Bun alert extreme.
  • [email protected] ;) they are cute too! Also from my quick check of this instance (recommended on my instance), https://falconry.party. Bunny enjoyers be warned, falconry.party has pictures of dead rabbits as falcons hunt them. [email protected] has no pictures of snake kills (both ones committed by snakes, and ones happening to snakes) yet and I doubt things like will be posted there for awhile. I'm pretty sure the latter would be very unappreciated over there.

In retrospect it might be a little weird that my two most favored animals have a predator-prey relationship ^^; and now that I am trying to appreciate birds it's getting even worse haha

  • How are you doing with your communities?
  • Hm. I probably should make a backup community. Have to figure out which instance I'd put it on. Thanks for the catbox.moe rec, I'll look into it.

Still like the idea of community redundancy though, more choice, and if I ever go crazy and become power-mad (let us hope not), or if I just make some important community decision people don't like, people can up and leave and still have a bunny place without too much friction. At the moment both [email protected] and [email protected] are pleasant places and I hope it stays that way.

  • How are you doing with your communities?
  • Thank you!

It is convenient, but I do want to help take the load off. It is the biggest Lemmy instance and I want to grow smaller instances. I mostly feel bad about being on .world because it's the biggest instance and I want to make the Fediverse diverse instead of all centralized on one giant.

Worth noting I don't personally notice anything bad with .world or .ml, but I know part of me being able to say that is because I keep off Local/All on any general-purpose instance and stick to my subs.

  • How are you doing with your communities?
  • Wondering about whether I should find somewhere else to host my images before I post them, especially since I post to/mod [email protected], on the biggest instance. I do crop them down to just the relevant bit and compress them before posting.

Also wondering whether to move off lemmy.world or if it'll die of low activity: most of our posts are from the same few people (thankfully I am not the only poster!), and [email protected] fulfills the same niche. I want to preserve the fact that there are two active bunny communities. I love the Bun Alert System, if you check our sidebars we both reference each other, but I also like the idea that if one of our instances dies, if the other community goes inactive, there is still a second bunny place to go to. So I do not want [email protected] to just die and have its users absorbed by the Bun Alert System.

I do like the idea of the old mod I replaced because they went MIA being able to come back, find this, and post/mod again, which is a small point towards not leaving lemmy.world, but ever since I got my feet wet at kbin.social and learned what was going on I've decided that I'd rather support smaller instances. I am only on lemmy.world because turns out you cannot see reports if you mod from an account from a different instance (at least, that is how it was when I first took over. You can literally see me trying to mod with accounts from smaller instances, finding it didn't work, and stopping via the modlogs of some Elevator7009 being added, and leaving haha).

  • little bun dreams big

Shot a picture of bunbun looking outside the fence. Looked like one of those shots where a character looks wistfully at something while dreaming of some goal. Or maybe the grass is just greener and tastier on the other side of the fence :P

  • I'll be honest, it is really hard for me to see this one as wholesome, given I'm part of a household where two people did not want a dog and one did. We got overruled. The dog-wanter promised they would do all the work, and I knew that that promise would be broken. I brought that up several times before the purchase.

Well, the people who didn't want the dog (including myself) get stuck with all the work. I for one do not like the dog one bit. I hate it. I have a feeling if it seriously injured one of us the dog-wanter would fight to keep it and flat-out ignore any trauma that might have been acquired from that situation (and tbh that already kind of happened). I want it given to a shelter as soon as possible. The other person—I cannot gauge their feelings, sometimes they agree with me but sometimes they call it a nickname as if they love it.

I am glad for all the people who are happy but man, please don't think because of all these "man who didn't want dog likes it anyways" posts that you can just bring an animal home that others in the household don't want and expect it to turn out like the memes.

I don't like to be the person ruining everyone else's fun, but I figure this is just one meme, a small bit of ruined fun, compared to the giant dump on my parade that taking care of an animal I don't like and that I never wanted is. There are lots of responsibilities that can be unexpectedly dumped on me that I will handle with grace. This is not one of those responsibilities. I don't want anyone else subjected to this because "look at all the anecdotes of people who said they did not want an animal and liked it anyways, there was a whole subreddit for that, surely it'll turn out the same if I do it!" And if I'm just being stupid and nobody would ever take that as evidence… ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

  • How do I kick my dead kbin.run account off the mod team?

I mod [email protected]. Was originally added with my now-dead @[email protected]. I cannot login to that account and remove myself because kbin.run died. Now the community appears to have two same-name mods. It is not the biggest deal ever but I would like a way to boot my dead account from the mod team.

Thinking about entertainment communities and other broader focus communities
  • Thanks for addressing my concern. With this additional context it looks like he's trying to refuse without being straightforward about it (from my end). Although I get it is a tactic to try to be nice instead of hurtful, it often just leads to more hurt, especially when people take the action to do "X" and they still get a "no". Wasted effort trying to convert a "no" to a "yes" that could never be converted, and probably inadvertently pissing off someone who wishes you would just take a hint when you understandably take them at face value because some people do legitimately say "no, for X reason" and could be converted to a "yes" when X is addressed. It would be better for all parties to be straightforward. As someone who cares a lot about being nice and protecting peoples' feelings, it is, in fact, very possible to be straightforward and honest without being rude or hurtful.

  • Not sure why you are owed Blaze's efforts on your instances specifically, and why a "no" prompts such a negative, unflattering comparison. You might not actually believe you are entitled to his efforts, but the harsh comparison in reaction to his "no" is what makes me perceive you as feeling that way. I am really not used to people who don't feel entitled to someone's efforts speaking that way when they refuse.

I appreciate and acknowledge your efforts, I know you made some software to help people find replacement communities for subreddits and to mirror content from other sites to the Fediverse but to be honest this comment leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Especially given all the posts they do make to try to contribute to the Fediverse and grow it—but at least from what I see, they do not want to take on the additional tasks of modding or administrating your instance and you find their reasons unacceptable so you make this comparison, which frankly looks like an attempt to insult them to me.

And that unflattering comparison leaves me somewhat scared to post this comment lest I get one too, for having wrongthink, too much sympathy for someone you think I should not, insert other insults here. But I also figure I should probably speak up instead of getting in the habit of letting my fear of conflict (and lack of experience with seeing people speak harshly to me or others irl) control me especially when I feel I see something that should not have happened.

Did Blaze tell you your communities are all trash or something? I really do not see why you are reacting so harshly.

  • How are you doing with your communities?
  • I super appreciate your community! Unfortunately I encounter bunnies and can thus make bunny content for [email protected] far more frequently than I encounter snakes of any type, let alone the royal python. I can try to explicitly look up royal pythons to post so you're not alone!

I also think this is happening because right now, we are so small that we do not have enough users to split the snake-lover community by species just yet.

  • a bunny

Bad camera quality on this one makes the eye look a lot like what you see during a solar eclipse! But hey, at least it's OC and I don't own a fancy camera.

I'm definitely still alive. I appreciate the [email protected] and encourage it especially because it's good to have things off of lemmy.world, but I figure I should probably still run this one so there's redundancy in case lemmy.sdf.org goes down. I was considering perhaps seeing if people want to move off lemmy.world to somewhere else…

If only my phone camera's pictures were as sharp as what my eyes saw…

Funnily enough, the buns look like they have googly eyes, especially the right one where it literally looks like I drew googly eyes in MS Paint on the picture.

[Weekly thread] How are you doing with your communities?
  • I have seen someone use https://toobnix.org for videos, which is in the Fediverse.

Part of me wants to upload videos to Fediverse places and link there, part of me wants to stick them on YouTube and link to that because I feel bad using Fediverse resources, all the space my video takes up, but have no guilt using up YouTube's resources.

So kbin.run is down and its admin's online presence seems to have vanished, taking [email protected] and my access to my main account @[email protected] down with it. Not sure if kbin.run and its admin will resurface, and even if they do, it is good to have a backup, so I have created [email protected].

(Why not post from the other modded account, @[email protected]? Because lemmy.zip is down for me too… wonder if it's a similar situation or just a coincidence and lemmy.zip will be back up soon.)

Why is the option to edit the sidebar so close to the Leave Mod Team option?

In a similar vein to this post. Mistakes happen.

Also, when I was initially looking for the button to edit the sidebar I was actually scared to try out that button because the proximity to "leave mod team" and the fact it's just an image of something getting edited made me think it was related to unmodding myself. Considering I had to get a Lemmy admin to install this obvious alt account because my Mbin main account cannot add mods to, edit the sidebar of, or handle reports from Lemmy communities, I was really hesitant to take the risk of possibly unmodding myself and having to bug the admin to help me out yet again.
