Coffee, eggs and white rice linked to higher levels of PFAS in human body
  • I should clarify that my statement is my own speculation.

The study didn't directly measure pfas in food. They measure pfas levels in blood plasma and breast milk of pregnant women and self reported diets. So I assume that takeout containers is a substantial contributing factor.

But the article mentions that the researchers also suspect contaminated filters for coffe and contaminated irrigation water for rice. So there might be reason to be concerned about other sources of contamination.

The eggs association is a little more puzzling to me. I want to also blame that on fast food sandwhich wrappers, but that might be too much of a leap.

  • How do you better tolerate caffeine?
  • I had a hard time finding whole bean decaf. Counter culture: slow motion and magnolia coffee co: Brazil decaf are too options that I like fairly well.

My sensitivity to caffeine varies. When it starts to bother me, going to approximately half decaf and half normal beans is a good way to cut the caffeine without having the shock of suddenly switching to decaf only.

  • The modern "bulb" in a 150-year-old lighthouse.
  • That's the difference between making a light that can be seen over a large area vs lights to brightly illuminate a large area. Lighthouses only need to be seen not illuminate the sea.

But yeah, I would have guessed it to be higher as well.

  • I just spent a weekend in a rented crosstrek. I hated the throttle curve. It's super twitchy at low speeds and lacks power at highway speeds. It made navigating parking lots way more finnicky than necessary.
