After Netflix, Disney is cracking down on password sharing
  • I guess it was inevitable when everyone and their dog rolled out a streaming service that eventually they'd have to squeeze subscribers more to stem the losses.

It seems like if the streaming platforms licensed each others exclusives in the same way no music streaming service has much exclusive music, there might be less profit but it might have been more stable for them.

  • Is Lemmy.World going to do anything about community squatting?
  • Is it the android community you’re referring to? As I believe that is run by the same moderators as was on the original subreddit, which is a shame.

I don’t feel like transplanting the exact same leadership / moderator teams as was on Reddit is always the best idea and some element of choice is important.

  • [The Guardian] There is no moral high ground for Reddit as it seeks to capitalise on user data
  • I've been using Kagi for the past two months. Honestly, I'm pretty happy with it and I can't think of any major misses in terms of search accuracy. I think it's very difficult to get out of the mindset that search should be free, but I'm trying to put my money where my mouth is as it were, to try to support adtech free services.

  • Why do you personally prefer using an Android phone?
  • For me, I started out with android back in the 2.3 days. Then custom roms, launchers, rooting was all really fun and exciting. I switched to an iPhone when the X came out after a bad experience with the Pixel 2 XL (QA issues and poor customer service mainly), and I didn't make the switch back until the Pixel 7 came out.

Right now, I'd say I prefer android because the notification system is much better. I have greater control of my homescreen, and more freedom to install software not blessed by either Apple or Google.

If we want this to work out make content do not just lurk
  • Another lurker here, but somehow it feels like it has been a lot easier to post on here compared to reddit. Hopefully Lemmy continues to have good discussion without devolving too much into reddit meme comment chains and the like.

  • Jacob Steinberg: Arsenal keen on signing Kai Havertz with Chelsea set to demand fee of £70m
  • I guess they're hoping a club would be stupid/desperate enough to try to get him now rather than wait until later in the window. Either that or they really don't want to lose him, and hope that they can shift other players far lower in the pecking order to satisfy the FFP requirements.

  • I sympathise on the mental health front. I've had my own struggles for a long while, but today has been a good week relatively speaking like yours. I hope you keep up the good fight, and enjoy the sweaty hell :)
