With the recent issues of transgender people in sports, why don’t we move some sports over to a weight-class system?
  • Obviously there's technique to it, it wouldn't have survived as a competitive martial art otherwise. But the Japanese watch sumo for cultural reasons rather than because of their passion for the technique. It has a place in modern culture that links Japanese people to their deep-seated traditions. It's like someone uninterested in sport knowing who's playing on a given weekend, so they can comment on it as a neutral topic of discussion while getting their hair cut.

Doesn't mean that it's not a crock of shit. And I'm not saying boxing isn't exactly the same either. Sumo is just more of a traditional practice akin to ritual than it is to actual sport or martial art. But I don't know why I'm bothering to reply, since apparently none of this matters to you because your opening sentence demonstrates you don't know how to structure an argument without alienating your interlocutor.

  • Democracy is a continuum, and we trade individual rights for collective benefits, like making healthcare and education free (and compulsory) for a better society. Americans just didn't read the contract and individuals are now fucked over in favour of the state and its oligarchs. You can disagree with me if you're an anarcho-syndicalist but my comparison relates to current, existing democracies (e.g. Belgium, Australia)

  • Apis mellifera is a much better pollinator for most cultivars produced by agriculture around the world, so it's been introduced into East, South and Southeast Asia too (and it's pretty closely related to Apis cerana anyway, and they get along OK).

Also, you're not accounting for species uniqueness, which is highest in Australia/NZ/PNG, southern Africa and parts of South America. These places also have native bees that are outcompeted and outright attacked by Eurobees.

The truth is complicated, but also simple - this invasive species we tolerate and even introduce because it massively benefits food production for humans.

  • I don't get upset about people not voting, I just believe democracy works better in countries where voting is compulsory. Also, a much easier change that few would oppose is that election day should be on the weekend. Well, the Jews and Christians might fight it out, but they both suck.
