10 falcons were hacked atop U.S. Bank building in 1989. What became of them?

Curious Iowa: What happened to downtown Cedar Rapids’ peregrine falcons?

Good article that gives a nod to how falconers were integral in the Peregrine Falcons recovery. Falconers were a big contributor to the captive bred population and many released birds with no compensation.

Do you know how much even a low-end perch costs?
  • I'm a falconer, this is true for the US. But you are able to have a bird as an apprentice. But ya, the quickest I've seen someone go from nothing to bird was like 10 months. In some countries like the UK you can just go buy a bird. I would not recommend it but it is legal.

  • Ya, like $100 for a staked bow perch. You'll really want a block for a falcon though, those are a bit more. Custom turned blocks are several hundred bucks. A lot of people make their own though for much cheaper. Affixing some AstroTurf onto a plant pot gets you 80% of the way there.

How my falconry went last December (Warning: bunny screams)

Disclaimer: video shows hawks catching rabbits and rabbits scream when that happens. A lot of people find this very off putting.

Flying a cast of 2 male 1 female harris hawks. Added the juvenile male this season and he is coming into his own but the older male doesn't like him :(

Wife slightly impulse bought a harris hawk and we're spending this weekend getting the other birds used to him so we can all fly together.
