Is open SUSE Blocked on Cuba?
  • The commercial blockade of US states that any product with even a small percentage (there is a minimal required number which I don't remember) of anything produced in the US, even if that thing is the technology for building the thing, cannot be traded with Cuba or DRPK and I'm not sure if the Venezuelans one is still up

  • Is open SUSE Blocked on Cuba?
  • By what it seems they put it there more as a way to reduce liability, in case the US comes a looking, because it does not describe any tools or measures to prevent it, in fact it even states that it is not geoblocked anywhere

PS: forgive my ignorance, I thought that any fedora based distro, would be considered downstream of Fedora if that's not the case what would be the actual definition of downstream? Honestly asking here, just wanna understand better

  • Is open SUSE Blocked on Cuba?
  • Oh I sure I could but I like suse a bit and if it is not true that it blocks distribution I wouldnt reconsider using it, and would still feel alright recommending it when it suits the needs of the person in question, but the lack of an equivalent legal page on suse's site, left me unsure of where to look for that information

  • Is open SUSE Blocked on Cuba?
  • Sure but I do enjoy the idea of rolling release and I don't want to handle the potential conflicts from AUR with native repositories, I also like yast, and I feel a little annoyed with the implication of your comment, unless I'm mistaken, in which case I apologize, it seems that you're implying that my choice of open suse is poorly thought through therefore I should consider changing.

  • Is open SUSE Blocked on Cuba?

So I saw on this post the upsetting information that fedora is blocked on cuba, and I Wanted to check if the same was true of the downstream distributions, in particular open SUSE tumbleweed, as well.

Edit: By what it seems they put it there more as a way to reduce liability(once the us trade embargoes seem to include most anything with US developed technology, although I do not understand that very well or if it does apply to open source stuff), in case the US comes a looking, because it does not describe any tools or measures to prevent it, in fact it even states that it is not geoblocked anywhere.

  • I'm pretty sure Brazil either did not make a stance about it or should be yellow, cause it didn't pick a side even in the Ukrainian war, I couldn't see it picking up a firm position right now

  • Comrades positions on Furr's "Khrushchev lied "
  • So, just to see I understood correctly, in your analysis the book is moslty solid with maybe an overzealous defense of Stalin in a few points, and the text I found does bring up said overzealousness but it engages in some pointless hair splitting that sounds a lot like angry padding, is it?

  • Comrades positions on Furr's "Khrushchev lied "

I recently stumbled on take on the Khrushchev Lied https://mltoday.com/khrushchev-lied-but-what-is-the-truth/

And I wanted to know if this makes sense or am I missing something and what is known about the stances of Grover Furr

    Am I Elitist?
  • I kinda mean capitalism or the systems it creates to shape ideas and society, my focus was on the fact that the issue is much bigger then the people around our comrade rather than making an accurate analysis of the actual responsibles are for the fenomenon

  • Am I Elitist?
  • I'll try to be as concise as I can, no promises though.

So in the first hand your anger is actually to the engines of the system, the way your friends think is consequence of said system, to think that their way of thinking is cruel is to put on their hands a lot of the syatem's blame. Because thinking like us is hard causes some isolation, sadness frustration, so even people who kinda stumble with this way of thinking are highly disincentivised of engaging with it, and conforming to the social norm is so freaking comforting, that is no wonder that they prefer that.

So secondly I'd say that if you have friends that don't hate you for being a communist, that's already a lot, and you need friends and personal connections and not everything should be about furthering the revolution sometimes having fun about dumb shit is not just nice, but actually necessary, so I'd recommend to focus on the common ground you have with your friends, enjoy their company and if and when one of them expresses sincere curiosity and/or interest in what you believe you talk things over and show why you don't like this and like that, but be very aware that they will most likely then not take a lot of misinformation as fact about communism and capitalism, so sometimes making a single tiny point and showing, kindly, all the reasons you believe in it (contesting the misinformation and mentioning your sources, Dessalines is your friend here) might be better than covering a large range of subjects, of which most of them they'll have reasons to distrust it because of misinformation.

So about being concise, not that sucessful, but I hope I helped.

  • I love boiling babies, yum yum
  • As comrade transcendentalempire said, a big part of the argument put forward makes sense, quite a few of the premises hold up, Deng fucked shit up quite a bit, but the recent direction that xi is setting are much more hopeful and where I think it gets dishonest is the implications that current day China is equivalent to Deng's China, which I don't believe it to be, recently China gave a lot of support to the DRPK, and its striving(with the help of the BRICS) to lift the commercial blockades against Cuba and Venezuela. So yeah China did some backtracking on the long struggle towards the ultimate goals but to think that everything China does is capitalism in disguise is absolutely untrue. The part that makes me so sad is how close we are with people who think things like this, like I know the points we disagree makes our lines incompatible, but a lot of what we think to he and good thing and a bad thing is similar, and it breaks my heart to see such a rift (at times quite hostile one) between us, it is a sad issue that needs tending to, although the solution seems quite elusive

  • Do you think that lacking material conditions under captalism is what prevents many people from getting into relationships or finding partners and or friends in general?
  • Absolutely, but one factor that is overlooked on the matter of romantic relationships is the manufacturing of unreasonable beauty standards, especially of women, most men are looking for a "trophy" wife, and that limits much of the people who they look for to begin with, or reduces the motivation to start because they feel that "lowering their standards" is a failure so why even bother?

So I think that it is a cumulative pile of factors that reaches that point, by the side of women toxic masculinity, regular systemic misogyny, in particular domestic abuse, could probably play a factor on the issue too.

Other things are as I believe you mentioned, the tendency of capitalism to individualize peoples lives and for sure not having the means to go out and do things that are viewed as couples things like dinning out going to the movies, or going to the bar,or equivalent, with your friends as well, and the fact that being broke makes you put most of your energy into not being broke, and the rest of it into managing how to.survive on such few resources
