I can hear this place, and it is loud.

Gales screaming. Leaves rustling. The cold colliding with my nose.

The Techniques - Classics (1995)

The Techniques - Classics (1995)

If you’re from Jamaica, you might know this group. But if you’re not—The Techniques are one of the most influential Jamaican groups ever, and one which defined the sound of rock steady.

So big, each individual member later went on to change popular music as we know it. Slim Smith, the lead singer, was—until his untimely death at 23—one of the most beloved singers in Jamaica. Winston Riley was a producer who introduced the world to Buju Banton, Cutty Ranks, and Sister Nancy—and made The Slackest by General Echo. Dave Barker was the Dave in Dave and Ansell Collins. And Frederick Waite helped form Musical Youth, with some of his children as members.

This is basically a compilation that came out in 1995. No album was made by them because The Techniques were a singles group.

An incredible listen, and shaped the sound of popular music to come.

Taking a moment.

Taking a moment.

It’s important every now and then to take in the view, be present in the moment, let the seconds pass as you observe the calm

and remember— you are here.

Train set.

Train set.

I remember playing this when I was a child. Glad to see that it’s still being made. Simple, but good times.

A roof.

A roof.

And the way that crow was perched there, deep in though right next to the chimney—underneath the clouds.

Dead bloom.

Dead bloom.

I’m just surprised this flower is still here in the dead of winter even though its petals have shrivelled up.

We’ve seen better days.

Overripe banana I found at a grocery store about to be put out to pasture. This is the end.

Where you’re tired and tipsy, just want to get home, and all the lights are blaring by at you.

A seed.

It moved with the wind several feet from its tree. Never got a chance to take root and grow.

Three windows.

It was a dark room. Hiding there felt so nice on a chilly day.

I came to this place for a mental cleanse. And I emerged with a new drive.

Parking lot.

This is a blank spot that exists. Sometimes it stores cars. But mostly it doesn’t.

I spotted this sprouting leaves peeking from behind a fence.

At a park near new condos.

This is over near the Fraser River, right in Richmond, BC, Canada. Lots of rabbits live here and they’re voracious.

Cœur de Pirate - En Cas de Tempête, Ce Jardin Sera Fermé (2018)

Her voice does something to me, tickles me in the back of my brain. Very expressive. Just an incredible album.

Feeding pigeons at a strip mall

Feeding pigeons at a strip mall.

Not a good idea because it attracts rodents. But some people can’t help themselves, I guess. Plus, some people really love pigeons.
