what if solar systems are synonymous to atoms in that they are the minute building blocks of something greater?
  • See I'm the opposite, the fuckiness at that scale is my greatest argument for their possible existence, accepting that their existence would be in a manner completely alien and unintelligible to me. There's SO MUCH fuckiness that anything is possible.

  • what if solar systems are synonymous to atoms in that they are the minute building blocks of something greater?
  • So what if our universe is the equivalent of those elements that scientists have only been able to create for less than a second?

  • How did Lemmy.world become more popular than Lemmy.ml?
  • Beehaw is also... very particular. From what I can tell they want to encourage and magnify the closed-off, echo-chamber part of reddit.

  • what if solar systems are synonymous to atoms in that they are the minute building blocks of something greater?
  • Prove me wrong, I dare you!

Well, the thing about atoms is that they arrange themselves in patterns to create those larger building blocks you speak of. Solar systems move much too slowly, so that by the time they would have arranged themselves into anything resembling the patterns exhibited by atoms, the heat death of the universe would have occurred.

The resemblance you see is orbit, but the major issue with uniting the orbit of atoms and the orbit of planets under one theorem is the scale of the forces at work. Gravity is many orders of magnitudes weaker than electromagnetic force holding electrons in place (and it needs to be that much stronger because of how much faster electrons move relative to their size than planets).

But now we're getting into string theory.

  • How will we keep Meta out of the fediverse?
  • That's not how meta's going to do it; they'll start their own (with blackjack blah blah) that has better servers, better design, and other stuff real money can buy until theirs is the default. Then when they have the vast majority of users, they'll start throwing their weight around and others will be pressured to comply with the 'standard' they set.

  • How will we keep Meta out of the fediverse?
  • I mean, I'd sell all you fuckers out for a billion dollars. So there's a chance someone sells out somewhere along the line.

  • How will we keep Meta out of the fediverse?
  • Seems simple enough to me.

Meta: Do what we want or we'll defederate you!

    Everyone: Fuck off

    Meta: Surprised pikachu

  • What was the subreddit that represented to you the best example of downspiral of quality? To me it was /r/dataisbeautiful
    1. Stop misusing the 'parodox of tolerance' if you haven't actually studied it. It doesn't mean what 99% of people on reddit/lemmy think it means.

    2. I've seen more people shut down anyone who disagrees with them (both here and on rddit) than I have people 'not uphold the social contract'. Yes, there are trolls, but there are way more people who say 'shut up nazi!' at the first sign of even a slightly different opinion.

  • What was the subreddit that represented to you the best example of downspiral of quality? To me it was /r/dataisbeautiful
  • So 'people who respect other people's opinions' are nazis?

EDIT: The amount of stuff you have to assume, lie about, and make-up is astounding. I pity you. You're making up your own enemy and that's very sad. I hope one day you can have a productive discussion without villifying anyone who dares simply say they have a different opinion than you.

It's clear that you don't even understand the 'paradox of intolerance' that you like to misquote.

  • What was the subreddit that represented to you the best example of downspiral of quality? To me it was /r/dataisbeautiful
  • The entire reason I started using RES was to filter out any comment that had the words "and my axe", "this guy's dead wife", "fun at parties", "poop knife", etc.

  • What was the subreddit that represented to you the best example of downspiral of quality? To me it was /r/dataisbeautiful
  • Everything at reddit devolved into pushing political ideals. That's what happens when nobody can respect that others are allowed to have different opinions.

  • I don’t understand people who say they can’t figure out Lemmy or KBin
  • 99.9% of people just use gmail, and before that 99.9% used hotmail, etc. There's always been 'the one' that effectively everyone is on.

  • What's with all the NordVPN hate?
  • ProtonVPN, one of the most recommended VPNs that I can find, also pushes you toward a 1-2 year contract. Mullvad is probably the only one that doesn't (and they just removed port forwarding).

  • Why do we call ourselves lemmings when lemmons is such a better name?
  • Redditor is a thing though, and most people came from reddit. However, thinking about it, Youtuber and Tiktoker are reserved for the creators, not the users. As for the rest...

    Facebooker

    Whatsapper

    Instagrammer

Yeah I'm fine with fediverse user.

  • Kbin + Lemmy has just ticked over 100k active users
  • Assuming the numbers are accurate, we already hit critical mass for perpetuity of content and activity (around 80k active users) so things should just get better from here.

  • I don’t understand people who say they can’t figure out Lemmy or KBin
  • I mean, there's a reason that Linux is used by less than 3% of the market, and the same will likely be true here. The fediverse is not the answer for over 97% of people, and that's a problem.

  • I don’t understand people who say they can’t figure out Lemmy or KBin
  • The first step is completely different from anything else you've ever done

"Pick an instance to sign up for"

This does not compute. What is an instance? Why do I have to pick? Which one should I pick? Compared to

"Create an account at reddit.com" makes sense and is something everyone has done before.

It doesn't matter how simple the answers to those questions are, the fact that the very first step requires multiple explanations is huge, and will always be a barrier to entry.

  • Should I quit my job?
  • Even if you don't quit now, you have to realize this isn't sustainable. Make a plan for when you need to leave by, and work torwards it. It may be a month, a year, or 5 years. But the fact that you're considering leaving means this ISN'T a dream job.
