Not really about monero but here's a PDF of Hijacking Bitcoin just for you beautiful people :-)
  • Going through this book at the moment, it is very insightful. Don't steal it though, support people who are contributing to defi and wanting to build crypto economies!

A quote from the book that made me see the importance of the CCS and crowdfunding in general for Monero:

For most cryptocurrency projects, not just Bitcoin, developers call the shots. And notably, software developers don’t finance themselves. They have to get paid somehow. Therefore, the real power dynamics within a cryptocurrency projects are determined by how its software developers make decisions and get paid. The history of BTC is a cautionary tale of what happens when the incentives of developers become misaligned with the rest of the network.

  • Marketing Monero
  • "out of the box solution for business owners like a POS software or even a little hardware gadget." this was one reason I started Monero Master, was to help local businesses set up payments should they need assistance.

One thing I've been thinking of, let me know if you think it's a bad idea, is to create a "crypto tip" business card, the idea is that when tipping someone in the service industry you would first offer them crypto, when they say they don't have any you offer them a fiat cash tip and then hand them the card which has a QR code to a website that gives them a step by step guide on how to get set up. At that point, if you are local, you could say that if they serve you again in the future and you go to tip them in crypto you will double their tip.

"By the way, is the monero network even prepared for such a thing in terms of speed? " this is a good problem to have 😁

  • Marketing Monero
  • I agree, however, this can be rather challenging to communicate and convince people of due to the vast amount of social engineering people have been exposed to via centralized information systems.

Imo it's better to focus on the direct and immediate benefit to the individual as to encourage mass adoption. It will be much harder to pass and, more importantly, enforce laws that restrict/limit defi if more people are using Monero for legitimate and legal business.

  • Marketing Monero

Why should businesses use Monero? This question when answered will raise adoption objections of some kind.

If building a Monero circular economy requires the adoption and use of XMR payments from small and medium sized businesses, then potential objections must be preemptively addressed.

My background is in marketing. I've helped many small and large businesses grow and reach more users/customers.

The goal in presenting these insights with my unique experience in product/service adoption is to better equip you to persuade others to consider accepting Monero payments for their business.

    Read: https://moneromaster.substack.com/p/adoption-objections

Here is the TLDR: When overcoming Monero adoption objections it is important to not only address a particular concern but to focus on the overall solution Monero presents to businesses that are relevant to their personal experiences and challenges.

In some instances, Monero payment processing can be 43 times cheaper than fiat. Businesses have an opportunity to increase their profits should they readily and widely accept Monero over digital fiat payments.

Many are feeling the weight of inflation and the rise of corporate and government overreach through technology. Presenting Monero as a solution in this context is a great first step in encouraging Monero adoption.

The convenience of transacting with Monero should likewise be stressed when discussed in the context of international payments.

Monero users should be as friendly and helpful as possible in order to encourage others to consider the usefulness of Monero payment processing.

Introducing the Monero Circular Economy Pledge (MCEP)
  • Thanks for your input - this pledge does not exclude people working with Fiat, it's more so that they keep Fiat with Fiat and Monero with Monero.

Not all businesses will be able to do that and that's ok, some will have to limit the number of clients they take this way but it's still a good step to get the Monero culture moving in that direction 😁

  • Introducing the Monero Circular Economy Pledge (MCEP)

    !Image

This is an insignia to place on your website to build confidence with Monero buyers and businesses who want to develop a self-sustaining economy.

Businesses that use the MECP graphic:

🟠 Pledge to only use the profits of their Monero sales to purchase other products or services with Monero.

🟠 Pledge not to use exchanges to convert their Monero into a fiat currency.

🟠 Pledge to seek out and transact with other MCEP businesses where possible.

I'm currently creating a list of businesses that want to join this pledge. You can apply here: https://moneromaster.substack.com/p/mcep

How To Encrypt Your Mnemonic Seed Without A Computer/Internet
  • Hi Nihilist, I recently saw your Haveno demo on Monero Talk, good job! Thanks for contributing helpful resources to the community, we need more of this.

One thing I try to keep in mind is that if we get to a stage where governments are holding citizens in embassies without pressing charges for decades, arresting developers for "conspiracy" to commit crimes, etc. then plausible deniability is not really applicable anymore. Plausible deniability assumes courts are seeking justice instead of following orders.

I've recently been studying the GULAG system of the USSR and it's amazing how everyone knew that their mock trials were a show and that the vast majority of people in the forced labor camps were innocent. The good news is that these types of systems can never endure any significant longevity. Compare the length and legacy of the USSR to the Roman Empire and it's a laughable comparison.

That being said, your suggestion for a decoy is a good system to implement for added security indeed. Thanks for sharing Veracrypt, I was not aware of this particular encryption method. I'll need to compile a list of other encryption systems for people to investigate if they want something more complex/robust as I've received a lot of feedback about this.

It might also be worth considering creating a dummy seed that is kept in a safe, so if a thief was to break in and access it you would have misdirected them from your true seed hidden in another location.

  • How To Encrypt Your Mnemonic Seed Without A Computer/Internet
  • Great idea! yes throwing in random and arbitrary letters can strengthen the encryption. Something I was thinking about was replacing spaces with "-[random text]-"

    Example:

    sdfsdf-iuocbff-oiurwqx-afewef-gupioue

So the true encrypted text would be sdfsdf oiurwqx gupioue with -iuocbff- -afewef- representing spaces.

  • Thanks, glad you found something useful in it.

I'm not sure, I'll have to look into polyseed. I guess the over all point is to take elements of this and make it your own :)

My key focus, as you pointed out, was not to use any third-party software or technology. Trying to think of a "worst case scenario" that provides decent encryption while also only needing a memorisation of a short password and a pen/paper. You could write out the Vigenère Table by hand if you really wanted to.

Next, in this line of thinking, I'll do something on the Playfair Code which was used by the British during the Boer War and by German spies during WWII

Step-by-step guide using Vigenère Polyalphabetic Ciphers to encrypt your Mnemonic Seed and prepare it for steganography.

    Hi folks,

As of April 2024, the UK police and National Crime Agency were granted new powers to confiscate and destroy cryptocurrency assets, passwords, or hardware wallets without making an arrest:

    >Police will no longer be required to make an arrest before seizing crypto from a suspect … items that could be used to give information to help an investigation, such as written passwords or memory sticks, can be seized

Whether this will be used to tackle legitimate crime or as an arbitrary blanket procedure to prosecute law-abiding individuals who are concerned about financial privacy is yet to be seen.

What remains is a need for extra precautions to safeguard your Monero.

This is one system that I’ve used and that I want to share with the community.

    Thanks
