Hey.

I'm Dan. A 36 year old father of two who doesn't have nearly as much time as he needs to do half the things he wishes he had the time to do.

Arizona Coyotes players told team is moving to Utah

I feel bad for the fans in Arizona, but I think it's time. I also think the NHL will be back at some point. They'll give it another go like in Atlanta, and who knows, maybe they'll be more successful.

Fanatics LEAK Reveals NHL Retail Jersey Plans

Not sure how important this is to most people, but I'm a bit of a jersey nerd and this has a lot of important information regarding the upcoming switch to Fanatics as the official NHL uniform designer.

Retail pricing, a new Pro version that offers a true on-ice feel and more besides. Definitely worth a watch if you're looking at picking up a jersey in the next year or two.

Everton docked two points for second financial breach

Second time this season no? And with my Leicester side, and Forest also catching heat it looks like the Premier League is taking this stuff very seriously.

Does blowing on our hot food before we put it into our mouths actually make a difference to how hot it is?
  • I mean it was called Brainiac and it did have John Tickle walking on top of a pool of custard. Are you suggesting I was wrong to use that as my foundation for all knowledge??

  • Does blowing on our hot food before we put it into our mouths actually make a difference to how hot it is?
  • You're right. But in the interest of no stupid questions I thought I'd ask anyway, because...you know, what if?.

And thanks for the grammar lesson, I didn't ask for that one but I'll take it on board.

  • Does blowing on our hot food before we put it into our mouths actually make a difference to how hot it is?
  • Thank you.

I think I saw a show 20 or so years ago that tried to debunk this and obviously either they messed up, or I wasn't paying attention.

    (The show was called Brainiac).

  • How is your week starting?
  • Turned 2 a few weeks back. I think we're entering, or have just entered the terrible twos. Fun fun fun.

  • I wish I could get into this, but it's just not for me. Seems super cool and everyone seems to be so enamored with it...but I just couldn't get it to stick.

  • Does blowing on our hot food before we put it into our mouths actually make a difference to how hot it is?

I'm thinking that no, it doesn't. Which begs the question of why we do it? Is it a psychological thing?

    Let's go!
  • Disney+ UK for certain. I'm not sure how it works out across other regions but I saw a Tiktok that said it was available worldwide.

  • How is your week starting?
  • Son broke my favourite mug. And he then threw my phone at my wrist, which hit my watch and scratched the phone screen. Yeah, its been a fun one.

  • How is your week starting?
  • I've stopped looking at my notifications on Reddit, it's just too anxiety inducing for me. Thankfully I've not had that same problem here, although I'm sure it'll happen eventually.

    Hope you feel better.

  • Have you replaced any British words with their American versions?
  • Don't worry. If she's anything like her Father she'll be more interested in Eugene Debs than Donald Trump.

  • How do we feel about the opening titles?

Lots of talk across season one about the opening credits. How do we feel about them?

Personally, I'm a big fan of them using the iconic music, and I wouldn't touch that with a ten foot barge pole.

The actual visuals? Utterly perplexing to me, and I say that as someone who's familiar with the source material. I understand what they were going for but I think everything is a bit hard to parse.

    Season 1 Weekly Rewatch | Episode 1
  • I'm probably alone in this one but If I was going to do a rewatch I think I might jump in during episode five or something. That's not to say there's not some good stuff in the early episodes, but I feel like there's also a lot of set up that I'm not sure I'd like to sit through again.

  • Have you replaced any British words with their American versions?
  • She used to. We've put a stop to YouTube though because she turns into a little demon after watching it.

  • Have you replaced any British words with their American versions?
  • I'm already half way there being a big NHL fan.

  • And so it begins.
  • I don't think mine is totally ready right now, but I remember with my elder that there was a pretty big window between when she was ready and when she was willing to sit on the thing.

So the plan here is to let him get used to it being around the home, let him sit on it and interact with it and then when he's ready to start dropping his trousers... hopefully the transition will be a bit quicker than with my daughter.

  • Would you watch the earth form from nothing to the current time for 500.000 $?
  • Maybe I could use that time to watch The West Wing? I've heard nothing but good things about it but...who's got the time.

  • Watching GoT yesterday and saw this.
  • Joking aside, the scene where Tywin schools Joff on how no true king needs to say that he's a king is peak GoT. Absolutely incredible writing, acting and production from all involved.

  • And so it begins.

It's been a fun four years since I last had to have these around the house....but alas it's time to bring the potty out once more.

Hopefully he takes to it as well as his sister. I am not confident.

[Weekly Thread] What We're Playing for April 8th 2024
  • I've spent my time continuing through, and then finishing my first run on the new Suzerain DLC.

Had a good time with it but I think it's maybe not as.. fully thought out as the games OG campaign was. That said, I'm definitely going back to it at some point because I made some frankly awful decisions and it all went wrong very quickly.

I was a bit worried about how well the Steamdeck would handle it but I actually found playing with the Decks touchpads to be preferable to the games gamepad mode.

  • [Weekly Thread] What We're Playing for April 8th 2024
  • I just wish the Fury part of Bowsers Fury was a little less all consuming. The little open world they constructed was great, but I found the constant interruption from Bowser to be a little grating after a while.

  • Would you watch the earth form from nothing to the current time for 500.000 $?
  • I dunno, I could spend a good long while playing nothing but Football Manager if I didn't have to worry about being anywhere else.

  • Handy guide for today's eclipse.

Although not very handy for me because I live in the midlands. I didn't want to see it anyway. Nope. Looks like another evening of sitting on social media and regretting my life choices. Sigh.

Would you watch the earth form from nothing to the current time for 500.000 $?
  • I mean, is this in real time because I won't lie, I bet there's an awful lot of 'boring' mixed in with all the amazing moments.

  • Have you replaced any British words with their American versions?

For example, switching out the word 'boot' for 'trunk', or ditching the word 'rubbish' for 'garbage'.

This is something I've noticed my 6 year old does pretty regularly. We went through a stage where 'sweets' became 'candy', 'holiday' became 'vacation' and 'courgette' became 'zucchini'.

That last one didn't happen but if you're still reading you've got my respect, or as the Americans might say '...mad props'.

[Weekly Thread] What We're Playing for April 8th 2024

Morning all. It's Monday morning which can mean but one thing....What have you been playing this last week?

    17

How do you balance playing with your kids and leaving them to play by themselves/with siblings?

This is something I've always struggled with and I think it's put my daughter in a spot where she's very reluctant to do anything by herself.

Don't get me wrong, she plays well with others and her younger brother, but when he's not available she basically just wants to play with me rather than going off on her own and playing by herself.

Now I don't mind, but I wouldn't mind a bit of...not playing time but also I'm worried it's going to affect her going down the line.

    Thoughts?

Finally. I have absolutely no idea who these guys are, but it's nice to be able to visualise them in the roles at least.

What film did you watch when you were too young, and how did it traumatize you?

Jurassic Park for me. I had an amazing JP jumper when I was like...maybe 6. It was far too big for me but I loved dinosaurs. Naturally this meant I wanted to watch the film because...well I'm 6 and it's got dinosaurs.

Ultimately I ended up watching it with my Mum and Dad. We got as far as the iconic T-Rex chase scene and I told them to turn it off. Didn't go near the film for another few years.

I've now got my own 6 year old. There's no scenario I could envisage where I even consider letting her watch a film as gory, tense and frightening as JP.

Hellblade 2, FPS and is it really important?

How are we feeling about this?

The game won't have a performance/quality mode at launch, but you will be allowed to tweak a little if you're playing on PC.

Now obviously it's not the worst thing in the world, and I'm sure many will be perfectly fine playing at 30, but I can't help but be disappointed by this news.

On a personal level I'll always go with the framerate over graphical fidelity; oftentimes the differences between the visuals in a quality mode just don't justify the loss of that smooth 60FPS, although I'm willing to grant that mileage may vary on that one.

I understand the constant want to improve visuals. They go a long way towards selling a game to it's audience, but I wish we'd gotten to a point where you could 1) have a conversation about the importance of FPS without appearing like a snob and 2) allow devs to prioritize 60FPS over graphical fidelity.

    So yeah???

So like, what absolutely ridiculous thing did you take to be fact when you were a kid?

As a small child I was absolutely convinced that people in the olden days lived their day to day lives in black and white, and that they walked slightly faster than we did today (assuming a frame rate thing?).

I'm gonna put this one down to my understanding of how TV worked as a ten year old. Everything before colour TV was black and white... therefore everything was black and white. Makes perfect sense.

    What about you?
