Welcome fellow gardeners! What are your wishes for this magazine?
  • Would love this to be a replacement for R**'s vegetablegardening sub. I've moved away from that site and looking for replacements, and that sub is one of the ones I really miss. So would also like this magazine to pull in related content across the Fediverse so we don't have to sub to multiple places.

  • Just realized something I *don't* miss about reddit: post anxiety
  • Yup, was at a party last night and of course someone had to mention the holiday in the US tomorrow (Juneteenth) with "A most ridiculous excuse for a holiday, but that's another discussion" right in the middle of a harmless conversation. Like he just had to say it.

  • The Reddit Blackout Is Breaking Reddit
  • Go back and check your content. I've seen some post where people are claiming Reddit rolled back and their deleted or changed content has all been restored. If that's true, it needs to be shouted from the rooftops.

  • [REPOST] You can't continue working from home because you go idle in chat too often
  • Luckily my boss and colleagues all recognize Teams limitations on the idle status and we just get our work done. I'm not going to attempt to game it - but then I work when I say I'm working and the job gets done, so management isn't breathing down our necks about idle status.

  • Reddit Threatens to Remove Moderators From Subreddits Continuing Apollo-Related Blackouts
  • Why would Reddit give a crap about Apollo related content when they themselves are putting Apollo out of business? Like, if you really don't care about the third party apps, then just continue to keep your back turned and just ignore them. Jeez.

  • [REPOST] You can't continue working from home because you go idle in chat too often
  • As a fed, anything plugged into a port is automatically logged and checked, and can result in a nastygram or more serious infraction. We periodically get emails about inappropriate connections - we can't even use the USB to charge our work phones.

Then came the email that told us they knew about X instances of mouse jigglers and told us to cut it out. I wonder if managers got notified.

  • [REPOST] You can't continue working from home because you go idle in chat too often
  • The problem with Team is it goes yellow when IT'S idle, not you. That was a big adjustment when we went to Teams, understanding that someone can be furiously working away at their computer while Teams is reporting yellow. You send them a message and BAM it goes green when they see the notification and read your message. Pretty ridiculous, really, since the bulk of the software is all Microsoft...why can't Outlook tell Teams, "Hey, she's writing an email, the icon says green, silly."

  • XKCD 1172
  • I wrote code for industrial automation years ago (think assembly line machines). I was reviewing production code and found a stupid bug and fixed it, then reinstalled. The motors moved incorrectly - I don't recall if that was the time it smashed glass everywhere, but "fixing" the code definitely broke the program. I could not figure out why...but due to time constraints I sadly had reinsert the bug to put the machine back in production.

Some nights that still bothers me.

  • What Reddit Got Wrong
  • Fell down the rabbit hole of great links in this article that led me to others and others, and the whole concept of enshittification. Wow. Glad I lifted by tired Reddit head out of the sand. Still going through some withdrawals, but enjoying poking around Kbin, Mastodon and Squabbles the last few days.

  • While trying to wrap my head around the concept of the Fediverse, I made this map. How did I do?
  • This is a good idea. I joined Mastadon with the influx last November, got confused and didn't return until the current Reddit debacle. I'm trying harder now to understand, but what would have helped was 1) a simple guide to getting logged in and 2) finding content and 3) being able to view it and reply (including understanding if I was supposed to use hashtags, etc.). Get someone started with a short list of popular communities/magazines, THEN show them how to branch out. #trainingwheels
