‘Thread that needle’: Kamala Harris’ criminal justice policies in California angered progressives and police
  • From the article:

Throughout her tenure as district attorney, Harris focused on securing convictions. Felony conviction rates rose from 52% to 71%, and gun crime convictions rose to 92% in the first five years she was in office, according to her book.

She also increased convictions for drug sellers, from 56% in 2003 to 74% in 2008, Harris noted. At the same time, Harris also implemented the Back on Track program, which provided nonviolent offenders — many of whom were low-level drug dealers — with the chance to receive a high school diploma, job training and access to available work, instead of prison sentences.

So putting aside from the click-baity title and a small number of contentious cases, she cracked down on gun crime and implemented a program for imprisoned drug dealers so they had the possibility of turning their lives around when they got out. That's not too bad.

  • Cheers. I don't think I was in it last year, but I'll definitely join it this year. When you get around to it (no rush) please let us know the invite code.

  • Live updates: Harris has support from enough Democratic delegates to become presidential nominee, AP survey finds
  • There are two camps of Democrats:

    • The ones who want a very open fresh nomination process to emphasize the differences between their party as good faith across in picking their candidate when compared to the GOP.
    • The ones who want the process done ASAP so the focus can turn to fund raising and campaigning, because they feel Harris is the natural and best candidate.

The Obamas fall into the first camp. I don't think they are anti-Harris. They just want to ensure as much transparency as possible.

I don't think either camp is wrong. They both have their merits. But the group who want the nomination process done and dusted as soon as possible are clearly in the majority.

  • Majority of pledged Democratic delegates back Harris for presidential nomination
  • Exactly! The most recent UK general election cycle was only 45 days long (May 22nd when Sunak announced the election date, to July 5th which was the day after election day). Arguably it was actually only 44 days, but I threw in an extra day at the end for good measure. Compared to that 100 days is an age.

  • Are we going to do a fantasy PL thing this season? If so I'll participate, if only so I can prop the league up with my horrifically underperforming team.

I swear every time I play now, my team just gets hammered with injuries, to the point where I can barely even field a team. Then I get distracted and forget about the team for several months.

Edit: If there wasn't a c/gunners one before, I could create one, if there's enough interest.

  • How the hell do these sell-on clauses work?!

I assumed that once the player is sold a second time, the original club would get their portion of the sale, and that works then be the end of it for them, because a new contract in which they weren't included would then kick in.

So for example, if club A sells a player to club B with a sell-on clause condition, then club B sells said player to club C, club A gets a portion of that sale. But if club C then sold the player to club D, club A would get nothing.

But that doesn't seem to be what's happening. It sounds like there's some sort of 'in perpetuity' stacking nonsense going on.

  • Some Republicans call on Biden to resign the presidency, too, after he ended his campaign
  • Of course they did. Because those people are hypocritical, disingenuous turds who care more about grandstanding for the lunatic fringe of their base than they care to be reasonable human beings.

  • That is a legitimately excellent point. Yes, if they were going to diverge that much then they should have made it its own thing instead of trying to cash in on an existing franchise.

  • I was just reading about PL club mascots (bit of a rabbit hole I fell into), and got to the part about the spuds.

They have 'chirpy' the cockerel. Then they also have a female mascot named 'lily' the cockerel. Not lily the hen (or pullet), lily the cockerel.

Those muppets can't even succeed at coming up with a childrens mascot.

  • Good question. There aren't many stand-out management candidates who Munich haven't already chewed through. But at this point it seems like they are just stumbling from one season to another when it comes to their manager situation.

  • Daily Discussion - 20 July 2024
  • Apparently we're letting Bologna add their own sell-on fee. Which is definitely one way of resolving the issue.

  • Joe Biden faces increasing pressure to quit the race, but has spent a lifetime overcoming the odds
  • If he leaves the race now he will leave office with a positive legacy as an effective one-term president who saved the country from chaos and authoritarians in its time of need. He's got a lot accomplished over the last 3.5 years and he's been a calming and rational influence.

If he stays in the race he will permanently tarnish his legacy, invariably lose the race (because the cast majority of voters have now lost confidence in his mental health), and usher in another spell of strident, dangerous ideology.

I thought the whole reason he chose a younger, more middle of the road VP was to lay the ground work for her ascension. (If he didn't think Harris was electable as President then he fucked up.) It's time for Biden to hand the reigns over to Harris and see what happens.

  • Not a surprise. I didn't mind the show (I didn't play the games so I didn't go into it with any preconceived expectations, and it was a fun enough 'switch brain off and enjoy' sci-fi story). But it got so much flack from fans (rightly or wrongly - I'm not making any judgement there), the plot was a bit meandering, and they had sort of boxed themselves in by the end of season two. And it clearly cost a lot. So an imminent death was expected.

  • Daily Discussion - 19 July 2024
  • Yeah, Eddie's a good lad. With the right support he will set Ligue 1 on fire. I'll be glad if both of them leave the country, but for very different reasons. Greenwood is a massive arsehole and the further he is away from England the better. And Eddie will inevitably score a few bangers against us if he stay in the PL, because that's just what happens when we sell quality strikers.

  • What's the ~~Cloud~~CrowdStrike thing going on?
  • It's definitely weird. They might well throw one out two developers and As under the bus for this event (I've seen this happen at other organizations - and such decisions smack of shitty management). But no matter how you look at it this is a company-wide failure. Because they didn't have the infrastructure and policies in place to test their changes properly.

  • Jack Henry-Francis departs the Academy for a loan spell with Sligo Rivers

Looks like it will only be until November, but it seems very likely the young midfielder will head off for another loan spell after that.

Silly season summer transfer rumours list - 2024 (updated Jul 21, 2024)

    Introduction

Below is a list of transfer rumours for possible incoming transfers during the summer transfer window of 2024, along with some key pieces of information. 'Likelihood' is based on information at the time of last review, and brief reasoning is given for each rumour. But ultimately it's purely subjective.

Possibly out-bound players are limited to those who have seen some first team minutes. The line for exclusion for the list is fuzzy right now (Patino is on it Biereth is not). But it might get changed as we go along. Confirmed out includes all confirmed players, including Academy players who have been released.

The aim is for this list to be updated every couple of days. Information will be pulled from the daily discussion threads, along with other sources.

Transfer reliability sources list is available here.

If you hear about a rumour, please post a link and brief summary in the latest daily discussion thread!

    Players In

    Potential Ins List

    Ordered by last name.

    Yaser Asprilla

    • Positions: Right Wing
    • Current club: Watford
    • Likelihood: Unlikely (3/10) ➖ - Asprilla did pretty well for Watford in the Championship last season. And at 20 years old and available for a comparatively affordable price, the Colombian could be seen as a relatively safe gamble for an understudy for Saka. However, this rumour flared up briefly and then went cold.
    • Highest news source: 4

    Dan Bentley

    • Positions: Goalkeeper
    • Current club: Wolves
    • Likelihood: Possible (5/10) 🔼 - According to solid sources an attempt was made to bring our former Academy player back as a back-up for Raya. But the first offer was described by Wolves as being 'derisory'. But we just made a much higher offer. There's still a gap in price offered versus price expected, but it's shrinking.
    • Highest news source: 2

    Justin Bijlow

    • Positions: Goalkeeper
    • Current club: Feyenoord
    • Likelihood: Unlikely (3/10) ➖ - Reliable sources indicate the player is interested. But rumours of us buying him have grown ever colder, while other PL clubs have ramped up their interest. Seems likely he'd only come in if we can find a buyer for Ramsdale, which doesn't look too likely.
    • Highest news source: 3

    Brian Brobbey

    • Positions: Striker
    • Current club: Ajax
    • Likelihood: Unlikely (3/10) ➖ - Fresh rumour with not many good sources. The chatter is that we're competing with Man United for the young Dutch striker. This smacks hot air and/or agent hyping.
    • Highest news source: 4

    Riccardo Calafiori

    • Positions: Centreback, Left Back
    • Current club: Bologna
    • Likelihood: Likely (8/10) 🔼 - According to Romano, we are nearly there! Arteta convinced the young Italian defender to join us weeks ago, and will probably use him in the left back slot. But an agreement with Bologna has stalled because they wanted everything up front and they thought Basel's 50% sell-on clause was unfair. We floated the idea of throwing in Kiwior to sweeten the deal, but he didn't want to go to Bologna. But allowing Bologna to insert a sell-on deal of their own was satisfactory. A conclusion is expected some time next week.
    • Highest news source: 2

    Diogo Costa

    • Positions: Goalkeeper
    • Current club: Porto
    • Likelihood: Unlikely (3/10) ➖ - No, not the lunatic former Chelsea striker, but a different guy! Still lots of time on his current contract, but Porto need to sell some players. However, he wouldn't be cheap at around 70m, which is a lot for a back-up.
    • Highest news source: 4

    Fabricio Diaz

    • Positions: Defensive Midfield
    • Current Club: Al-Gharafa
    • Likelihood: Possible (4/10) 🆕 - The young Uruguayan would be fairly affordable, but the rumours on this one are very flimsy right now. It's possible, but we need better sources.
    • Highest news source: 4

    Patrick Dorgu

    • Positions: Left Back
    • Current club: Lecce
    • Likelihood: Unlikely (3/10) ➖ - A new rumour links us with Dorgu. Though the fact that we are apparently close to completing a move for Calafiori makes this one seem like hot air. Maybe he's being looked at as a back-up in case the Calafiori deal fails. Or maybe it's just nonsense.
    • Highest news source: 3

    Artem Dovbyk

    • Positions: Striker
    • Current club: Girona
    • Likelihood: Unlikely (2/10) ➖ - Had one good season at Girona and we are apparently interested in him. Though a fee of 40m might be a bit steep for a player who is unproven in the PL. West Ham might be interested in him. But from our perspective, the chatter has grown cold.
    • Highest news source: 4

    Désiré Doué

    • Positions: Left Wing
    • Current club: Rennes
    • Likelihood: Unlikely (3/10) ➖ - We've been pulled into ongoing chatter about Doué, though we arguably don't have a burning need for another left winger right now, with Martinelli and Trossard on our books. So this is probably just idle chatter, and he'll probably go to PSG, Bayern Munich, or Spurs instead.
    • Highest news source: 4

    Marcus Edwards

    • Positions: Right Wing
    • Current club: Sporting CP
    • Likelihood: Unlikely (2/10) ➖ - The former spuds academy graduate did well at CP last season, but at 25 he doesn't seem like an upgrade on our own Reiss Nelson. And sources for this rumour have not been especially reliable.
    • Highest news source: 4

    Eberechi Eze

    • Positions: Right Wing
    • Current club: Crystal Palace
    • Likelihood: Possible (5/10) ➖ - A former academy player who we released early, Eze hasn't been shy about his enduring fondness for us. And he's coming of a fantastic season with Palace. Lots of chatter surrounding us on this one, but no solid sources.
    • Highest news source: 4

    Mikayil Faye

    • Positions: Left Back, Centreback
    • Current club: Barcelona
    • Likelihood: Possible (3/10) ➖ - Barcelona needs to sell this summer and might be tempted to part with the young defender. But rumours on this possible deal with us have gone cold.
    • Highest news source: 4

    Youssouf Fofana

    • Positions: Midfield
    • Current club: Monaco
    • Likelihood: Unlikely (3/10) ➖ - Lots of clubs are supposedly interested in him, but right now the rumours involving us seem like pure hot air.
    • Highest news source: 4

    Conor Gallagher

    • Positions: Midfield
    • Current club: Chelsea
    • Likelihood: Unlikely (2/10) ➖ - Seemed like a ridiculous rumour and chatter has started to quieten down again on it. Mostly because he only had a year left on his contract, and Chelsea needs to raise some cash. But even still this one seems unlikely.
    • Highest news source: 3

    Joan Garcia

    • Positions: Goalkeeper
    • Current club: Espanyol
    • Likelihood: Possible (4/10) ➖ - The young keeper has had a good season and is set to represent Spain at the Olympics. His lower price tag (around 21m) and a previous connection to goalkeeping coach Cana is adding fuel to this fire. Seems likely he'd only come in if we can ship Ramsdale out (either on a permanent deal or on a loan). And not at all if we bring in another senior keeper.
    • Highest news source: 2

    Lutsharel Geertruida

    • Positions: Right Back, Centreback
    • Current club: Feyenoord
    • Likelihood: Unlikely (3/10) ➖ - Yet another Feyenoord player being linked to us - this time a versatile defender. Rumours are that he wouldn't be too expensive (around 30m). But he seems more likely to go to Liverpool or another club. And our involvement in the rumours has grown cold.
    • Highest news source: 4

    Santiago Gimenez

    • Positions: Striker
    • Current club: Feyenoord
    • Likelihood: Unlikely (3/10) ➖ - The young Mexican impressed at Feyenoord last season and has now entered the rumour mill as a possible target for us.
    • Highest news source: 3

    Serge Gnabry

    • Positions: Right Wind
    • Current club: Bayern Munich
    • Likelihood: Unlikely (2/10) 🆕 - It's actually surprising our former Academy graduate hasn't popped up as a potential incoming sooner. But realistically, he would cost too much in both transfer fees and salary costs.
    • Highest news source: 3

    Jack Grealish

    • Positions: Left Wing
    • Current club: Jack Grealish
    • Likelihood: Very Unlikely (1/10) ➖ - This rumour appeared recently, but seems very unlikely and credible sources are basically non-existent. Grealish probably isn't happy he's not getting more minutes. But he'd be very expensive, and between Martinelli and Trossard we are already well represented on the left wing.
    • Highest news source: 4

    Marc Guehi

    • Positions: Centreback
    • Current club: Crystal Palace
    • Likelihood: Unlikely (3/10) ➖ - Long been talk of him leaving Palace and moving to a bigger club, and of us being in the mix. But it seems like our name is being used to drum up bids from others.
    • Highest news source: 4

    Serhou Guirassy

    • Positions: Striker
    • Current club: Stuttgart
    • Likelihood: Unlikely (2/10) ➖ - Talk is that we are interested in the 29 year old. But credible information points to him joining Dortmund instead.
    • Highest news source: 2

    Arda Guler

    • Positions: Attacking Midfield
    • Current club: Real Madrid
    • Likelihood: Unlikely (2/10) ➖ - Has looked good in the Euros, so of course rumours linking him to us have begun. But his club letting him go at this point does not seem Realistic.
    • Highest news source: 4

    Bruno Guimaraes

    • Positions: Defensive Midfield
    • Current club: Newcastle
    • Likelihood: Unlikely (2/10) ➖ - Looked fairly likely a one point, but Newcastle's defensive midfielder is in hot demand, and seems likely to go to either Roma or Man City right now.
    • Highest news source: 4

    Viktor Gyokeres

    • Positions: Striker
    • Current club: Sporting CP
    • Likelihood: Possible (5/10) 🔼 - The ongoing, undulating rumour about us trying to sign Gyokeres is on the up again. But only time will tell.
    • Highest news source: 4

    Quilindschy Hartman

    • Positions: Left Back
    • Current club: Feyenoord
    • Likelihood: Unlikely (3/10) ➖ - This one has been a flash-in-the-pan in the rumour mill. And whispers have gone silent over the last couple of weeks.
    • Highest news source: 3

    Jorrel Hato

    • Positions: Centreback
    • Current club: Ajax
    • Likelihood: Unlikely (2/10) ➖ - Rumours indicate that Arteta was very keen on Hato. However, the player has said he plans on staying at Ajax next season.
    • Highest news source: 4

    Alexander Isak

    • Positions: Striker
    • Current club: Newcastle
    • Likelihood: Unlikely (2/10) 🔽 - This rumour is now quietening down again. While Isak does look likely to leave Newcastle, his destination is likely somewhere like Chelsea, who are throwing around their silly money again.
    • Highest news source: 2

    Ferdi Kadıoğlu

    • Positions: Left Back
    • Current club: Fenerbahce
    • Likelihood: Unlikely (3/10) ➖ - Momentum was building on this rumour, although Romano doesn't think there's much to it. Apparently the player is open to a move to us and we've floated an initial bid. But Fenerbahce want more than we initially offered.
    • Highest news source: 2

    Joshua Kimmich

    • Positions: Right Back
    • Current club: Bayern Munich
    • Likelihood: Unlikely (2/10) 🔽 - Player's contract is ending and he's likely to leave Munich. But his wage demands and age are off-putting to us. Chatter about us going for Kimmich has gone cold, and the latest news is we are not in the mix.
    • Highest news source: 4

    Andriy Lunin

    • Positions: Goalkeeper
    • Current club: Real Madrid
    • Likelihood: Unlikely (3/10) 🔼 - Rumours we've made a bid for him, but sources are light and the player probably wouldn't want to play second fiddle to Raya with us.
    • Highest news source: 4

    Donyell Malen

    • Positions: Right Back
    • Current club: Borussia Dortmund
    • Likelihood: Unlikely (3/10) ➖ - Another of our former Academy graduates who's been linked to us. He still publicly loves us, but it's hard to see him coming back just to be Saka's understudy, especially for the pretty tidy sum that Dortmund would expect.
    • Highest news source: 4

    Mikel Merino

    • Positions: Defensive Midfield
    • Current club: Real Sociedad
    • Likelihood: Possible (6/10) 🔽 - The former Newcastle player has caught the eye for his recent performances. The latest talk is that we've made him a fantastic offer and he's weighing that up. But other chatter is that we haven't even made that offer yet.
    • Highest news source: 2

    Murillo

    • Positions: Centreback
    • Current club: Nottingham Forest
    • Likelihood: Unlikely (2/10) ➖ - He's now popped up on our transfers radar, in that we might be one of several clubs interested. But no word that we've even floated a bid. So it all seems like hot air.
    • Highest news source: 4

    Rodrigo Muniz

    • Positions: Striker
    • Current club: Fulham
    • Liklihood: Unlikely (2/10) ➖ - Not many solid sources and the rumours have gone cold recently.
    • Highest news source: 4

    Pedro Neto

    • Positions: Right Wing
    • Current club: Wolves
    • Likelihood: Unlikely (3/10) ➖ - This one has been simmering for quite a while. He has all the skills to make him a great fit for us. But he also has the terrifying injury record. Wolves want big money, and talk has gone quiet recently.
    • Highest news source: 3

    Joao Neves

    • Positions: Defensive Midfield
    • Current club: Benfica
    • Likelihood: Unlikely (3/10) ➖ - The young Portuguese winger is in hot demand. Seems unlikely right now.
    • Highest news source: 4

    Dani Olmo

    • Positions: Attacking Midfield
    • Current club: RB Leipzig
    • Likelihood: Unlikely (3/10) ➖ - The Spaniard is apparently interested in moving on, and we've been linked with him. But his price is on the higher end for a position we're not really recruiting for.
    • Highest news source: 4

    Amadou Onana

    • Positions: Defensive Midfield
    • Current club: Everton
    • Likelihood: Unlikely (2/10) 🔽 - Earlier talk put us as the forerunner to sign him. But apparently we backed off and others have taken the lead on nabbing him. Latest news is that he's on the verge of signing for Villa.
    • Highest news source: 4

    Victor Osimhen

    • Positions: Striker
    • Current club: Napoli
    • Likelihood: Possible (4/10) ➖ - Who even knows with this rumour any more! The player wants to leave and Napoli wants to sell him, and his price recently went down quite a lot. But it's still high, and our interest is either hot or cold. It sounds like he's either a last resort or a decoy for us.
    • Highest news source: 2

    Adrien Rabiot

    • Positions: Attacking Midfield
    • Current club: Juventus
    • Likelihood: Unlikely (2/10) ➖ - Wouldn't be a transfer window without this one coming up again, would it! Unreliable sources are slapping our name as an outside party on him moving. But it won't be happening for numerous reasons.
    • Highest news source: 4

    Raphinha

    • Positions: Right Wing
    • Current club: Barcelona
    • Likelihood: Unlikely (2/10) ➖ - New chatter has us attempting to get the Brazilian in exchange for a money+Nketiah deal. This seems like an old rumour with a new spin, and not at all likely to happen. Barcelona need cash, but it's very doubtful that Eddie is even on their radar.
    • Highest news source: 4

    Marcus Rashford

    • Positions: Striker, Right Wing
    • Current club: Manchester United
    • Likelihood: Unlikely (2/10) ➖ - Reliable sources indicate private talks have happened, but wages and attitude may be concerns. And newer rumours say he want to stay at Man United and fight for a place.
    • Highest news source: 1

    Leroy Sané

    • Positions: Right Wing
    • Current club: Bayern Munich
    • Likelihood: Unlikely (2/10) ➖ - Sané's position + age (28) doesn't really fit with Arteta's typical profile. Plus he'd be very expensive, all to be a back-up for Saka. So this sounds like a pipe dream.
    • Highest news source: 4

    Dominic Solanke

    • Positions: Striker
    • Current club: Bournemouth
    • Likelihood: Possible (4/10) ➖ - There have been rumours that Arteta and team have liked him for a while. So naturally, Chelsea started sniffing around. But apparently his price is too high for the Stamford Bridge lot. Seems like he's one of our back-up options that might be bid for after the Euros are over.
    • Highest news source: 4

    Wojciech Szczesny

    • Positions: Goalkeeper
    • Current club: Juventus
    • Likelihood: Unlikely (3/10) ➖ - Another one of our Academy graduates, and another frequent name in successive transfer windows. Seems unlikely as he is still in his prime and wouldn't want to sit on the bench.
    • Highest news source: 4

    Jean-Clair Todibo

    • Positions: Centreback
    • Current club: Nice
    • Likelihood: Unlikely (2/10) ➖ - This was more of a quick and dirty rumour from limited sources, and it's now gone cold. Player seems interested in moving on, but debatable whether we go for another centreback right now.
    • Highest news source: 4

    Ivan Toney

    • Positions: Striker
    • Current club: Brentford
    • Likelihood: Unlikely (3/10) ➖ - There have been sporadic rumours on him for ages. Fee has apparently been reduced since he's now in the final year of his contract. But attitude might be a concern. And we may not be going for a main striker at all now.
    • Highest news source: 3

    Viktor Tsygankov

    • Positions: Right Wing
    • Current club: Girona
    • Likelihood: Unlikely (2/10) ➖ - Not many resources to substantiate this yet. and the rumour has now gone very cold.
    • Highest news source: 4

    Nico Williams

    • Positions: Left Wing
    • Current club: Athletic Bilbao
    • Likelihood: Unlikely (3/10) ➖ - Did look likely at one point. But the young Spaniard has had a fantastic Euros and is now in high demand. Allegedly he has very high wage demands, which might be off-putting for Edu and Arteta, considering we already have two very good options on the left.
    • Highest news source: 2

    Baris Alper Yilmaz

    • Positions: Right Wing
    • Current club: Galatasaray
    • Likelihood: Unlikely (3/10) ➖ - Flimsey third-hand sources claim we have an interest with the winger, along with Liverpool, Dortmund, and half the other clubs in the world. This sounds more and more like agent hyping.

    Edon Zhegrova

    • Positions: Right Wing
    • Current club: Lille
    • Likelihood: Unlikely (3/10) ➖ - The Kosovan winger is now being linked to us as a potential new arrival. Not much to go on right now, but his contract with Lille is good until 2026, so they would presumably demand a decent fee. This rumour seems more like idle conjecture at this point.

    • Xavi Simons - Signed for Paris Saint-Germain
    • Joshua Zirkzee - Signed for Manchester United

    Women's First Team:

    Players Out

    Potential Outs List

    Ordered by last name.

    Gabriel Jesus

    • Positions: Striker
    • Likelihood: Unlikely (3/10) - Highly regarded by Arteta, and chances of leaving lessen the longer we don't sign a new striker. But he might be available for the right price.

    Jakub Kiwior

    • Positions: Left Back, Central Defence
    • Likelihood: Possible (4/10) - He's coveted by some Serie A teams. It's possible his future is closely tied to us bring in Calafiori (either as a deal make-weight or as a separate departure), though Zinchenko seems a bit more likely to leave if we land the Italian.

    Reiss Nelson

    • Positions: Right Wing
    • Likelihood: Very likely (9/10) - Player really wants to leave us, and is now on the brink of joining West Ham.

    Eddie Nketiah

    • Positions: Striker
    • Likelihood: Very Likely (9/10) - Widely expected to be moved on for the right price, especially if we bring in a new striker. Various clubs are rumoured to be interested in him, most recently Marseille.

    Charlie Patino

    • Positions: Midfield
    • Likelihood: Very likely (9/10) - Contract now only has 1 year left and player wants to move on, so it's highly likely we will look to sell him now, probably for a reduced amount. Some Italian clubs are interested in him due to his Italian heritage.

    Thomas Partey

    • Positions: Defensive Midfield
    • Likelihood: Possible (7/10) - Wants to stay and might require a large fee, but has been hindered by injuries, has fallen down the pecking order. Seems to be coveted by Saudi clubs, but no deal is apparently close.

    Aaron Ramsdale

    • Positions: Goalkeeper
    • Likelihood: Possible (6/10) - Displaced for starting keeper by Raya and too good to rot on the bench. But there are not many suitors due to his price and wages. Apparently Southampton is interested in him. But he might just be sent out on loan.

    William Saliba

    • Positions: Centreback
    • Likelihood: Unlikely (3/10) - Real Madrid seem keen to sign him, but possibly not until next season when he's down to one year left on his contract. Hopefully Edu and Arteta can get Big Willy to sign a new contract and then they can tell Madrid to get lost!

    Emile Smith Rowe

    • Positions: Left Wing, Attacking Midfield
    • Likelihood: Very Likely (9/10) - Looked for a while like he was going to stay with us. But Fulham is very keen on signing him and have submitted successive bids. Palace might also be in the mix. Either way, it seems almost certain he'll be gone soon. Godspeed Ernie!

    Kieran Tierney

    • Positions: Left Back
    • Likelihood: Very unlikely (1/10) - Doesn't fit into Arteta's style of play but too good to sit on the bench. However, he's not going anywhere after his unfortunate Euro injury.

    Fabio Vieira

    • Positions: Right Wing, Attacking Midfield
    • Likelihood: Possible (4/10) - Hasn't been consistent enough to push on for a starting XI position, partly due to enduring injuries. There are rumours he is unhappy and could move back to Portugal, but no offers have come in. So it seems likely he's staying for another season.

    Oleksandr Zinchenko

    • Positions: Left Back
    • Likelihood: Possible (4/10) - If/when Calafiori arrives, our effervescent Ukrainian fullback will move further down the bench. So a sale seemed possible. However, no offers have come in, despite Kompany's Bayern Munich seeming interested.

    Removed Potential Outs List

    • Karl Hein - Goalkeeper signed a new contract with us

    Confirmed Outs

    Ordered by last name.

    • Tyreece John-Jules - Contract expired

    • Arthur Okonkwo - Rejected new contract, signed for Wrexham
    • Kamarni Ryan - Released
    • Kido Taylor-Hart - Contract expired
    • Reuell Walters - Rejected new contract and left

    Other Players Of Note

    • Chido Obi-Martin - Despite our ongoing (and apparently very impressive) attempts to retain the prodigious 16 year old Academy striker, it looks almost certain that he'll be leaving. He might even be joining the train wreck that is Manchester United.
    • Lucas Nygaard - Our first Summer signing of 2024, he's joined our under-21s from FC Nordsjaelland. Won't be featuring in the first team for a season or two, but one for the future.
    • Tommy Setford - The young English goalkeeper has joined our Academy from Ajax. Another one for the future.

Arsenal assistant’s exit was sparked by summer signing dispute

Steve Round's departure before the start of this season was due to a disagreement with the other coaches, with his opinion being that Raya displacing Ramsdale would be disruptive to the squad.

Ornstein: Arsenal summer recruitment will have specific focus

In addition to bringing in some players who can slot right into the first team's starting XI, Ornstein predicts we will be putting a lot of focus on recruiting for the older end of the Academy. While there are a handful of phenomenal prospects emerging from our academy, there's a feeling that they need young players of a similar skill level around them to help them grow and then with provide real competition. And we also need to improve our loan placements, with only Okonkwo and Biereth having excellent loan spells this season. And Okonkwo will be out of contract and moving on soon.
