Moving to iPhone for the first time when the 15 comes out. Would love your must have app list.
  • It’s a really great app. Very smooth works flawlessly and voice quality is great. Also very reasonably priced compared to competitors (no subscription).

I would also add KDE Connect to my list. Not as full featured as android version but useful to quickly transfer files/photos between the computer and phone.

  • Some of my favourite apps:

    1. Voyager - Apollo like web app for Lemmy.

    2. Bitwarden - Password manager, I prefer this over keychain as it is accessible on all devices.

    3. 2FAS Authenticator - Authenticator app with a handy browser extension.

    4. Firefox Focus - Privacy browser as well as an ad blocker that integrates with Safari.

    5. FileBrowser - Handy for accessing cloud or samba storage not supported by the iOS files app. Has some other cool features too.

    6. Mobius Sync - Syncthing for iOS devices.

    7. OnlyOffice - Good Google docs alternative, makes it convenient to quickly access and edit a document/spreadsheet on mobile.

    8. Voice Dream - One of my favourite apps. May be special use case, but great app to read and listen to books and other documents.

    9. Obsidian - Knowledge base. May be special use case again, but as a student I can’t properly function without it.

    10. HereWeGo Maps - Good offline alternative/backup to Apple Maps.

  • New trolleys at Dickson Woolworths
  • Yeah, if their trolley fleet was due for an upgrade perhaps it would make sense. I do wonder how durable the plastic trolleys are long term being mistreated and left out in the elements.

  • Can someone please explain me the steps involved in buying a house?
  • A broker will cost you nothing as your lender will pay them once the loan is established. Another advantage of a broker is a couple of years down the track you can ask them to find you a better interest rate with minimal fuss. As for legal cost I’m not 100% what the going rate is these days. I would expect somewhere between $500-$2000. As the above comment said, a good legal firm is probably not going to be the cheapest. Definitely worth paying for expertise. It’s a small cost in the grand scheme.

  • My advice would be to find a good mortgage broker. They guide you through the process and can apply to multiple lenders simultaneously. Once you are pre approved you can start shopping. If you make an offer that is accepted on property you will need to engage the services of a conveyancer to sort property handover. Lots of paperwork to sign and from personal experiences it rarely goes smoothly. I would also advice engaging the services of a building/pest inspector prior to handover.

  • NSW police use force against Indigenous Australians at drastically disproportionate levels, data shows
  • Im speaking anecdotally, but as a law abiding citizen, none of my interactions with NSW police have been a positive experience. I would imagine individuals from other social/cultural backgrounds experience far worse treatment. IMO NSW police either needs a massive cultural shift (unlikely) or needs to be rebuilt from scratch.

  • Big W removes sex education book from shelves after staff members abused
  • The SDA are known to be extremely socially conservative, having donated to campaigns against same sex marriage and anti-abolition. I suspect what the original comment is trying to say is they would likely approve of the customers actions.

  • Robo-debt royal commission ends in criminal referrals
  • I don’t think it’s a culture war bullshit to point out one party is systemically corrupt compared to the other, it’s just the reality. Fact is not all MPs and public servants are corrupt. The majority do the right thing and want to serve the public. To say they are all the same is just plain, flat out ignorant. I do hope those responsible are held to account. I hope this will give at least some closure to the victims. Give it time the report was only just released.

  • Robo-debt royal commission ends in criminal referrals
  • This royal commission is a prime example that ALP and the coalition are not the same. That phrase is just propaganda pushed by corrupt politicians (predominantly Libs/Nat) to justify and deflect their own actions.

  • Fairphone 3 gets 7 years of updates, besting every other Android OEM
  • I believe someone else in this thread has mentioned this already, For most people the feature set on phones has been stagnant for many years. Most users have their use case met already and additional features are really just bloat (for the most part). Not all people are into tech, and a phone is simply a tool. And therefore don’t always want/need the latest and greatest.

  • Personal Justifications for different phone life cycles
  • I just wait for family or friends who are on contracts to upgrade. They’re usually pretty happy to let them go for a reasonable price. My partner just brought a 12 (I think) from her brother who upgrades every other year.
