I’m on day 3 of bad DOMS, can I work out today
  • If it's DOMS, you're pretty much always safe to work out again. Your range of motion might be limited to start, so you absolutely must start slow, but it is good to move. DOMS gets worse immediately when you stop moving, and improves significantly once you've moved around and keep moving. Active recovery like walking, yoga, some other dynamic stretching routine, etc.

  • When did you start playing?
  • I went to a computer camp for a few years, and the brothers who ran it were in one of the high end guilds on their server. A lot of us were immediately obsessed...I remember going home after the first week and begging my parents to buy the game for me.

Got away from it in late high school and college, but I started on p99 during the pandemic.

  • What keeps you going to the gym?
  • I wasn't consistent for a long time. I recently started back, because I know that it's all down hill from here and if I want to continue my streak of never having broken a bone, I need to get lifting.

  • Democrats Introduce Bill to Ban Conversion Therapy Nationwide
  • Real talk, it has less to do with gay people themselves.

But they spent decades making homosexuality the unspeakable boogieman. And now people are out there not just living their lives, but proud of who they are.

The fear from the right is, "If they can be out there living like that, why will my flock continue to believe me when I demand that wives be subservient to their husbands, sex only for procreation, etc.?"

It's about control. Quashing LGBTQ+ folks less easy now, so they're going after an even smaller group of trans people specifically, hoping that it will fragment the backlash and let them re-assert their doctrines.

  • On bringing more users to Lemmy
  • I've just been blocking meme communities as I see them.

Any new service will be the same. You have to spend some energy filtering to get the content you want, because we all want to produce and consume different things. And that's good!

I'm also blocking city and regional communities that have no impact on me.

  • Why can’t we fall asleep on command?
  • Sleep now is a lot more difficult than sleep 100 years ago.

Light matters. Blue light from computer screens has been tied to sleep issues. The theory is that it mimics certain bandwidths of sunlight that our eyes are primed to read as "daytime, get up and start moving."

Hydration and food matters. You need to be in a good state but shouldn't consume much right before bed.

Exercise matters. A lot of people have trouble sleeping if they move around a lot before bed. Since we have electric lights and can stay up very late doing stuff, it's hard for your body to know it's time to start winding down.

Best solution I've found: no caffeine after noon, consistent bed schedule (both going to sleep and waking up), black out curtains and/or sleep mask, earplugs/earbuds/brown noise track, and stop using screens an hour or two before bedtime.

  • DeSantis asks federal judge to dismiss Disney suit, claiming broad immunity
  • Because rural voters have spent decades dialed in to talk radio, their pastor, and more recently cable news. They talk each other around in circles, obfuscating the actual issues, and any time a real issue does creep into the discussion, they lay blame at the out group who has historically had no power in their communities.

You can't appeal to the best interests of rural voters because rural voters themselves have no idea what to care about until the man on TV tells them how to say it to piss off "liberals."

  • LastPass users locked out (again) with infinite 2FA loop
  • The change was LastPass messing around with their membership options.

I had LastPass for years. I eventually decided to pay for it. Then they decided to remove premium all together...only to add it back by taking away features. One of those features was being able to use both mobile and web.

I opted for mobile, because I always have my phone with me, and the app has biometric unlock, whereas web does not.

But you can't save and export your LastPass via mobile. Has to be web. So I had to switch that. And I'm just now getting to a point where I can transfer.

  • This is the entrance to the cafeteria in a US school. Absolute fuck you to the students if you ask me.
  • 100%.

Research based education standards are light-years away from what we choose to do, because what we choose to do is based on 19th century attempts to industrialize. Meaning getting kids used to being away from extended family, stuck in a seat for hours, rote memorization, and regurgitation of whatever you're told.

  • Should I quit my job?
  • This. And you can move closer if you intend to keep this job and have a pretty good feeling that they won't fire you. Especially if you're currently renting, just look at closer rentals when your lease is coming up.

  • Wagner Boss Says He’s En Route to Moscow and ‘Ready to Die’ With 25,000 Fighters
  • Ultimately, it doesn't matter who wins or loses this battle. Either way, Ukraine wins.

Wagner was the only Russian force I regularly saw succeeding in the headlines. Without them bolstering the Russian military and in fact detracting from and wasting the resources of the Russian military, the whole house of cards is going to start falling.

  • Juste received this love letter from reddit's admins
  • It's not tone deaf so much as it's gaslighting. Their intention isn't to get compliance or work through any of the valid concerns - their intention seems to be to cover themselves and give plausible deniability for potential investors.

They're sending this to mods as if they are the audience, which we know is not the case since anything the mods say is not actually considered.

  • I can't believe how sycophants some people are.
  • I don't really trust anyone so deep into a fandom that their primary content consumption and creation is a fan specific meme sub. Their primary thing is engaging with that specific content, and anything that gets in the way is going to be attacked.

  • Google is getting a lot worse because of the Reddit blackouts
  • Agreed. But it's a nice reminder that these huge companies that get money by renting out our eyeballs actually provide very little content - just the platform we happen to be stuck with for the time being.

  • Gov. Abbott signs bill eliminating mandatory vehicle inspections in Texas
  • The thing is, cops aren't mechanics, so leaving it up to them to decide if someone they pulled over is driving a "safe" vehicle doesn't make sense.

Until, of course, I remembered that they don't need to be right to use their power against people they don't like.
