-Ukrainian and pacifist Russian speakers the moment Putin leaves/dies. Not that anyone would believe them.
Interview with Falcom's CEO, Toshihiro Kondo, on Trails into Reverie, Trails series in the West, and future plans
Also answers our dumbest questions
Kondo says that Trails' success in the West wasn't expected ten years ago and tells about how Falcom managed to handle 50-ish playable characters in Trails into Reverie in terms of both gameplay (a dungeon for leveling, and a feature to automatically equip quartz) and story (by introducting three story lines with the ability to instantly swap between them at any time).
Also he teases Ys X and a project in the works which is neither Trails not Ys. (Judging by recent Twitter rumors, it might be a new Tokyo Xanadu)
Kondo tends to give a series of pretty similar interviews to English gaming media, so you can basically read one of them and skip the rest.
Persona 3 Remake screenshots, new sprites and gameplay trailer
Hear the new English voice cast for the first time.

There is also a Twitter thread where older and newer sprites are compared.
I prefer the older ones, but that may just be out of habit.
I don't know much about achievements in FF X but I've heard of that that meme challenge to dodge 200 lightning bolts in a row. Have you done it already?
I returned to Atelier Escha & Logy recently and have been having fun from seeing all these bizarre and expensive-looking costumes on characters. As if the guys and gals just were going home from a cosplay event and then suddenly went into the nearest forest to loot everything they could find.
I wish the game was a little bit harder, though. Not as hard as Totori in terms of time limits, but in the combat sense. You just breeze through everything without the bombs or healing items.
Discussion: What have you been playing recently?
JRPGs tend to be long enough, so every session is a time investment for a game which is enjoyable or at least has some potential. Or you're just persistent enough.
Anyway, do you have anything to say about your current game or the ones staying in your backlog? Something you like, having mixed feelings about, strongly criticize? Your current progress?
It doesn't have to be a JRPG or even of Japanese origin, just anything reasonably related.

I haven't played their previous game, Touhou Scarlet Curiosity, but am still pretty hyped up as a Touhou fan! This fangame looks pretty promising and reminds me of older Ys games (like Origins and Felghana) a bit.
Bug: "null" in subscription menu
Sorry for having no detailed steps to reproduce, but here is a possible situatuon it could happen in.
I have two accounts, on vlemmy.net and lemmy.world. The first one has some subscription and the second one is new without any. Probably that's why it's "null" here?

The Legend of Heroes: Trails into Reverie Review
The Legend of Heroes: Trails into Reverie finally marks the conclusion of western Zemuria's continent-spanning story. Everything once again converges on Crossbell for a celebration of the series so far.
Seems like the review embargo got lifted a week before the release and we have first reviews and gameplay videos of Trails into Reverie.
This is the epilogue game for both Trails Zero/Azure and Trails of Cold Steel arcs, so don't spoil yourself too much. Perhaps having no context reduces the spoiler effect, but it also may leave you confused with the plot.
Would you like to read a short guide on which Trails game to start with? Or maybe I can collect links to existing guides?

UPD:
Thank you for contributing to what will become "best practices" for any new instance when the surge of new users from Reddit (as well as spambots) subsides and the situation becomes less chaotic. I hope other instances which blocked yours over the spambots reconsider their decision.
The competitive 100OJ scene is a strange thing given how random this game is and how much your results are dependent on dice rolls, warp panel destinations and other random effects. You get many hilarious situations like rolling four zeroes or getting seagull'd in your face, but if you play it for wins, this can be pretty frustrating.
On the other side, this game is pretty chill and fun, has large userbase and doesn't require much clicks or reaction! So it's perfect for relaxing with friends in a voice chat on a hard day's night.
Steam Next Fest mini-review: Hazuki Dies: She Has No Name
Trash tier girl Hazuki attempts to reach her dreams of becoming a doctor, but accidentally joins a band of thugs. Can she fight and survive this new life of chaos? Learn to overcome your fears of exploding everyday and be a healer on the offensive in this cute and funny tactical RPG!
ahem
Meet the "trash-tier girl" Hazuki and witness her adventures as she starts her medical carreer in the most hilariously braindead way possible
Remember the themes of mortality in Persona 3, where death was depicted as a tragic yet inevitable phenomen, which every living person should come to terms with? Well, make it as absurd as possible and you get Hazuki Dies. This game is about an anime girl trying to survive in a world where everyone dies by exploding tacos, or getting mugged by a thuggish "promoter" sent by a fast food chain run by psychopats, or by getting bit by a mutant rat in sewers... And she is also trying to pay her tution bills by working in such an "explosiove" taco joint. What could possibly go wrong?
Through a series of insane events, Hazuki has to save her abusive boss which has only two days to live (according to a WebMD user medical practitioneer called John Smith). For that, she has to learn some healing magic and, more importantly, become stronger herself, because she is so frail she can't survive even a single hit.
!bonk
As such, the battle system here is more like a puzzle than a standard turn-based mechanic. You can move around or perform an attack, but each action takes some ticks on the timeline. When the enemy's delay value become 0, it's their turn. Your objective is to avoid getting closer to enemies and snipe them as effectively as possible through a rhythm-based QTE - because if you fail to one-shot them or keep the distance, you get the bonk. What a harsh world we live in.
I actually like this kind of dark humor, so I found myself giggling at the every "WOW YOU DIED" screen or Hazuki's stupidly cute remark. Also, by the description above or anime graphics you might think this game is a typical Japanese kusoge, but it's rather an American shitpost - the devs are from Guam and the amount of jokes about the American healthcare is as huge as the cost of ambulance.
!ambulance is just a glorified taxi
As you can see, I'm pretty hyped for the release. Also, the music here slaps.

Steam Next Fest mini-review: Alterium Shift
Embark on a journey through the living world of Alteria and experience its dynamic quests, unique turn-based combat, and choice-driven storylines. With three branching narratives and unforgettable characters, Alterium Shift is a retro-inspired JRPG that offers a new adventure with every playthrough.
This is the most "classic" Japanese RPG I have played during the fest. You get to choose one of three characters: a stern and passionate for her combat training spear-lady Pyra, a bit shy and timid archer Atlas, and a prideful and arrogant elemental master Sage. The battle system is the standard turn-based one and the characters are exactly what it says on the thin: Pyra is a pyr-o melee tank, Atlas' forte is agility and evasion rate and Sage's spell set is pretty versatile.
Albeit different in details, all their stories come to the same progression: prepair for the final combat exam, investigate the situation with dangerous monsters near the town, go on a special mission with their mentor, and then things go wrong. A single story takes roughly 2 hours.
!Catching and taking chicken to a coop
This game is made by two persons, Mottzy and Drass_Ray, and I see this is a labor of love. The art style is gorgeous and reminds of Octopath Traveler, combining pixel art character sprites with 3D assets with pixel-art textures. Despite the simplicity of the main story, the writing is solid and there are first drafts of actual lore available. There are no puzzles yet, but some extra mechanics, like shooting mechanisms with a bow, add some variety to the usual map traversal routine. Overall, the game is pretty solid and it's nice to see what small teams of developers are capable of (recall Chained Echoes, which has almost entirely been made by a single person!)
!Trying to shoot a lever to trigger a mechanism
Still, there are things to be addressed. The UI design lacks character, it's just "choose an option from blue-coloured menus like it's FF6". And the game is pretty buggy, sometimes triggering wrong dialogues and mixing up your save slots. Deleting save files before staring a new campaign is advised. I hope these issues are patched soon, and the game becomes even more likable.

Well, this answer is basically what I was looking for. So piracy is frowned upon in general public and shouldn't be discussed outside people "in the loop", but some mild elements like account sharing are acceptable. Thanks.
Nice to see a fellow Trails enjoyer! I am still yet to play Trails to Azure, but have already finished Zero and Cold Steel II.
I haven't played any JRPGs in June, but was pretty satisfied with Chained Echoes last month. It's shocking how one person (well, almost) could make such a polished game.
Just sharing some relaxing JRPG music I really like

Atelier series is pretty relaxing in terms of both story and BGM, and uses flute and acoustic guitar pretty often, which hits the spot if you've finished working for today and not in the epic mood.

I also like how music contributes to the atmosphere of .hack//G.U., which may have aged poorly as a game series, but it has the fantastic setting of what science-fiction writers from 90s imagined online worlds to be in 2017. The music here is as slow and sedate as the flow of time in "The World" itself.

(TODO: fill this ASAP!)
Updates 06/22: added games from Nintendo Direct as well as Eternights
06/27: clarified release date of CRYMACHINA and Ys X: Nordics
If you prefer some story-heavy games, you can try Eastward. It has gorgeous art style and controls and UI are a great fit for handheld devices such as Deck and Switch. It takes ~15% battery a hour and can be completed in 10 to 15 hours.
If you're fine with longer games which will take 45-70 hours total, try some 2D JRPGs like Trails in the Sky FC (which also has nice touch input in menus!), Trails from Zero and Chained Echoes. All tree aren't battery-heavy at all.
