Australia wants to force cats to stay inside or give them a curfew because they are murdering so many other animals they are a threat to the country's biodiversity
  • I'm one of those dickhead cat owners who seemingly can't keep their cat inside. We adopted our cat when he was 3 after spending a lot of time on the street, and ever since taking him in, he'd constantly howl to be let outside. We tried a few methods like an outdoor cat run, but nothing seemed to work.

We've got a GPS collar (and bell) on him and he seems to just stay super local, like within 100 metres of our house.

We've started to gradually transition him inside more but it's tough. We know it's a problem, but really need help getting him to accept inside life.

  • The Chats – Smoko (2018)
  • Haha, these guys are bloody great. I visited Nambour recently (where I believe these guys are from) and I got cool quirky vibes from the town, kind of not surprised they grew up there haha.

  • Long-lasting everyday backpack recommendations
  • I think this is over your budget once converted, but I love this backpack (https://bellroy.com/products/classic-backpack-plus?color=slate&material=ribba_weave).

I use it a few times a week, and had it for over 4 years now, and it's still in great condition. Really well crafted for durability. Zipper, tags, handle etc still in excellent condition.

Fits my 16inch MBP nicely, as well as cables, headphones, jacket, water bottle and a bit of space to spare. Has a quite a few little compartments which are really handy for things like keys.

It doesn't have side pockets for a water bottle which is a downer, but it ticked every other box for me.

Feels comfortable to wear, breathes well - given how it's performed so far, I feel like it'll be around for years to come. Happily recommend!

  • Lemmings of Lemmy, what is the scariest situation in the outdoors that you have experienced?
  • I went 4WDing in sand dunes in the United Arab Emirates with a bunch of American expats.

On one of the dunes I was on the outside of the car standing on the foot treads holding on through an open window. Part way up the dune the car started to tip, so I jumped away and luckily missed getting squashed when the car rolled.

It was a really stupid thing to do, and I got really lucky. Good lesson for me to have now I have kids - I have a more healthy respect for risk.

  • Lemmy, what are your "missed flight" stories?
  • Travelling from Austria to Croatia - got to the airport at 8pm for our 11 o'clock flight. Initially wasn't concerned when our flight wasn't showing on the boards. Became increasingly worried as time went on.

Spoke to the desk and were told the only flight to Croatia was 11AM that day... (Not 11pm)

Spent the night sleeping in the airport while waiting to check in to a airport hotel the next day as the next available flight to Croatia was 2 days after our original flight.

Used my bag as a pillow and accidentally broke some souvenirs we had bought. Cost us an extra $500 each in total for new flights and accomm as we had no travel insurance.

Sorry to hear you missed your flight - hope your experience isn't too rough!

  • Best way to financially support Lemmy?

I can see there's a few different ways to donate etc. and was curious if there were any recommendations?

Wanting to throw some support their way with the influx of Reddit refugees likely on the way (of which I'm one)
