Howdy! Would you mind reposting this over in the megathread? https://beehaw.org/post/550898
It'll help keep things tidy given how hot of a topic this is at the moment + with everyone consolidating there, you may find a more active/engaging discussion on your post there as well!
Locking for now, will remove once you have a chance to repost.
Certainly skews towards specific tastes and genres [indie, punk, diy, and sometimes undergroud hip-hop], but super active and on top of new music and related info
I follow the news portion as well, but for pure new music discovery: https://www.brooklynvegan.com/tags/new-songs/?from=trending
Log4j is another fun one.
Log For Jay or Log Forge?
So, it actually does (for communities at least), it just isn't evident/obvious at all yet
If you click on the 'Subscribed' or 'All Posts' text in the top middle after you login to an instance, you'll see the screen that loads now says 'Community...' in light grey at the top. Click that, it's a search box. I discovered this 100% by accident
Here ya go!
Per the community sidebar -
Your own music is also acceptable here
Let's hear it!
afaik, that's about it for the time being
I've been using it mostly so I can support the devs and submit bug/crash reports, but fall back to just the website for actual, casual browsing
There is a community for mlem over here as well: https://beehaw.org/c/[email protected]
This has me rethinking like two decades of coding. wtf.
I think it is a lot of the latter at this point, tbh. Non tech-savvy folks that don't even think about the browser software at all, let alone know there are other options or seek them out.
Will certainly pop in over there too, thanks for the heads up!
Just converted my yard this year to xeriscaping and native plants.
The city I live in actually gives a property tax break (up to a limit) per square foot, which is pretty awesome. Win win!
Thanks for all of the work and for the regular, transparent communication!
The Cube Rule of Food Identification
Identify your food based on the location of structural starch. Is a hot dog a sandwich? No, it's clearly a taco.
This increase will be more interesting as we see the trend over time. My thought is that while sub numbers will go up, renewal rates, generally, but certainly post-trial will drop precipitously due to casual/temporary interest for the hit show or movie of the week/month/year - using someone else's login to watch a singular "must watch" of the moment will not directly translate to ongoing subscriptions.
Netflix has shifted to quantity over quality (not saying some of their content is not still quite high quality) and with that, viewership and subscription trends will shift as well.
For me, it is too far gone at this point. The events of the last ~week just highlighted something that I was willfully ignorant of in that it has not been the website I joined back in 2007 for a very long time. VC-backed focus on monetization, profit, return on investment, and ipo (and everything that comes along with that) has ramped up tremendously in the last few years and I think this is now the tipping point of Reddit doing a Digg.
It's a bummer, but not shocking or surprising as it follows a long line of exactly the same pattern, across tech. I'll have fond memories for sure, but have accepted it and am ready to move on to something new.
Also, this is my first post. Happy to be here!
