They’re always active with their own mastodon server & proving (no strings attached) funds for the development (along with some other ActivityPub projects if I’m not mistaken).
Could not agree more!
Hey that's so cool!
There's so many damrak & canal posts flooding the sub now, that this should work!
Actually, come to think of it, most are from you in the first place :D
Oddly enough that trick didn't work on Fedia.io (Kbin server), where [email protected] works....
Is there a similar trick for Kbin?
Thank you so much! That worked perfectly - I've done it now on a couple of Lemmy servers, so it'll show up there by default now.
Only Lemmy.ml didn't work, but that's ok!
How to see by Kbin magazine from Lemmy? Others work!
So, I'm very confused! I've got 2 questions:
https://lemmy.world/c/[email protected] works https://lemmy.world/c/[email protected] works but https://lemmy.world/c/[email protected] doesn't! (Here's the direct Kbin link: https://kbin.social/m/Amsterdam )
Why could that be? What settings would I need to change to make my magazine show up? Is the magazine not federated for some reason? Is it because it has a capital letter & kbin is case sensitive?
The main reason for asking - aside from showing up across the Fediverse - is that currently there are lots of clients out for Lemmy's API, and I want to use an app to browse Kbin/Lemmy, so that's why I'm signing in with Lemmy, but want to browse my Kbin 'Magazine'.
On a related note: can I add a moderator for a Kbin magazine if their user profile is from another (Kbin/Lemmy) server? It would really help!
@sheawoodrow
ahh yes, I’d love that too.
Right now it’s username > profile > subscribed which are too many clicks (especially on mobile).
How I’ve approach it is to use the built in developer tools to “inspect” an element in Kbin & then use the Appearance panel in the Moderation Panel of your community to change it.
The linked kbinStyles community gives a good idea of the format involved.
@sheawoodrow That's the one of the few things it has right now :)
Just the = burger menu next to you user name at the top right of the screen.
Yikes you're at -51 !
Yep, wij de Mods van /r/Amsterdam zijn nu de overstap aan het maken: https://kbin.social/m/Amsterdam
Haha bless your heart! Thank you!
It was just a test post, to work out if we liked Lemmy or Kbin better. It's the photo of the Damrak we always got in the old sub!
Good to have you on board! Us at /r/Amsterdam are also dipping our toes into the Reddit-like Fediverse.
A few things we’ve noticed:
- The cloud flare thing on Kbin currently sucks. It eats comments.
- We’re wondering how users will deal with multiple communities with the same name (across instances). Will the Lemmy.ml or the Lemmy.World or the Kbin.social “CSPro” be the default?
We’re looking at redirects/links to stitch it together a bit. - Kbin seems a bit more refined on the UI side currently, even if the naming (‘Magazines’) is confusing currently.
It Mark’s the return of CSS styling, and happily can build on a very modern & solid CSS foundation unlike Old.Reddit. - Lemmy is the only one with (iOS) apps at the moment (Mlem) but it’s still very basic at the moment. Like with Mastodon, I expect you this to change rapidly, given the extra time a bunch of devs will soon have + the ones who’ve just gotten very good at Fediverse coding through Mastodon are out there.
- Moderation tools are a bit mystery still. Need to get some traffic first to see how it will evolve!

Q&A Thread - Your Question Goes Here - Especially Tourists and New Residents
This is the place for anyone to ask questions about Amsterdam. If you are a tourist visiting Amsterdam, you are moving to or recently arrived in Amsterdam, or you just have a basic question about life in Amsterdam and want some advice, this is the place to post your question.
READ THE WIKI FIRST.
The people answering questions are locals who want to share the city they love with visitors, but only with people who make an effort. Read at least the Essential Tourist Information in our world-famous wiki before you ask a question. Otherwise, you may be told to go back and read it. The wiki is written by us, and updated when relevant. If the entries are old it's because nothing has changed.
HOTELS ARE EXPENSIVE AND WE DON'T HAVE GOOD ADVICE ON THEM.
Because we live here, we don't know what the best hotels are. Amsterdam is one of the most touristed cities in the world and has the highest hotel prices in Europe. There really isn't a secret "cheap" solution.
TOURISTS CAN PURCHASE MARIJUANA, DESPITE WHAT YOU READ IN FOREIGN PRESS.
Understand that the coffeeshops are just a tiny part of Amsterdam, so posts that treat Amsterdam like it's the Las Vegas of drugs sometimes get a negative response. We're happy to give you advice about coffeeshops and to discuss drug policy. The experts are our friends at /r/AmsterdamEnts, ask them the big questions.
WE DON'T HELP WITH ILLEGAL STUFF AND WILL BAN YOU FOR ASKING.
We will not help you with things that are clearly illegal. Coffeeshops caught selling to minors get shut down and everyone loses their jobs. Authorities check for people smuggling marijuana out of the country. Hard drugs are illegal and so is asking for or selling them on Reddit.
WE DON'T ALLOW TICKET SALES OR TRADING.
We do not allow selling, buying, or trading tickets here due to the high rate of fraud. You should do everything on ticketswap.nl. We're aware that is difficult to get tickets to Anne Frank, van Gogh, etc. We have no solutions for you, sorry.
DOE AARDIG.
There is Dutch directness and there is rudeness. The people coming here don't know how we do things, and are usually well-meaning people who just want to enjoy the city we love. Be kind to them. For the tourists and new residents, please remember that we are not Google; respect our time by doing some basic research first and then asking your questions like you're speaking to a real human who is volunteering to speak to you.
