  • They can recognize faces actually. They know you from other people. My wife and I had one living in our lamp between our recliners for about 6 months. They're super awesome.

  • What is the worst thing your parents ever did to you?
  • Mom divorced my abusive alcoholic father and married a man from England. I was 14 but she figured I had the maturity to know it would be ok if I stayed with him instead of moving to England with her and my brother. I was angry at her because I was 14 and dumb. She left me in the US and gave me no end of guilt for making my choice once a grew up a bit and realized I made a mistake. Once she and her husband moved back to Oklahoma I took a position in California and now I'm guilted for that at the age of 42 because she can't see my daughter whom she never bothered to spend anytime with anyway because of her constant depression about having married another different kind of abusive man.

  • The legality of owning a flamethrower by state
  • Lol nice. I got banned once I found out about Lemmy. After that I simply went to a thread which had a particularly shitty power mod and literally just said, "sounds like something a cringe reddit person would say".

    Boom. Permanent admin ban.

  • People often point to the terrible things in the world as evidence we're living in "the worst timeline". What examples are there of things that suggest our timeline is actually better than it seems?
  • I'm sitting in my air conditioned house, watching not one, but 2 HD screens, one of which is playing cheers because I love that show and I can watch it all I want anytime I want. The other is my phone which is a absolute miracle of human achievement allowing me access to the sum of the worlds knowledge which I'm currently using to look at funny shit that amuses me. Also I didn't move a finger to say any of that. I just said it and it typed it for me, correcting most of my mistakes. And you, who are reading this, might be literally anywhere on this planet right now. I also used my phone to order my food which was promptly brought to my home for my enjoyment.

The world certainly has a lot of shit aspects but on the whole, we are living in amazing times right now for those of us fortunate enough to be in a safe country.

  • Why don’t a lot of people use generics?
  • Name brands only matter to me when it comes to chips, soda, cereal bars (like nutri-grain), and shampoo. Maybe some others I'm not thinking of. But drugs are def not on that list. The only time I ever requested name brand drugs was when I got a script for Klonopin I didn't need back when I was an addict and only because I thought it would be cool to have the pills with the little K cut out of the middle, because like I said, addict.

    The Signal (2007)

The Signal is a full mind bender of a movie. If you haven't seen it or heard of it, go in blind. It's not a pleasant movie but any means, but a fantastic independent psychological thriller. One of my favorites.

Movie synopsis ::: spoiler Movie synopsis Mya (Anessa Ramsey) and Ben (Justin Welborn) are very much in love, but she cannot quite find the courage to leave her awful husband, Lewis (A.J. Bowen). However, when a mysterious transmission starts turning people, including Lewis, into murderous maniacs, the lovers must go on the run :::

    Dogma (720p) (1999)

Two fallen angels who were ejected from paradise find themselves banned in Wisconsin. They are now headed for New Jersey where they find a loophole that can get them back into heaven. The only catch is that it will destroy humanity. A group bands together to stop them.

Because Harvey Weinstein's not only a creep but a total POS, there's no way to stream this movie on any streaming services and it's beyond Kevin Smith's control at this point. But it's definitely one of his funnier films though may not be everybody's cup of tea. But, if you like Kevin Smith, definitely watch this. Probably won't be up long but, who knows?

    The Tommyknockers

Very cheesy movie from the Stephen King book but very thorough as far as adapting a 24 hour book into a movie. I believe it was a TV special when it came out. I've always loved this movie.

What football will look like in the future

This is one of my favorites, it's an interactive reading experience sort of, but it works on mobile as well as desktop and it is really not what the title makes it sound like. It's quite an amazing read. Maybe a little too long for this place but thought I'd share! Let me know if you like it! There's a sequel as well!

    Sacramento @lemmy.world KingJalopy @lemm.ee

Moving to Sacramento in February or March from Oklahoma for work

I know this is a small community (here on lemmy) but I was wondering what is a good area to live there? We will make about 115k or so and are looking to rent the first year or 2. I have an 8 year old daughter and a wife. We are coming from Tulsa Oklahoma but are very left leaning. We love to hike and spend time outdoors. Def want a nice school for my daughter. Thanks for any advice!
