Speaking for myself and not the rest of the mods, I think "proactive" is a wonderful word. This team is very active and very focused on trying to maintain a good, safe and if possible goofy vibe for the community.
Alright, I am locking this thread before it gets too mean. Please remember these community rules:
- Be nice. Assume others have good intent (within reason).
- Block or ignore posts, comments, and users that irritate you in some way rather than engaging. Report if they are actually breaking community rules.
The "Avoid AI generated content." rule is primarily meant for posts, not comments. We also used the word "avoid" rather than make it an outright ban of everything AI because things aren't always black and white. There is wiggle room in there, for example if there have been enough transformative edits to an image or meme. Please, lets just keep it lighthearted and if there are any issues, report to the mod team (Rule 3).
This was (is) an old company that had set up their mainframe computers like that probably as soon as the towers opened. Inertia likely took care of the rest. When the towers fell Datacenter 3 was almost ready in Des Moines and I was supposed to spin up the Austin one. There is nothing quite like being in your twenties and getting panicked calls from C level execs of Fortune 100 company trying to find out if I had any backups of New York.
PS: Our entire IVR system was voiced by one of my colleagues who died when the towers collapsed (he was right outside). We had to listen to his very distinctive voice for months afterwards.
Here a fucked up fact. I worked for a company who had Datacenter 1 in Tower 2 and Datacenter 2 in Tower 1. We lost both datacenters along with most IT personnel that day. Hundreds of people lost. After that, our DR plans had to include "all hands lost" as part of the scenarios. Before 9/11, the thought of losing everything and everyone never crossed most IT departments' minds.
If you disagree with "anti-tankie" sentiments, please block the community rather than engage. Please move on and continue enjoying the rest of the Fediverse. Not everything is for everyone.
