Winamp for desktop source code has been released.
  • I'll just mention QMMP which is basically a Winamp clone. Works great and I've used it for many years now.

  • What are your favorite shows and why?
  • More recent ones that are really good:

Barry, a show about a murderer that turns out to be really funny.

Snowfall, about drug dealers making it to kingpins. A similar show, Queen of the South is also good.

And some classics that are funny and clever enough to rewatch:

Keeping up Appearances, I think we all know some of these characters in real life

    Flight of the Conchords

  • What is it like seeing ads on Youtube?
  • In the last week, I came across 2 videos that started with an ad. Both were embedded YouTube videos. They must have found a way to circumvent adblocking.

It's loud and annoying and I don't have the patience for this. I just didn't watch those videos.

  • Almost 1 in 4 millennials and Gen Z-ers say they won't have kids due to finances
  • Many people my age have terrible boomer parents who just had kids because "that's just what you do". They didn't even consider you could just not make babies.

Maybe we just think more for ourselves than the older generation.

  • how do I accept I'll never know why any employer rejected me?
  • You're out of touch. Employers don't want overqualified people. They are the ones that decide for you that you can't possibly be motivated for such a job. You'll only leave when you find something better they think, which is definitely true when you claim to just "bridge the gap".

  • Plasma freezes during high disk activity
  • Happened to me as well, freezing up the whole system, especially with many/large files. None of the suggestions I found online actually worked. Happened on USB drives as well.

Then my whole HD gave up completely. Replaced it and all problems are gone. USB drives as well: turns out Linux at least tries to read it so you can attempt to save some data, while Windows just says it's unreadable.

  • Anyone has been using Wayland with zero issues?
  • I tried it on a new Lenovo (AMD). The cursor size changed its size from normal to microscopic, depending on the application you hover over. Went back to X, no issues there.

Still can't run Wayland on my system (Nvidia) at all.

  • Incidentally I just installed a new laptop that came with windows yesterday and damn, windows 11 sucks.

First you have to find a workaround to install without a MS account, then the default Bing search tells you to install Opera when you search for Firefox, I can't find any settings (everything is a regedit hack now) and then I found a debloat script that claims it disabled Recall. So yeah it can be disabled (for now).

  • Don't believe what you read. Fmovies is absolutely fine.
  • Nice. Are they official or just a copy? My old login no longer works.

  • Living under Christianity means living in constant fear of being watched and judged and living in a world full of supernatural forces. It was a great relief when I realized it's all bullshit.

  • Doomist or realist? Meet the scientist who says the climate collapse has already begun
  • It's behind a paywall.

But doesn't it seem pretty obvious we're already fucked?

  • Reading habits in Europe
  • "Less than 5 books" includes 0 books? Otherwise those stats are hard to believe.

  • What happened to Kcalc
  • Just tried it and it's annoying. Also the calculation line doesn't follow the font settings.

I'm normally using Albert Launcher to calculate, similar to krunner, it works better.

  • No thanks. I'm good.
  • Yes, it tastes a bit earthy to me.

  • No thanks. I'm good.
  • I got a tour of the place where they proudly show these cats in the most horrible conditions. Also, it doesn't even taste good.

  • Why do radio stations all seem to go on commercial at the same time?
  • I remember always switching to another channel when ads came up, but later that became impossible because they all started ads at the same time. So it seems to be on purpose to prevent people from switching channels. This was in the Netherlands, though I haven't listened to radio anymore since Napster came out.

  • What features and/or technologies would u like to see in a web browser ?
  • ftp

It's crazy that Firefox was good with ftp until they just decided to not support it anymore 😕

  • Lemmings, which communities are you blocking?
  • Checking my blocklist makes me wish communities could be blocked on category.

It's mostly football, F1, sports, anime, porn but also star trek.

  • ‘This year has been dead’: where have Britain’s insects gone?
  • Central Europe too. Last year I really noticed the decline but this year it's completely dead.

  • Is it actually very common for people to have violent sadistic fantasies, possibly involving actual people in their lives?
  • It's normal to get such weird brainfarts, like the call of the void or imagining murder or other bad things, just like when a song suddenly gets stuck in your head. A healthy person thinks "wtf brain?" but when you start to think "that's a great idea I want to act on", maybe that's not completely normal.
