With Games with Gold removed, the Lemmy community and subreddit have lost their purpose. What should we do with the Lemmy community?

Option #1: Leave it open as an archive to Games with Gold By choosing this option, the community won't see any major changes, barring the lack of Games with Gold posts. The community would remain open for posting and discussion. This option is best for remembering what Games with Gold was and nostalgia.

Option #2: Private the community (similar to the API protests)

By choosing this option, the Lemmy community would be closed. Unless there is significant community outreach, the community would remain closed permanently. This option may help prevent confusing users who may not be informed about the Games with Gold program being ended.

Option #3: Become a community dedicated to GamePass Core By choosing this option, the community would have GamePass Core updates posted to it, with an emphasis on games being rotated in and out of the catalog. This option would give the community a new purpose, and help actively maintain the community. It does have the downside of the community name potentially being deceiving for new members expecting active Games with Gold content.

If you have any ideas for options, please feel free to leave them in the comments. Depending on the level of support your option gains, and the level of support the other options gain, we might be able to restart the poll with your option available.

If option 2 is chosen, I just want to say: I've really enjoyed running C/gameswithgold and supporting the community! I really hope I helped leave a positive impact on everyone, even if that positive impact is as small as claiming a game. -Ryanlf999

Microsoft has officially announced they are replacing Games with Gold with Xbox Gamepass Core in September.

It will cost 9.99 USD a month. If you are a subscriber to Xbox Live Gold, you will automatically become a Xbox Gamepass Core subscriber. Xbox Live Gold was 9.99$; the cost to current Xbox Live Gold subscribers should not go up.

On the surface, it appears Xbox Gamepass Core will be providing more value than Xbox Live Gold.

As for the future of this Lemmy community and the Subreddit, that is up for debate. I will be creating another poll in the coming days to help figure out the future direction of this community.

For the time being, the August Games with Gold will still be available.

The Reddit admins have shown a lack of amnesty and have been openly hostile to the community's wishes. Although R/gameswithgold will be maintained, my goal is to make this the main gameswithgold community.

The goal of R/gameswithgold was (and still is, for the time being) to alert Xbox Gold subscribers of when another free game was available with their subscription. That's the goal of C/gameswithgold!
