This will serve as a backup community for usenet invites. I will leave posting enabled, but if it gets out of hand I will shut them off until we get better moderation tools in place.

  • Hello Reddit!

It's been a while since I've made a post! I'm the top moderator of r/bookclub and have been helping moderate this community for 13 years now.

I want to start this post off by extending my deepest gratitude to the moderators of both past and current. Every one of them have provided time in helping shape the community you know and love. None of this would have been possible without their time and effort.

I've had a lot of time to reflect on why I came to reddit, why I'm here now, and why I'll be leaving reddit and stepping down as mod today.

I am still on reddit because I can follow my hobbies! Like reading books, programming, video games, and other things. By taking away the tools (Apollo) that I use to browse reddit, I simply won't be here as much. In truth, it's been a while since I have taken a moderation action which means it was time anyways. I mostly continue to mod here to make sure the community has continuity. Someone to reach out to if the other mods stop participating or go rogue.

I'll be leaving you in good hands! /u/inclinedtothelie has agreed to remain as top moderator and will continue with the book club. The current mod team are the real heart and soul that has kept the book club running all these years, so nothing will change.

It's been awesome participating with everyone here. Thank you for all the good times.

As Jon Snow would put it "My watch is ended."

    r/usenet Wiki Backup
  • I don't think it's stupid! I purchased http://usenetwiki.org/ as well so we can have a general location for the community. It's not quite ready yet. I'm still in touch with PearsonFlyer and we will make sure the docs are always available going forward.

I'll also upload to GitLab as another source and make a post here once complete. Consider the docs as MIT licensed.
