Is gentoo a good choice?
Compiling isn't that bad. Other than the initial install, compiling is done in a terminal window while you do other things. With today's multi-core CPU's, times aren't bad either.

Rod Langway's OT playoff goal against the Rangers in 1990. I was watching the game at a friends house since we didn't have cable. When the game went to overtime my friend and I picked who we thought would score the winner, I sarcastically picked Langway...I was right....he was my favorite player growing up.
It was a good year, the first time the Caps made it to the conference finals.
