I somehow broke my Debian bookworm install…
  • Honestly kicking myself for not having this setup on my last Linux install

Good news is it's setup on my current install

  • In some regions in my world there's a distinct amount of racism so some places have outlawed different people to different degrees.

For example one city outlawed Goblinoids within their city limits. Another nearby city had a curfew for Goblinoids vs outright banning their presence within their city limits.

There's quite a a bit that can be said about quite a bit by what restrictions exist in your world and the hardships people can face.

Edit: or is that just me? Though it has gotten easier since getting a diagnosis and developing strategies to deal with my ADHD.

  • Does it make sense to get an ADHD diagnosis if I already have an ASD diagnosis?
  • Getting the diagnosis could open up treatment options for ADHD that could make dealing with other aspects of life easier overall

  • Alternative Printer Uses
  • It was a very long day that started with a nice easy plan that quickly turned into "Which POS part is preventing this thing from working"

Fun fact it was the motherboard. Though it wasn't a consistent issue sometimes it was RAM failing, sometimes it was pcie not working, sometimes it was networking not working, etc. After swapping the motherboard everything worked beautifully.

Yes we tried reseating the CPU, yes we checked for bent pins, yes we made sure the cables were secure. Something was fucky with the motherboard.

  • Alternative Printer Uses
  • I've used mine for a lot of stuff really

Weaken adhesive for opening a cell phone (like your picture)

Revive a Nexus 5X long enough to patch it and transfer the data off of it (a really frustrating process BTW)

Heat treat resin prints (place print in box, set box on bed, set bed to 80C, come back in an hour, turn bed off, wait for it to hit ambient, remove box) this process is great for hollowed prints as not only will it cause and trapped alcohol to evaporate out but it will further cure the part and increase the durability of the part as well (CNC Kitchen has a great vid on it)

  • With the new Apple silicon going on it's killing Hackintosh by literally having non-Apple silicon going to be no longer supported.

So basically the EoL date for a Hackintosh is when Apple goes EoL on non-Apple silicon with their OS.

  • AMD officially confirms no more Windows 10 chipset driver and support for the new Ryzen AI 300 series

  • This year I actually found a combination of allergy meds that works for me (yes combination, 1 just doesn't do it for me)

It's straight up bliss not having to wear a face mask for a couple months just to not die

Edit: Yes I consulted my doctor before doing multiple at a time. In fact the 2 I'm taking right now (Allegra and Flonase) were the 2 they recommended I try together.

  • People who have installed Linux on their parents computer, how did it go? Which distro do you recommend? Any tips?
  • I installed Linux Mint on my Mom's and Grandma's PCs as it's one I use for most of mine. They took to it like a duck to water.

My Mom has a little bit of growing into it as she plays a lot of videogames (literally more than I do lol) but it's been smooth sailing.

My Grandma primarily does stuff in her browser so for her it was more of a new skin for her PC.

My Mom is running a system with a R5 1600 and a RX 580 and my Grandma is running a Intel Broadwell CPU (I can't remember which kind with integrated graphics.

To get my Grandma into Linux required some prep before hand teaching her about doing all of her office stuff in her browser because she was rude or die on Microsoft Office. Now she's ride or die for Google's office suite (not perfect but primarily painless for me).

For my Mom it was pretty simple after she started getting pop-ups to upgrade to Windows 11 and then being told her system doesn't support it. Also her finding out that Windows 10 was going EoL in 2025 really helped.

  • I only had a couple programs holding me: Fusion 360 and Windows 3D Builder.

Then I found out there's a functional snap pack for Fusion 360. Now I just have to come up with a solution for Windows 3D Builder.

And the reason I use Windows 3D Builder is for 1 feature: it's model repair function is far and away the best I've used for broken 3D models.

  • Based PhysicsDuck [Rule]

I recently watched a video from the YouTuber Chris Boden (PhysicsDuck) and saw an unhinged comment in the comment section that he replied to. I thought his reply was great so I felt like sharing.

Start image description: A YouTube comment section with a comment with the username censored and a reply from the YouTuber PhysicsDuck.

The comment reads: What is with the gay pride?! Im so sick of seeing this everywhere. Why is it necessary to shove this down everyones throat? Unsubbed!

The reply from PhysicsDuck: What are you on about? Are you ok? Do you smell toast?

There’s nothing in the entire video that is in any manner gay. I’m a nerdy middle aged straight white dude talking about how we measure the diameter of wire and cable, and you’re having a homoerotic existential crisis? Really?

Am I just that overpoweringly attractive to you that you can’t fight these feelings anymore and have to ragequit the channel while screaming about “gay” and how necessary it is to have something shoved down your throat?

Because, while I'm not gay, I’ve got a LOT of family, friends, and viewers who are every imaginable fabulous fruity flavour of sparkly awesome you can imagine, and I’m sure that one of them would be happy to help you fulfill your fantasy, if you ask nicely.

It’s ok, no judgement or kinkshaming here. Come out of the closet, it’s too damn crowded in there anyways.

I love you, just the way you are.

    Good luck.

    End image description.

Folders and files sorted skipping preceding underscores?

I'm in the process of switching my machines to Linux Mint from Windows and on my network drive I have a bunch of folders that are sorted with the help of preceding underscores (like this "__folder1" "___folder2")) so that folders appear in a specific order.

When my Mint machines access the drive they sort by the first letter skipping the underscores and I'd really like to have that functionality back rather than having to rename a bunch of folders to try to sort them again. (I'd like to avoid a preceding 'A' workaround if possible as there's a bunch of folders)

Any suggestions? A setting I'm missing (very likely) or something?

Edit: The more I look the more it looks like I'm going to have to make a custom locale to be able to get the sorting I want from the default Mint file manager.

Recommendations for grass Tufts for mini bases

I'm wanting to add grass Tufts to my mini bases as my bases are boring AF currently (typically primer grey with some paint splashes from the minis feet lol)

I've got Vallejo Ground Texture stuff (dark earth brown, grey pumice, and a sand brown) that I'm going to be using on some bases for some bases but I'm feeling little grass tufts would add a lot to liven them up.

So recommendations for what kinds of grass would be awesome as I'm pretty lost looking at them.

Colorblindness and editing in Lightroom (or other software)

So I've got a bit of color blindness going on (a bit blue and yellow, a bit more red and green (not to mention some colors are painful but that's a different story lol)) and I had a question about editing pictures to show what different colorblindness looks like. My friends keep asking me how I see things and I'd love to show them.

I've been editing pictures for years but I'd say I still have a lot to learn in the color grading and color space departments (not like it's easy for me lol)

Any tips would be greatly appreciated. I primarily use Lightroom but I've been learning Dark Table recently. So either would be fine.

    Female Streaked Horned Lark [OC]

I took this pic while on vacation to South East Oregon (specifically a place called Lake Abert) using my Lumix G9 and my 100mm - 300mm lens at the full 300mm and f/5.6.

I was really happy that of all the critters I saw that day this one sat still long enough for me to get a decent shot.

This little bird chilled for quite awhile singing away which was pretty cool.

Mt St Helens Moon Lit [OC]

I took this picture on the last day of a not long enough vacation this month. I was really happy with how the moon had just enough light to give the shape of the mountain some contrast and how the wispy clouds cought the light from various sources.

I took this with my Lumix G9 with a 25mm f/1.7 lens, a 15 second exposure, and the iso set to 1600.

I had taken quite a few shots with the intent of stacking them but those attempts just didn't come out feeling like it did to be there. This shit though captured that feeling IMO.

I can't wait to give My Adams the same treatment later this year.
