[Romano] Al Hilal submitted formal bid for Mbappé worth €300M
  • This feels like it's about to get really messy.

Dont think there's much chance Mbappe goes to Saudi Arabia. PSG will presumably accept the bid anyway to try and force Real to submit one.

Real Madrid have already spent €130m this summer and would have planned the financial ramifications of the Bellingham & Mbappe signings in 2023 & 2024 a while ago.

Mbappe to the bench for a year?

  • @FabrizioRomano - Understand PSG consider Mbappé FOR SALE starting from today.
  • I've read a few stories about PSG finally doing something about player power. Whether its true or not is difficult to say at the moment as the Mbappe case is an outlier.

Once some player turnover occurs there's a good chance the club will just become a mess again.

  • @FabrizioRomano - Understand PSG consider Mbappé FOR SALE starting from today.

    > Paris Saint-Germain feel Kylian Mbappé wants to leave for free in 2024 — he did not communicate anything yet despite Al Khelaifi’s public statement. > > PSG decided to EXCLUDE Kylian from Japan tournée.

A pretty strong statement to exclude him from the preseason tour.

Edit: from reading a bit more, PSG have royally fucked this up. They've allowed Mbappe to cash in massively on both PSG wages and RM signing bonus and there's nothing they can do other than bench him.

    Introduction/Request for banner help
  • I tried to make one but it just turned out shit.

The video bot for goal highlights I mentioned previously seems to be working btw. It copies the post title and url to the video from reddit and posts it here automatically. If it's ok with you I can start it running 24/7 in the next few day to see how it goes? I can try to adjust it if necessary based on how that goes.

  • [META] I spoke to the mod of this community
  • I don't really have any interest in becoming a mod tbh. After the post from a few days ago, I was just wondering what will happen to the community if there is no one to steer the ship.

If we start getting spam or something we're stuck with it. If the community starts to grow we're stuck just making standard posts without stickied posts, no bot accounts to make regular posts etc.

I can try to help with bots or something but I'm no expert.

  • [META] I spoke to the mod of this community
  • I was keeping an eye with the formula 1 communities the past few weeks. One on lemmy.ml and another on lemmy.world. lemmy.ml was clearly bigger and more active. The end of June came and suddenly everyone started joining lemmy.world as it was open to new registrations and, because they didn't quite understand how the instances work together, lemmy.world/c/formula1 suddenly grew significantly and became the bigger community.

Being on lemmy.world is an advantage just now as new users recognise it when looking for communities.

  • When an oil depot gets blown up a handful of miles from a track and the race still goes ahead you know Saudi Arabia will keep it's f1 race for a while yet. It would be interesting to see the amounts paid by the race organisers to host. Presumably Abu Dhabi are top due to hosting the final race of the season.

  • [META] I spoke to the mod of this community
  • I kind of feel similar. Keeping the same community seems like the best option.

He's offered to add some mods if that sorts out any issues. Is anyone the mod of another community and knows about mods/admins? Can mods do everything an admin can (besides deleting the community) in case u/MushroomMan89 is away for a while?

  • [META] I spoke to the mod of this community

Thought this required its own post as we might need to create a new community.

I managed to get in contact with the creator of the community (same username on reddit). I don't think he's coming back to lemmy. He's offered to delete the community if that frees up the name for us to create an identical community on lemmy.world. I don't know if that's possible or if the community can be transferred to another user instead.

Staying on lemmy.world seems like a good idea imo as new arrivals will gravitate towards that.

Anyone have any ideas of the best way forward? Anyone fancy being an admin/mod lol?

Edit: He might not be permanently gone. Just coming back every once in a while.

Here's the conversation if anyone is interested.

  • Bot seemed to work in a test. No idea if it would work in the long term with reddit api limits. Takes about 30 seconds for the bot to post here after it's up on Reddit. I might test it again when there are a bunch of games on at the same time to see how it does.

I chose to exclude v.redd.it. Nobody posts any major goals there due to Reddit's copyright policy anyway.

If anyone wants the python script and can run it constantly then feel free to ask.

  • [Solved] What is this metal contraption (UK)?

This thing has been in my garden since I moved here and it's always just been pushed up against the side of the fence. I want rid of it now but I haven't got a clue what I'm removing. Its about 1 metre away from a telegraph pole. Nothing on the other side of the fence.

When the rod at the top reaches the fence it just goes straight down into the ground. I can rotate it around that point but no matter how much I pull/rotate it, it wont come out.

Another image after rotating it here:

Edit: Solved. It's a turnbuckle previously used to hold up the telegraph pole.

www.racefans.net Drivers support return of one-shot qualifying to address F1's traffic problems · RaceFans

Fernando Alonso has led calls from drivers to revive one-shot qualifying as a solution to traffic problems around shorter grand prix tracks.

    Thoughts on this?

I've always liked the idea of Q1 & Q2 knocking out more drivers, maybe 7 in each, then a one shot qualifying for the top 5/6.

I find missing most of the qualifying laps quite irritating. TV cameras cutting to the finish line and watching the last few seconds of almost everyone's lap doesn't seem like the best way to show some of the best drivers in the world driving at their limit.

Juve, we are heading towards a year off: no Conference and risk of a fine

    Translation:

Juve or Fiorentina, an Italian will certainly be there in the next Conference. But it's better not to hold your breath waiting for the riddle to be resolved: the "trial" at Juve for the alleged violations of the financial Fair Play, in fact, is simply in the investigation phase. The trial hasn't started yet. Complicated investigation, it was known, and long times. Impossible to hope for a sentence this week, difficult next week too. The most probable scenario is that the first degree ends in Nyon by mid-July. For reasons of urgency, any Juventus appeal will be addressed directly to the CAS, without a second degree before the UEFA judges. The goal is to have an answer by the end of July/early August, so as to complete the list of teams registered for the Conference playoff draw (August 7). Harsh attack by UEFA president, Aleksander Ceferin, on Juventus, Barcelona and Real Madrid. The UEFA president spoke at the Lisbon congress where he was re-elected for another four years: here are his words Trial, pm and sanctions—

The Juve dossier is very complex. UEFA asked the Turin prosecutor's office and the FIGC for all the documents that were first translated and then studied by the investigators. Thousands and thousands of pages. The talks between Turin and Nyon began some time ago, well before the renunciation of the Superlega, but these are above all procedural issues. We haven't gotten into it yet. Once the investigative phase is over, we will move on to the trial phase: only then will the Juventus club be able to dialogue with the judge who follows the case and who will prepare the final report. Once the second phase has also been completed, the judge will make his proposal to the club which has the right to oppose, contest the issues, request changes. Then, the final proposal will go to the judges for decision. The outlook: fines, disqualification and no settlement—

Soon to hypothesize scenarios, it depends on the amount of violations and also on how Juve's behavior will be evaluated. At the end of 2022, the Bianconeri signed a three-year agreement, a "settlement agreement", with UEFA. Settlement is a less punishing path for clubs, provided however that the objectives are met and that the declarations are correct. In the specific case of Juve, the global punishment (fine of 23 million) has been reduced to just 3 million. Failure to achieve the objectives will certainly lead to an increase in the fine, from 4 to a total of 23 million, i.e. with no more discounts, more limits to the squad and the transfer market. Then there is another worst-case scenario. If the judge were to consider the violations very serious, he could declare the "settlement" void: this would lead to a sanction without "negotiation".

The cups: no waiver of the Tas—

The rumor had spread that Juve, not exactly happy about going to the Conference, could have refused participation. A remote and self-defeating eventuality. A club that refuses to participate in the cup for which it has qualified risks a fine and even worse, and there would also be consequences for the federation to which it belongs. In reality it is much more probable that, in dialogue with the judge, Juve understand that the one-year ban is a realistic prospect and therefore accept it without objection. Common sense suggests that, in the presence of a one-year disqualification, and the prospect of "skipping" the Conference, Juve does not go to the CAS. Different speech in the event of a heavier exclusion, from two years upwards: this would preclude a possible Champions League and would understandably push Juve to turn to the judges of Lausanne (the Cassation of European sport). The future: Club World Cup possible—

The discussion on the Conference yes or no crosses over with the very rich Club World Cup which debuts in 2025: the first edition, now it's official, will take place in the USA. Someone fears that not participating in the Conference is a problem because the last 4 European champions and the 8 with the best UEFA ranking qualify for the World Cup. It is not so. Only the ranking achieved in the Champions League counts: the results in the other two cups (Europa League and Conference) do not enter the account, so Juve will not add points in '23-24 in any case. The Club World Cup is difficult to win because Milan and Naples can overcome the black and whites with the results of the next Champions League. But that's another story. Today the theme is the imminent future in the cups
