Redbox Picnic Area to Valley Forge, ANF
Trip Report:
Went 2/17/25 to Angeles National Forest for a quick jaunt. Had the trail to myself, there was fresh mountain lion scat alongside the fire road. I took the fire road route as I didn't want to bush whack through poodle dog bush as older reports indicated parts of the trail is overgrown.
I didn't make it fully down to the camp to assess the damage done by previous fires as the doggo was getting a bit tired. I'll probably make another trip in the coming week or two to check out this area as it's been a cool while since the fires came through. I stopped just before the junction where you can descend to the valley floor.
Total mileage: 4.37 round trip
Politicians gain their power from The People. It is alarming as an American that nearly half the country actually wants this to happen because "the other side is getting hurt" without recognizing that they too will suffer alongside the people they are told to dislike.
What was that infamous quote from POTUS LBJ again? "Convince the poorest white that he's better than the richest black so you can pick his pockets clean [paraphrasing]"
It's incredibly jarring to have the burden of knowledge while others revel in their own ignorance. As a minority and a former Marine, I am deeply ashamed and disappointed in my fellow Americans.
I argue mostly everyone here never had a real banana. No, the ones in the stores aren't the original flavor.
Whatever happened to those fine individuals who said "Rather be a Russian than a Democrat?" Wish they were the ones that are leaving.

Since I lost my job, I've been macguyvering stuff around the house to save money. For example:
Every week I would take out my blue trash can for the garbage folks to pick up/dump, but for the past month I haven't bothered to take it out. Why? I've been reusing the cardboard as weed barriers for my garden (with mulch on top) to using egg cartons as temporary seed trays to using those clear fruit containers as pots as well.
Empty coffee cans endnup being filled with other smaller oddities around the home or used as a smaller bucket for when I need to harvest sand.
Point being, you be surprised how resourceful you can be if you give it a try.
Maybe sprinkle some DE on the top of your soil after watering to deter the pests or I've read that hydrogen peroxide (dilute) in a spray bottle helps kill the pests as well. How was your experience with egg carton growing?
Yeah my hot peppers are taking a bit to sprout whereas my sweet peppers have already shot out their true leaves. Try nicking your pepper seeds if you want them to germinate faster
A not so sweet reminder that the US had concentration camps, one of them being the infamous Manzanar camp in California that housed Japanese-American citizens as their property were seized and sold to the public. Not too long ago, eh?
Zone 10b Tomato Time!
So stoked to see my tomatoes coming through. These are the beefsteak variety as I'm waiting for my Black Krim to sprout. I decides to go hard on producing more veggies and fruits since I been lollygagging on getting around to starting up my raised beds. Got a no til plot that should be ready to plant in, just undecided if I should give that plot to my tomatoes or to corn? What would y'all do? Growing anything juicy this season?
