Adults who have lost a spouse or SO, how do you cope?
  • You may try a few groups before you find the right place for you. Grief is hard to navigate and no one is going to have all the answers you're seeking. But there are people who can stand with you through this.

  • Adults who have lost a spouse or SO, how do you cope?
  • I lost my husband almost 8 years ago and my best advice is to find support. Don't isolate yourself. For me, family and friends were there and available but I couldn't seem to open up to them. I found a Google chat group of widow(er)s that worked for me. Any time, day or night, I could text that group of people who understood this utterly un-understandable grief. They helped me not feel alone as I found my path through it.

Message me and I'll be happy to give you my contact info if you need someone to talk to.

  • Are you replacing Reddit with Lenny?
  • Yep! 100% since Sync shut down. There's enough content here already to keep me engaged though not for as long as I'd scroll on Reddit. But watching new communities pop up and grow is fun!

  • How does this instance feel about this growing pact against federating with Meta?
  • I vote to defederate. If I want to see meta shit I can sign up there but I'd delete this account and go find some other instance that chose not to federate with them. I want to choose when/if I interact with meta, not end up in yet another place where they dominate everything else

(Realized I posted from the wrong account. My opinion stays the same for both my accounts on sh.itjust works and reddthat and any others I may join)

  • Is it just me or did anyone else became a more avid poster since joining lemmy?
  • Same! I've posted more this week than I have in the last 10 years on Reddit. I feel like I can actually join a real discussion with real people here. Posts aren't filled with 500 bot comments 5 minutes after being posted and my comments aren't auto-removed because I don't meet some random requirement for posting in that sub or not having enough karma or whatever.

I also signed up on a few different instances while checking things out and I've kinda created different themes for myself. It's been helping me keep track of discussions better having all my politics discussions on one instance, local and sports stuff in another, and general scrolling/random in another.

  • How did Lemmy.world become more popular than Lemmy.ml?
  • Haha same. I started at beehaw but am having a hard time manually adding communities that I want to keep in that feed since they aren't onfederated instances. So I moved to sh.ithust.works and reddthat.

I'll probably keep beehaw, I like a lot of what it has to offer and it's cool for it to be a specific corner for me. But one of the others will probably become my default home

  • Why doesn't via rail combine freight and passenger trips on the same train? To reduce the cost for passengers
  • There are also different types of freight trains that do very different trip plans. Manifest trains stop frequently and for long periods of time. Intermodal trains often pass through hump yards and are torn down and rebuilt after interchanging cars for various destinations. None of this conducive to passenger cars being in the mix. Not to mention hazmat cars and the liability of hauling hazmat and people together.

  • What's your Sync story?
  • I've had sync so long I can't even remember redditing without it. My late husband was a tech guy and when we met in college he introduced me to Reddit and recommended the app and bought the pro version of it. Been a daily user for at least 10 years and can't wait to see Sync for Lemmy!

  • Lemmy equivalents to subreddits

Hello new friends! Of course I'm a new member having abandoned the shit show that has become reddit and am starting to get the idea of different instances and building a new feed for myself. I saw a post that had some Lemmy equivalents of popular subreddits such as /r/pics and /aww and what not but I've since lost it. I saved the post for later and this morning my saved post was for a comment in an unrelated post. I'll figure out what I did wrong eventually but could anyone help me find this post again? I've been searching all morning and having no luck figuring out where I was when I saw it or how to get back
