  • Oh, looking at the Windows 11 Photos app real quick, I see the path is shown under the file info tab at the top. That's nice! I don't think this was shown anywhere in the Windows 10 version, but again, it's been a while since I've checked.

  • Hey, some games don't even bother with the documents folder! They just dump their saves right in your home folder!

  • The Windows Scan app is particularly bad at this. When you scan a document, it saves the scan as a PNG in Pictures\Scans. This is a sensible place to save scans by default, but it doesn't tell you where. It just says it was saved. There's a button to view it, but this just opens the scan in the Windows Photos app, which (at least, last I checked) doesn't have an option to view the full path of the picture you're viewing or open the folder it's in!

  • The artist for this is 미크리pkm on twitter, if anyone's wondering.

  • sfc /scannow /rule
  • I once had someone on Microsoft Community tell me to run sfc /scannow and bootrec /fixmbr. The issue I had was Explorer.exe (like, the start menu and taskbar) was crashing every time I modified a file. The solution (as far as I ever figured out) was to reinstall Windows.

  • Looking for an inventory search mod for 1.20
  • Following up on this, Chest Tracker got an update for 1.20 last week.

I also found clientcommands, which adds some client side commands, including /cfinditem to find items in nearby chests. Though, some of the commands it adds likely considered cheating on a lot of servers (like /cfindblock and /cfind).

  • IPN is pretty neat. I tried it earlier, and I don't think it worked with the Iron Chests mod when I checked a couple weeks ago, but it seems to now.

Where Is It, seems to do the same sort of thing as Chest Tracker, but on 1.20.

  • What are some of your favorite mods and modpacks?
  • I'm going to list some more mods I've found that I really like:

Better Harvesting - adds fast leaf decay, vein mining, and automatically replanting crops.

Ambient sounds - adds some much needed ambient noise to the game

Convenient mobGriefing - splits mobgGiefing into multiple gamerules, so you can disable bad mob griefing (like creepers, endermen) but keep OK mob griefing (villiagers, sheep, snow golems)

Comforts - adds sleeping bags so you can skip the night while exploring without setting your spawn.

  • Hey! I won't take any slander for the Logitech F710 Wireless Controller!!!

(I have the F310, which is the cheaper and worse version that doesn't have wireless. The dpad is mushy, the sticks aren't great, and the shoulder buttons are on a weird overhang. I have no Idea why anyone would intentionally use this controller when there's better options. The F310 is only like $20, so I get it if someone just wants a really cheap controller, but the F710 is $50! That's only $10 cheaper than an actual XBox controller!)

Some of my old start pages

I don't actually have a new startpage to show off, but I want to share some of my old ones. I last posted these on reddit in 2019 (4 years ago!). https://imgur.com/a/UTdxeQv

    February 12, 2017

    February 12, 2017

This one was a simple list of links, mainly to my favorite subreddits, webcomics, tools, and socials (yes, I did use Google+). The color scheme was based on the PaperColor vim theme for a markdown file.

This one was a lot more minimal. Still a list of links, but less of them and no categories. This one is customizable. The text (hello, world), date format, links, and colors can all be changed in settings. Available here: https://github.com/Rayquaza01/startpage/releases/tag/v2.0.0

This was my first attempt at including an RSS feed in the startpage, and It was very ugly. The background image is pulled from the Bing wallpaper of the day.

    July 28, 2019 July 28, 2019, but animated

This is the newest one I've made. I really like how the block with the date and time looks. The background color can be set to a static color, or to shift between a set of various colors, which I think provides a very nice looking effect. The feed at the bottom can pull from any RSS feed, but it defaults to https://reddit.com/r/popular/.rss. (You could set this to a kbin or lemmy feed instead, if you want) It also has support for FreshRSS, a self-hostable RSS server. You can set it to pull from a FreshRSS feed to get from multiple rss feeds at once (in the first screenshot, it's pulling from my YouTube subscriptions from FreshRSS). It can also mark entries as read in FreshRSS after you open them. Available here: https://github.com/Rayquaza01/startpage/releases/tag/v3.0.3

I kind of want to work on this again. I would appreciate any tips or suggestions on how to improve it! The source code for (most) of these start pages can be found here: https://github.com/Rayquaza01/startpage.

What are you reading this week? [6/18/23]
  • I just finished This is How You Lose the Time War today. It's a pretty short read, but I think it's as good as everyone says.

  • Really nice games you can play with mouse only
  • TOEM is a really fun game about taking pictures that can be played mouse only.

  • My tropicore island so far (please give me ideas)
  • I can't give any tips (my island is kind of a mess haha) but I love that pixel art octopus you made on the island. I've never seen something like that!

What are some of your favorite mods and modpacks?
  • Nice! Back in high school I played a modded server with my friend and we built a big solar panel farm and a nuclear reactor. That was a lot of fun! I want to say it was B-team, but it doesn't seem to have a nuclear mod so it must have been something else. Playing with him was nice because he was a lot better at building than me lol.

  • What are some of your favorite mods and modpacks?

My favorite modpack is definitely the old Tekkit for Minecraft 1.5. I've probably spent more hours in Tekkit than any other Minecraft version or modpack.

As for a mod, I wouldn't say this is my favorite mod, but I want to recommend Chalk. It's a very simple mod that adds a chalk item, which you can use to draw arrows on the ground. It's very useful for marking your path when exploring open areas and cave systems.

Looking for an inventory search mod for 1.20
  • I found one! I was using JEI, which doesn't support searching but there's also EMI which does support NEI style double-click search. Neat!

  • Looking for an inventory search mod for 1.20

I want to find a mod that lets you filter items in an inventory (like the old NEI double-click search mode). I know about More Overlays Updated, but that's Forge only, and I'd prefer to stay on Fabric.

Does anyone know about a Fabric mod that lets you search inventories?

(Also, I'm really impressed at how many mods there are for 1.20 already, considering it just released last week.)
