Suppose you had a Star Trek replicator that had some extra obvious features, like being able to interpolate between any existing items (e.g. "halfway between a strawberry and a blueberry").
  • Not chocolate milk, but good milk chocolate. I’m not going to put a chocolate bar in a blender, and nobody else should try, either.

  • Car owners are frustrated with infotainment confusion, so GM is taking away the most popular solutions
  • Ditto. CarPlay actually works, and works well. It’s clean, simple, and easy to use. The buttons are big enough and clear enough to use while driving, which is supposed to be the point.

CarPlay wouldn’t have been necessary in the first place if auto manufacturers were any good at software design - but they’re NOT. I’ve driven cars without CarPlay. The interfaces are trash. GM forcing people to use a shitty interface because they don’t want to license a good one is a terrible, terrible idea. I have absolutely zero faith in their ability to do the job right. I won’t even consider a car that isn’t compatible with CarPlay.

  • Tesla plans to license its Full Self-Driving system to other automakers
  • Why are they allowed to call it “full self driving” in the first place? The name implies that it can operate with zero driver intervention, which it most definitely cannot.

Isn’t it false advertising to call the system “full self driving”? If not, why not?

  • Did Universal Studios Engage in Malicious Tree Trimming?
  • Trimming the trees is almost clever… but not nearly clever enough to make people forget the petty nastiness, unnecessary cruelty, and deliberate creation of a health hazard. If I didn’t already side with the picketers, this would be enough to do it.

  • Mod's response shortly after the blackout
  • The fact that this person is hurt and angry, but still considerate of others, only makes me sympathize with them more. This could have been a venting tirade, or pathetic tantrum, but wasn’t. I hope they find something new that makes them happy.

  • Milk chocolate and peach, with a creamy consistency. Then I’d try substituting other fruits, like kiwi, strawberry, cherry, and orange.

  • how is this so accurate?
  • Maybe I’m a dork, but I think“correlation does not equal causation” is actually a good thing to keep in mind.

I’m reminded of it every time a news story says something is “linked” to something else. I hate it when the word “linked” is used in this way. It’s often lazy journalism and/or a scare tactic. Saying that two things are “linked” implies a stronger relationship than may actually exist. I find it deliberately misleading.

You didn’t think, either, dumbass. This is what happens when you live in an echo chamber and don’t even try to learn about the issues.

“There was nobody looking after it or telling us, they forgot about the people abroad."

Oh, the irony. You wanted to make immigration harder, and you were thinking about “people abroad” then. Don’t worry, Joe. You won’t be forgotten again. I’m sure people are sending you thoughts and prayers.

  • Switching between accounts on different instances doesn’t seem to do anything

I have accounts on several instances. When I seemingly switch between instances (using the drop-down menu at the top of the screen), the posts remain the same. For example, posts stickied by mods on Beehaw will still be visible when I switch to lemmy.world. My profile won’t be visible, either.

Apologies, I don’t know how to report bugs. Is this a known issue? Is the answer something obvious that I can fix myself? Do I even report bugs here? Do you need more information? Please excuse my ignorance, and THANK YOU for a great app (which I’m using right now)!

Is it possible to hide individual posts?

I see how to block specific users or entire communities, but not how to hide individual posts. Is this even an option? There are some posts which don’t apply to me, and I don’t want to see anymore, but I don’t want to block the user or community.
