Saturday SOTD Thread - June 17, 2023
  • At this point I just live with it. Slowly trying to get better at it, but the last time I actually got it done well I ended up with a few ingrown hairs. So for now I'm just leaving it not quite as smooth.

  • 2023.06.17 SOTN:

    • Prep: Neutrogena Hydro Boost Cleanser

    • Brush: AKA Brushworks Amethyst Watchman with 26mm AP Shave Co G5C

    • Razor: Henson AL13(+++)

    • Blade: Gillette Perma-Sharp (3)

    • Lather: Seaforth! Sea Ice Lime

    • Post Shave: Stirling Mentholated Unscented Witch Hazel and Aloe, Seaforth! Sea Ice Lime Aftershave Splash, Neutrogena Hydro Boost Gel-Cream Extra-Dry

I postponed shaving a couple of days because my new Henson arrived today. I've been using the mild (+) version for about 5 months or so (around 50 shaves), so I decided to buy the aggressive (+++) model to try out. Have to say, my initial impressions are that I enjoy it more than the mild version. I used SIL because I know it is a great lather and would make it easy to judge the shave based off of the razor. I still have some problem areas on my jawline, but that's always been the case. This was one of the smoothest shaves on my neck I've had, so that alone is a big point in favor for the aggressive. Time will tell, obviously, but as it stands right now the mild will probably be going to the bazaar.

Edit for Lemmy: would've posted this from kbin, but for some reason the federation isn't quite synced right. Oh well.

  • I recently stopped using alum and I think my skin is better for it. I do witch hazel and aloe (currently using Stirling's mentholed version), then aftershave (either splash or balm), followed by Neutrogena hydro boost gel cream extra dry. The Neutrogena is phenomenal after a shave.

I know it's a little redundant to use the witch hazel then the aftershave since most have those ingredients, but I like using it.

  • This is what I tend to do, but mostly because I don't like the thought of getting my tubs all messy. I know it's a stupid reason, but it's my stupid reason.

I will just load my Stirling samples in the dollar tree tins, though. Really great for travel too.

  • You can’t go wrong with Shire 2 (IMHO)

I really wanted to like Shire 2, but it is just too tobacco-y for me. I grabbed a sample of both the EdP and the soap and only used them once. C'est la vie.

  • First Lemmy SOTD!:

    2023.06.12 SOTN:

    • Pre-Shave: Neutrogena Hydro Boost Cleanser
    • Brush: AKA Brushworks w/ APShaveCo 26mm G5C
    • Razor: Henson AL13 (+)
    • Blade: Gillette Perma-Sharp (2)
    • Lather: Stirling Glacial Satsuma
    • Post shave: Stirling Mentholated Unscented Witch Hazel and Aloe, Stirling Glacial Satsuma Aftershave Splash, Neutrogena Hydro Boost Gel-Cream Extra-Dry

First lemmy shave! Woot! The shave was really nice. Glacial Satsuma is a fantastic soap. Just a fantastic warm citrus smell and the great Stirling quality. The perma-sharps do a fantastic job in the Henson. I think I'm going to buy an aggressive AL13 during the next Maggard sale to see the difference.
