Teapot replacement lid appreciation
  • I broke the lid from my wedding gift teapot (20+ years old). Denby didn't do the exact model any more, but gave me a good enough replacement, free!

Won't help your predicament, but just wanted to shout out denby for awesome customer service!

  • PSA: The Docker Snap package on Ubuntu sucks.
  • This year I finally snapped (pun intended!), and moved to debian 12 on the desktop (after starting on Ubuntu 6.06). It's so familiar, but somehow more straight forward. Things "just work", as opposed to the constant niggles I had with Ubuntu.

  • Sunak does not rule out general election if Lords block Rwanda plan
  • “We’re determined to get this through as quickly as possible. So the real question is: is the Labour Party going to stand in the way and stop this from happening, or are they going to work with us and support this Bill so we can get it through as quickly as possible?"

Is this some sort of weird 3d chess thing that I'm too dumb to understand? " labour won't back our batshit plan, so we'll teach them a lesson, and call an election. Which they'll win. And then they won't enact our batshit plan. "

Nope, I don't get it at all.

Steve Borthwick queries World Rugby high-hits approach

www.bbc.co.uk Borthwick queries World Rugby high-hits approach

England coach Steve Borthwick suggests World Rugby's approach to high tackles has shifted in the wake of their intervention over an incident involving his captain Owen Farrell.

Borthwick queries World Rugby high-hits approach

"I also note there was a tremendous amount of comment from World Rugby about Owen Farrell over a couple of weeks during our preparation for this tournament, a situation that went on and on, and there were lots of comments from World Rugby."

This is the 2nd or 3rd time he's whinged about the time taken over Farrell's card. Without seemingly realising that if he / they had shut up and accepted the decision at the time, it would have blown over quickly.

  • all likely to be one sided. However, I'm interested in seeing how Tonga go with their ex-all blacks. You never know, the good weather may suit them better than Ireland, and at least make it a decent game.

www.bbc.co.uk 'That is criminal!' - Kulasuriya run out by Cross for 0

Kate Cross shows great awareness to run out Achini Kulasuriya after the Sri Lankan is caught meandering back to her crease at the non-striker's end.

'That is criminal!' - Kulasuriya run out by Cross for 0

After the furore over Bairstow's run out in the Ashes, is this one "great awareness" as the BBC says (in the body, the headline seems to have been changed!), or poor sportsmanship?

A bit of a long read, and nothing to really surpise anyone here, but it's good to give some history to the current shitshow

Owen Farrel Banned for Four games
  • Seems sensible. Now please can Borthwick, and everyone else in the England camp just accept it, and move on. Or will we have another week of "anyone who knows him, knows he's not a dirty player" and other empty nonsense?

  • What a shit, anti-ev article.

But in answer to the question, I'd ask the host before arriving, and would expect to pay / donate to cover the cost of charging the car. It'd work out as an extra fiver a day or so, at a guess.

    Bristol Bears to face Crusaders

www.bristolbearsrugby.com Bears to face Crusaders in historic Ashton Gate clash

Bristol Bears will face the newly crowned 2023 Super Rugby champions and one of the leading club sides on the planet on Friday, February 9th, 2024, when the New Zealand side the Crusaders visit Ashton Gate for a historic exhibition match.

Got to give Bristol credit here - yes, it's likely to be 2nd teams that run out for this, but they're making a good event of Rugby in Bristol - getting games against the Springboks, Barbars, and now the Crusaders. A great way to get the "casual" fans in, as opposed to another match against Sale in a noddy cup (for example, no disrespect to Sale, it's just that Bris seem to play them 10 times a season!).
