Do you think it is safe and secure to disable Mitigation in Fedora for the sake of performance?
  • It depends on how importent security is for that system and how devestating it would be if someone else got control over it and all accounts and devices connected to it.

Assuming there are sucessful exploits it would be like running everything as root and disabling all sandbox/isolation features from the kernel and browsers. I'd say you should not connect such a machine to the internet.

  • It's only self evident if you accept your own morality is subjective. There are people who think morality is defined by some invisible friend who is right about absolutly everything.

  • You can request to take over the existing package if it's broken (-git packages tend to pull the latest version, so don't fix it if it isn't broken).

You are not expected to maintain it forever. However you should make it a -git package if you do not intend to update it on every upstream release, so it stays up to date without changes to the PKGBUILD.

  • Do you use xorg or wayland?
  • I'm using Wayland with AMD onboard grapgics (Ryzen) and it works like a charm. Sway (/wlroots) and gnome both have full featured compositors out there for years now and I'm looking forward to giving Plasma 6 a try as well (also I'm sceptical since Plasma 5 drove me away with it's instability at least when it was released).

Overall font rendering, screen sharing (selecting single windows or displays to share), WebGL (in browser camera effects) and switching monitors work better than when I last used XOrg about 3-4 years ago.
