YouTube intensifies fight against ad blockers showing pop-ups, and users are frustrated | Blocking ad-block users
  • This is a controversial viewpoint on here. You have to be pirating everything and using Linux otherwise you are corporate shill and will be downvoted for having a different viewpoint. Talk about an echo chamber.

I have used YouTube premium for years and years now, it is the best value subscription service I use. I haven’t seen an ad in years, I don’t have to find loopholes and I get to support the creators that produce great content. Also music.

  • Apple AirTags stalking led to ruin and murders, lawsuit says — Dozens join lawsuit alleging Apple AirTags are stalkers’ “weapon of choice.”
  • Glad they were so proactive to have a better solution, the app situation was a load of crap. Looked it up and found the setting on my phone and it’s enabled. It appears my AirTag wouldn’t set it off as i have the iPhone with the tag and therefore it is not considered separated. I’ll turn my iPhone off next time I ride my bike to see if that causes it to detect it.

  • Isn’t it on android you have to download an app and it only works with the app open? Or has that changed? Edit: that has changed, see response below

I have two phones, one android (work) and one personal (iOS). They use different accounts so no connections between them. My android has never gone off, even with my bike that has an AirTag. My iPhone has gone off with a work colleagues AirTag but not the android phone which was in the same pocket the entire time.

  • Every single Onewheel is being recalled after four deaths
  • Loose definition of a recall. Newer models are getting a software update. Older models are told to be thrown in the bin and get $100 credits to buy a new one

For early adopters, however, the CPSC and Future Motion are telling owners to stop using and discard the original Onewheel and Onewheel Plus.

For early adopters, however, owners can receive a “pro-rated credit of $100 to the purchase of a new board,” according to Mudd. The credit will only be issued after owners confirm that they have disposed of the old model.

  • One of the protestors is holding a pro nuclear energy sign. But they are protesting power cables running through their sites, which will still be required with nuclear sites. Seems like a bit of fear mongering from the national party to pretend they care while they oversee farmland get destroyed for mines.

  • Unpatchable AMD Chip Flaw Unlocks Paid Tesla Feature Upgrades
  • Not defending this practise but this is nothing new and has been happening for decades on other cars. It’s typically cheaper to manufacture everything on mass, including the higher features, and just not wire it up in lower end cars. Very common for things like heated car seats, I remember one of my old Mitsubishi had everything in the seat but just didn’t have the heated seat control button and fuse.

Locked by software is a whole new level though.

  • NSW government commits to converting south-west Sydney rail line to metro
  • Talk about a job stretching out and out and out.

I found an article from 2017 that the line was meant to operational by mid 2020. Now they are saying October 2025? The bit that’s taking the longest is the bit where they are using the existing track that isn’t getting replaced? The bit where they are just retrofitting existing stations. Is there something I’m missing here?

Another article from metro themselves in 2018 says that the line will need 3 to 6 months of closures to get the work done. Instead of closing it in one period it will done in a program of shorter closures. And the line is to be operating by 2024.

Now on top of all the closures that have been done to accomodate the 3 to 6 months they said before, they need an entire 12 months extra?

  • Australia’s love of big cars is undoing the benefits of the shift to EVs
  • All fair points. I don’t follow the whole no one should own one as put forward by a lot of people here. There is just a lot of people don’t need one. Know someone who drives a patrol from one side of Melbourne to the other side everyday as a commute to the office, one person no kids with no equipment , and they have another 4WD so there is no excuse there. My environmentalist mate has a land cruiser as that’s how he can explore our beautiful country, and rides a bike to work.

  • A positive repair experience from Bosch

Nicked a hose on my new dishwasher and had to repair it. In the app Bosch gives you the option to buy parts straight from them, with breakout illustrations showing each part to make sure you get the right one. Parts were extremely reasonable and came within 2 days. Could almost build the thing from spare parts! Best repair experience I’ve ever had.

  • Saw an ad on Facebook for a ranger the other day, 2 years old 21k km, description read never been off-road, mainly used to go from home to the office. Was selling to upgrade to the new model.

Also I don’t believe these fancier utes are very suitable for actual work, to much precious body work and paint around the bed of the truck. We have some single cab utes at work, and what gets put on the tray I wouldn’t want to be doing on anything I cared about the looks of. Also the height to get to some of the trays is ridiculous.

PSA: Moonee Ponds Creek Trail under water between Footscray Rd and Dynon Rd
  • Nothing new for that section. Part of the retaining walls have failed and leak water through when the river is high, pumps never keep up and turn off, and the council will continue not to do anything. The detour along the road next to it has been blocked off by wgtp for a while now, the second detour over the bridge over the railway line is blocked. It’s all a bit of a joke.

  • Does anyone have any Hardware store recommendations that aren't Bunnings?
  • If I’m only planing to use once or twice I’ll see if my tool library has.

Otherwise Sydney tools / total tools just have better quality stuff, especially on consumables. Eg multitool bits from Bunnings are a waste of money.
