Just bought a Jackson SL5X Soloist. First guitar I've bought in almost 20 years. What would be a nice practice amp for a small house? Don't need anything overly loud or powerful
  • If you have a cab already I like the 6505mh and DSL1 mini heads. The 6505MH is a high gain beast. Cleans are usable but nothing special.

DSL1 benifits from a boost for metal tones imo. Cleans are decent. delay/reverb sounds good through the fx loop

Jet City combos can be cheap. Some of those amps are Soldano inspired. Sound pretty heavy but can be best to boost with an OD pedal.

Then there are modelers like the katana. It's well regarded and is very versatile will chug for days. Might be able to get one for that price if your lucky

  • Looking for a new sound and can’t quite land anywhere
  • What sort of music would you be playing?

If your playing heavier music styles you'd benefit from using something with humbucker pickups. I'd recommend something like PRS SE, Ibanez, Charvel, Les Paul. All very different guitars but they are very capable of heavey tones.
