How do people find good information on the internet these days?
  • Search for open source rss feed readers. There are a few good ones.

  • Reddit Takes Over Popular Subreddit Amid Moderator Protest
  • Most idiots don’t recognize the fact that they are idiots.

  • scallops can gallop
  • Sgallops?

  • Princess Bean having tea with Mr Bean
  • He’s drinking the cream!

  • Reddit's API protest just got even more NSFW
  • reddit will never feel the same again

It really doesn’t seem like the cool place it once was. They took the vibe away with these API changes.

  • Elon Musk Really Broke Twitter This Time
  • I don’t understand how someone so stupid can be in charge of so much.

  • [Done] New try at upgrading to 0.18.1 July 1st 20:00 CET
  • Pages loading slowly here and sometimes not loading content. Could be due to the number of new users.

  • Reddit says new accessibility tools for moderators are coming. Mods are skeptical
  • I do most of my moderation on mobile and in new reddit you can't access the sidebar in the mobile view they give. I have to use old reddit therefore. The sidebar has the mod tools linked to it as well as rules and a bucnh of other useful things... that are all not visible in mobile. Their UI standards are very low.

  • I Was Someones Glitch in the Matrix

    >I went out, parked infront of a store, bought a 6pack of water and went to register nr2, paid with change.

    >Half an hour later, I remembered I wouldn't be going out anytime soon again so I decided to buy more water, and everything happened in the exact same order, I parked at the same spot, entered, bought a 6pack, register 2 is free, same girl working there, I even paid with same ammount of change coins. She looked at me with a bit of horror and confusion but couldnt see me smiling under my mask.

How do you feature a post?
  • Thanks a bunch! I didn't notice the icon because it has the word community after it. Now I see it! :)

How do you make a post so that it's featured on the front page of the community?

  • Man they really are a bunch of nazis now.

edit: banning someone permanently from reddit for posting a john oliver post is total nazi move

  • Reddit captures 7% to 16% less audience time during blackout
  • That's just measuring captive audience. What about all the influential users who have left because of how Reddit is treating their userbase. Removing mods who were protesting is a very short term solution. In the long term the overall quality of the site will be diminished.

  • What are some clever ways of reducing the amount of garbage a household creates?
  • Most of my household waste gets recycled. I have three bins in my kitchen. One for metal, plastic and glass. One for paper and cardboard. The last one is for garbage. 99% of my waste is recycled so there is no cost associated with that. Edit: I also have an organic waste container. We have green bins in my city.

  • I died last night... But I'm still here.

    >So this actually happened last week... It just took me some time to come to terms with it...

    >I got a phone call from my next door neighbor late in the evening asking if I can help him move a mattress into his upstairs. His mom is ill and has a big heavy sleep number bed. I of course ran over to help because they're great neighbors.

    >I get over there and his friend, who is also a priest, was there to help. I helped them figure out how to separate the mattress from the bed so we could fit it up stairs. We get it all moved up and back in place when my neighbor asks if I can help them move an armoire upstairs too. I think nothing of it and we pull it out of his travel trailer and start bringing it up the front stairs of his house.

    >This is where I died. The front stairs are 11 steps. I was on the lower end of the armoire about 6 steps up when my neighbor and his friend lose a handle on the armoire and it comes crashing down on me and I fall backwards towards the pavement...

    >I then wake up in my dining room to my phone ringing and my wife asking me if I'm going to answer the phone. It's my neighbor asking me if I can help move a bed upstairs for his mom...

    >I go over there and meet his priest friend again, as this has been the first time I met him. I say I can help with the bed but I cannot help with the armoire. My neighbor was like "how'd you know about the armoire?". I then proceeded to tell them I'm pretty sure I just died.

    >I spent the next hour talking with the priest. He had so many questions. My neighbor didn't believe it until I described the upstairs bedroom in perfect detail down to the metal mattress frame on the floor and the intricate headboard leaning against the wall and I had never been upstairs in their house before.

    >The priest asked me what I saw after I died. I told him I never actually died. Before it happened I woke up at my dining room table.

    >TL;DR... I experienced my death but woke up alive about 20 minutes earlier in my life.

My 5yo son "broke character" and talked to me like an adult

    >This happened about two years ago and I was so blown away I took notes and told my wife about it, so I still have the notes on my phone. My 5yo son was pretty typical for his age; always goofing around, never serious, always working some angle to negotiate treats or buying whatever thing was at the top of his list this week. Kids have a selfish worldview and that's mostly indetstandable because they haven't matured yet. So when my son asked me to go for a walk just the two of us, I immediately laughed and thought "ok, what's he going to ask for".

    >We start walking and I ask "what's on your mind buddy?". He said "nothing really, I just want to have some time to be with you and be peaceful and be out in nature". Wow ok, this is progress I thought. Then he said "I want you to know you're the best Dad I've ever had. You really do help me and my sister a lot and you're really very nice, even though we don't usually tell you. So I just wanted to say 'thank you for everything' and that I want to be near you always." By this point, the only reason I wasn't completely crying my eyes out is that I thought it was some kind of a joke or lead up to ask for something, this was totally out of character especially at this age. I managed to croak out something like "I'm really glad to hear that and I love you very much". Then we just enjoyed the rest of the walk.

    >It really felt like for a moment I was speaking to a soul who has had several lives ("you're the best dad I've ever had") and wanted to speak directly to me instead of play the role of a child. I'm so glad it happened and it's something I will never forget. Later he went right back to being the same old goofy kid that I love.

Saw the stars in the middle of a city

    >Woke up in the middle of the night last night around 4:30am BST, I had my curtains half open and instead of looking at my phone or around my room I immediately looked out my window and for a split second I saw the stars as clear as day, jumped out of bed to get a proper look and they were gone.

    >I live in the middle of a big city though so the only lights in the sky would be satellites, but literally for a split second I saw the stars and how quickly the earth was rotating.

    >I've tried to look it up to see if other people have had the same experience as I did, bit I can't find anything about it.

    >Does anyone know what could've caused it?

    Lemmy.World Community Moderation Guidelines
  • I think Lemmy needs a dedicated mod page that clearly outlines the actions that can take place with links to other views. We need a modmail page so that mods can be contacted and reply to questions anonymously (reply as group). We need a page that shows who we’ve banned and the reasons for the ban. There’s a lot more but this would be a good start.

  • POLL - Will you stay on lemmy?
  • Yes, it's really clean. Once it grows the debugging will help smooth things out.

  • I made the mistake of checking Reddit (using my last few days of Apollo) and came across a complaint about Lemmy that flabbergasted me
  • The content, not the buttons to click on it are the draw right?

I agree. The content is key.

  • We have arrived.

We are originally from Reddit. This sub has a million subscribers on Reddit so we thought we would start something here.

Feel free to post glitch stories to this community. Strange events that happened to you. Unusual circumstances.

We ask that you do not post childhood stories (under 16yrs old) or stories where you were intoxicated. Other rules may apply soon. We'll start here for now.

    Good luck and enjoy!
