[DISCUSSION] Foundation S02E08 - The Last Empress (Spoilers)
  • I'm a massive fan of the books, and it took me a while to accept the abomination this show is. But once I accepted this is a completely different tv series with only a loose resemblance to the books, I started to actually enjoy it.

If they'd just called it something else I'd have been fine with it.

It's not foundation but it's also not that bad. It's not that good either, but good tv is hard to come by

  • The difference of stealing yourself vs being stolen from
  • I'd guess unknown means whatever was used to record this information couldn't determine the os (so it's probably linux lol), whereas the other category is probably BSD and the like.

Just a guess though, I have no idea

  • Appreciation post for Liftoff not collecting user data or injecting ads.
  • search engines, smartphones, navigations, personal AI assistants and social networks created by big tech companies

I use duckduckgo, a degoogled lineage os phone, openstreetmaps, no AI assistant whatsoever, and I'm writing this on a federated social media network created by some guy called Dessalines.

Yes, if something collects data I'm going to say 'oh no'

  • Android users who don't use the stock launcher - what launcher do you use, and what do you like about it?
  • Agree 100%. This also applies for simple things like calculator apps, calendars, photo galleries, everything.

I remember seeing a list of required permissions and terms of service for the stock calculator app on a xiaomi phone and it was as long as your arm.

    Insane.

Personal recommendation for a launcher available on f-droid (I think via the izzyondroid repo, but maybe the default repo because I can't remember) is thr highly customisable NeoLauncher

  • [Discussion] Cluster munitions to Ukraine, Wagner game plan, Attacks on Moscow and Russian endgame for SMO
  • I'm just some guy, not any kind of military expert, and I get my news from all over the place so please don't treat any of what I'm saying as anything other than some guy on the internet talking shit.

For your first question, the cluster munitions seem to be allowing Ukraine to continue its counteroffensive because it and the west as a whole has largely run out of regular artillery ammunition. There was a video a while back where Biden answered a reporter's question about why the us was sending cluster bombs, and biden just said point blank 'we've run out of ammunition'. So as far as I can tell it's not any kind of game changing weapon, but it does allow Ukraine to continue attacking the Russian defensive lines. From what I can tell, and I try to stay at least moderately up to date with what's happening in the actual war itself, Ukraine's counteroffensive has so far been a total failure. They've captured a negligible amount of territory and suffered heavy losses of both human beings and military equipment.

For your second question about the Wagners, I've no idea about the passport stuff but my best guesses as to what they're doing in Belarus are as follows: They're there as a potential counterweight to any polish or other non-Ukrainian Nato forces that might enter the battlefield; They're there to threaten Ukrainian forces with the possibility that another front might be opened in the war from the north; They're there to actually open another front in the war from the north; all of the above.

For your third question, I expect Russia to just keep doing what they've been doing.

And for your final question, my best guess is that this is going to continue for several years
