Three new soft-blocking options that Lemmy might need in the future (regarding bots and controversial remote communities)
  • With the right tools, I'm sure it would also help knowing that an instance could run itself. For example, an instance using a tool to detect suspicious activity and using one of these options instead of something more extreme, like, as you mentioned, defederation.

  • I found a major communication problem with public perception of Lemmy. they seem to think a community is tied to a particular instance
  • To me it sounds like they're advocating for decentralization. Defederation means less traffic for an instance. If the majority of users are already on one instance, defederation could end it. I imagine most people want an instance where they can reach the most people. If they, understandably, pick the largest instance, it may not be long before it holds all the power, in terms of user acivity or count, and becomes the center.

  • Discord plans to let creators sell downloadable products
  • The new Downloadables and Server Shop add to Discord’s server subscriptions as ways for creators to monetize their servers. Server subscriptions are getting an improvement, too: the company is adding tier templates to make it easier to decide what subscriptions to offer to your community.
