And then comes the wonderful realm of the BSDs and the OpenSolaris derivatives
  • From my experience with people that are very pro Android vs the pro iOS crowd, it’s just that they’re trying to justify their own choice by uplifting the OS they chose and sometimes tend to focus only on the negatives of the other OS. The same can be said for the various desktop OS crowds.

I’ve used both Android and iOS, as well as Windows and MacOS (and intend to try Linux at some point) over the years and I never thought one was generally better than the other. All these OSs have different target users and that’s ok. Just because you’re not the target user for OS A, doesn’t mean that OS B is objectively the best OS for everyone. It’s just the best OS for you. And why people feel the need to bash other people’s choices or even make fun of them for it is beyond me.

  • These days kids need the latest iPhone. When i was a kid, all i wanted was this pen!
  • I saw them in a store recently and couldn’t resist buying it for that very reason. Is it actually useful or nice to write with? No. Do I regret buying it? Hell no.

  • Weird ask... What about dark web content?
  • If you wouldn’t mind, what makes you come back to that kind of content? I went to eyeblech once, out of some kind of morbid curiosity (and not really knowing what it was), but one video in particular is now permanently etched onto my retinas and I really wish I could unsee it. I’ve never been back there. A similar video that probably came from watchpeopledie is also still living in my brain. Also wish I could forget that one.

So yeah, I sort of understand listening to (true) horror stories, true crime and all that, but I struggle to understand why you’d want to watch someone die as a pastime. Would love to hear your perspective on this.

And to answer your question: yes, while I would not want to see that kind of content, it’ll probably get posted anyway and then it’d be better if it were hosted somewhere in a controlled manner on a special instance or something like that, so random people don’t accidentally bump into it. That particular instance should expect that other instances will defederate from them however. If only to make sure that the mods and admins don’t manually have to weed that out of their own instances.

  • Yeah, no kidding :’) Guess we have to wait for spez to sprinkle golden wrappers across the platform to find users to pick the new CEO from

  • How do you find new artists?

    Hi!

I’m just wondering how you guys find your artists. Do you have one artist that does all your tats, or are you a bit of a walking catalog for various artists?

The reason I’m asking is that I currently use instagram to find and keep track of artists, but I really don’t like the app all that much. Googling local shops also doesn’t always give me good results.

If you know of any good alternative methods other than wandering around a city and walking into random shops, let me know! :)

  • You’re not wrong. I work for a company that really tries to make new employees feel like they’re part of a “family”. The longer you work there, the more you become immune to their bullshit though. Mostly because the low-level employees get treated worse than those working at headquarters. Luckily it’s only a parttime job and I’ll be leaving as soon as I’m done with my masters.

  • Life after mainstream social media
  • Congrats on getting off of social media! Glad to hear you like it here :)

I actually agree with you. The sole reason I still have instagram is so I can find and keep track of tattoo artists. I was never very active on twitter, will probably delete Facebook soon, and once tiktok automatically logged me out I never logged back in. Being on facebook generally just makes me angry while tiktok drains away whatever self-esteem I have left. Instagram is just eh.

Actually, I like that upvotes don’t add to a total on your account as with karma on reddit. And yes, likely because of its smaller size, conversation on Lemmy feels a lot more pleasant. I really like it here too :)

  • A little off-topic, but who calls their employees 'snoos'? Am I missing some context here?

  • The green bubble problem is about to get even worse (Apple/Android)
  • The OS wars have always bugged me a little. On one hand you have iOS users acting all high and mighty and considering anything other than iPhone less, on the other there’s some snobby Android users that seem to think everyone that uses an iPhone is an idiot. Guess we can’t help but engage in us-vs-them thinking sometimes. Excluding people based on the tech they use makes absolutely zero sense to me though.

I’ve used both iOS/MacOS and Android/Windows over the years and I can’t really say that one is inherently better than the other. Each platform excels in a different use case however and has different USPs.

Anywho, just my two cents. Cheers!

  • Yep, this is also a common feature for phones for seniors.

  • Yeah, this is a bit of an overcorrection, but if it increases interest in smaller phones, I'm all for it. Really not looking forward to the moment I have to replace my 12 mini

  • Why are communities on Lemmy.ml more full compared to the same on a different Lemmy instance?
  • Yep. For me it also matters whether I'm using my beehive account or my feddit.nl (much smaller instance) account. Guess it's just part of the federated part, but it's a bit annoying all the same

  • Thank you for sharing :)

I guess it's easy to get sucked in the whole "I'm anonymous so I can do what I want without repercussions" thing and just become downright nasty towards people you don't agree with (for some people at least). Ironically, at the same time you'll quickly be downvoted into oblivion if your opinion is a little controversial. I'm sorry to hear you (and the stranger they thought was you for that matter) were on the receiving end of it. It's something I certainly won't miss from some subs...

But hey, I'm a pacifist by nature and prefer knowing why people think things rather than just telling them their opinions are wrong. So what do I know :')

  • Why are communities on Lemmy.ml more full compared to the same on a different Lemmy instance?
  • Would you mind elaborating on this a bit or linking to documentation that explains this in more detail? It seems that unless I visit any thread on its own instance, I'm not getting the actual number of upvotes and/or comments. Waiting and checking back doesn't seem to solve it (double checked on a post I checked about 4 hours ago, still can't see the full thing), so maybe it helps if I know what's going on exactly.

  • I had never even heard about the Boston Bombings till now (or I don't remember it, not an American), but damn, that whole situation got all kinds of messed up. I can understand wanting the perpetrators being brought to justice, but slandering random people who bear a minor resemblance to a suspect makes no sense to me.

Out of curiosity, how should the admins have reacted the witch-hunts in your opinion? I've never really used the old frontpage or r/popular so I'm not very familiar with how their usage would be affected tbh.
