YSK: Browsing "ALL" at work might get you pulled into an office, even with NSFW off.
  • The reason I used to use my work PC for online purchases/personal finances because the network at my employer was much more secure than my home network. But it was a smaller company back then, now that we're "corporate" (partnered a larger entity) I don't.

  • Build a motorcycle navigation rig for under $300
  • I picked up a used Garmin drivesmart 65 that I 3D printed a mount for. One of the accessories for it is a backup camera, and since my sideview mirrors see more of my shoulder than they should, it might make a interesting rear view mirror cam.

  • What is something really stupid you purchased that turned out far better than expected?
  • I've been using the Hario Skerton daily for 7 years. 24 bucks on Amazon rn.

  • Who needs a dining room 🥳
  • I've used the dining room table as a workbench for many a Z project, from soldering broken connections on the digital dash to redoing the panel bonding between the hood skin and the support frame. Just noticed, that i had almost the exact tiled farmhouse style dining set too, lol.

That engine stand really ties the room together tho 🤣

  • Beyond PLA and ABS?
  • I'm on my second spool of ASA and love it. It did require me to upgrade to a enclosure and PEI print bed.

  • Do you ride with a camera?
  • On the bike I have an INNOVV K3 front and rear camera system, On my Shoei RF-1400 helmet, I have a chin mounted Runcam Thumb pro powered by a power bank via a USB cable that runs into my jacket. I'm relatively new to getting back on a motorcycle, but I've had dashcams in my cars for years and have learned firsthand how they can be a valuable asset.

  • Flexible filament that can be used with a bowden extruder?
  • I'm going to add, that if you cannot print the gasket, maybe you can print a jig that will make the gasket cutting more accurate. I did something similar with a carpet cleaner where the waste tank gasket was leaking. I printed a jig to allow a hobby knife to trace an outline and not wander.

  • YSK: Today's National Typewriter Day (June 23rd)
  • I will dust off my two Underwood #5's in celebration!

  • Are you guys still using your air fryers?
  • We now have a Instant Pot Vortex 6 Quart Air Fryer that gets used quite a bit, mornings for toast and lunch prep and heavily on Sundays for meal prep. It replaced our Ninja Foodi Air Fryer Oven which just got donated because it was collecting dust. That was totally capable of baking, but slower and consumed a lot of counter space, despite rotating up and out of the way. It was fantastic for frozen pizza, but since dietary changes have eliminated those, the basket style is more than capable for chicken and veggies, easier to clean and store too.

  • What's been in your playlists for the last week.
  • Giving them a listen now. Personally I've been revisiting a lot of Clan of XYMOX since seeing them in Portland last week. Also Cloud of Ravens, which opened for them and Sisters of Mercy when they were here. Lets see...Actors, Bellwether Syndicate, IAMX, Diorama and whatever the spotify algorithm generates. I've largely been away from exploring the scene for a few decades and just recently am rediscovering what is out there.

  • Old 3D printers
  • I've got one of these sitting on the shelf since i got my CR10S PRO V2. Nothing at all wrong with it either, it's just noisy. I keep it around mostly because it's direct drive.

  • Best benchy I ever printed, and it's ASA with zero tuning
  • I have a CR-10S Pro V2 and like you, just threw a spool of polymaker ASA on it, tweaked the stock profile with turning off the fan, setting retraction to 4mm, first layer nozzle/bed temp at 265 then 150, 105 then 90 and lowering the Z height on the printer by like 0.04mm for a good first layer adhesion/squish.

Before playing with anything but the retraction, my benchy would warp and detach at 0.2", right at the deck height. After turning off the fan, like you, i got an almost perfect benchy.

Feeling emboldened i jumped right into attempting a 12hr print of a car grill emblem, 0.16mm layer height that measured 3.5"x 9.5" x .675" and it would warp at about 2/3's of the way through, even with a brim. The quality looked amazing up until the detach/warp. It happened at the same spot each time, a interior corner. I tried glue stick...nope, Aquanet hairspray was better, but the print still detached/warped each time in the same spot. It failed 4 times in all.

Last night I tried again, same print settings but with the addition of two things: a Comgrow tent enclosure (inside temp stabilized at ~40c) and a PEI steel plate bed from Creality.

This time it came out perfect, no warping! Gonna try the other half now.

If you get it dialed in, you should definitely reprint your fan shroud in ASA.

edit: I just double checked my PETG fan shroud and found that it melted, lol.

  • Motorizing a manual coffee maker
  • I've been tempted to do the same thing for years with my Hario Skerton and a Makita 12v driver drill. It's 400ish cranks every morning. I would imagine a finer grind with an espresso bean would take you much longer. As it is, the morning grind is part of my routine and a much as automating the process, having my drill shared between the garage and the kitchen would introduce it's own issues.

  • What are y'all's favorite exotic filaments?
  • Now that's a fantastic budget idea, thank you. I may try exactly that on my smaller printer. I have my CR10 in a comgrow enclosure now and it's currently 7.5hrs into a 12hr print and it seems to be adhering better to the new PEI bed. Fingers crossed.

  • What is an underrated feature to look for when buying a house?
  • Dogs. I'm not an anti dog person, our most recent family dog passed away 5yrs ago and when i left for work, she would howl indoors loud enough for the neighbors to hear. 5 yrs later, i'm getting my due payback. The new neighbors on both sides of me have 3 dogs each that will run to the fence and bark when I go out back and also howl when their owners are away. Several houses down there is a family with a female pitbull that shrieks when she is left in their back yard. a really sweet dog, but has anxiety issues. Normally not an issue, unless it's the summer and all your windows are open.

  • What are y'all's favorite exotic filaments?
  • I dusted off a sealed roll of polymaker natural ASA for my CR10 V2 pro, trying to print parts for my motorcycle and cars that were previously printed in PLA+. So far a few large parts have warped about 2/3rds of the way through. I purchased a PEI magnetic bed and am now using an enclosure. The benchy i printed looks perfect tho. If i can get it dialed in, i think it will be my favorite.

  • Welcome!...<crickets>

Welcome to yet another 300ZX online community fragment. Created not to compete, but to compliment.

With the foundation of Reddit apparently beginning to crack and having myself migrated from Fark, to Digg and then to Reddit, I thought this might be a good time to create a community here. Anyway, we'll see how it goes.
