JD Vance is the least liked VP nominee in decades, according to polls
  • JD Vance lacks a spine. It's telling how quick he is to sucker up to a man he hates just for a little power.... especially so when that man and his followers hate people like Vance's wife. Shows how little "family" really matters to him.

  • I can not believe
  • The idea is wonderful, but I'm not a fan of this modernized poetry that lacks any sort of structure. Free verse, if you will, just feels lacking. Any profound statement on twitter could easily be considered "poetry" by breaking the lines up awkwardly and haphazardly, without any recognizable form and be considereded "poetry" I guess. It feels uninspired and lazy, and I struggle to genuinely enjoy it. But I guess that's the point of most "modern" art - the point isn't the organization, the skill, the technique, or the stylization of the art, but merely, what does the art make you "experience" or "feel". So then why even break up the lines? The pauses feel jarring in some aspect... especially so in the second verse. It could be a single line and not deviate, in any way, from the same flow, idea, or feeling it intends to provoke.

  • GMod admins when you noclip
  • I get what you're saying, it's capitalism vs socialism, not Democracy vs socialism, however my issue is that they don't even like our Democracy. I got banned for even supporting it.

They were slamming how terrible our liberal politicians were, so I made a few comments about it and I got banned for defending them. It's frustrating...but whatever....

  • There are too many of these people on lemmy
  • I was just banned from leftymemes because I was having a conversation about Democrats. They essentially said that the Democrats suck because they don't want to sink the levels of depravity of the Alt-Right. I pretty much said, whatever happened to "Be the Change you want to see?" They want a government that works together. You can't do that be being savage, raving, lying lunatics like the Alt-Right.

Apparently that's enough to get you banned by the Alt-Left. Fuck them

  • Britain Unveils New Stealth Fighter Design at Farnsborough International Airshow
  • Yeah, it appears entirely conceptual, but if it gets picked up, we'll be seeing development for the next decade.

I'll be at the Airshow tomorrow so I can check it out further. With BAE UK's involvement, it feels like a cross between the Eurofighter and the F-35.

British Army Vehicle Fires High Power Laser Weapon

Scientists and engineers have successfully tested a high-powered laser weapon mounted on a British Army combat vehicle.

According to the Defence Science and Technology Laboratory (Dstl) and the Ministry of Defence (MOD), this trial marks the first instance of such a weapon being fired from a UK land vehicle.

Bangladesh’s internet blackout immobilizes its booming tech industry.
  • I read it the article, but why did the government pass something like that? They had to realize that there would be substantial pushback. And what's with all of the violence? 110 deaths is absolutely insane.

  • evergreen meme
  • "Be the change you want to see".

Most of them want a Congress that is willing to work together. Congress is literally supposed to work together. Conservatism and progressivism are two hands of the same body. Just because one of those hands has cancer doesn't mean you remove the whole hand. The Alt-Right needs to disappear, but that doesn't mean they should sink to the depraved depths that the right is willing to go.

    It's Only One Vote
  • Cool, so you directly or indirectly help the fascist get elected. Smart.

That's my problem with other liberals/independents. Everyone has to pass their bullshit purity test (candidates, friends, family, etc). That's why Republicans win. They stick together no matter what.

Need some advice...is the dough supposed to be this sticky?

I tried my hand at making a starter years ago and it went poorly. I was gifted some starter earlier this week and have been bulking it up in order to bake some bread this weekend. The starter is MUCH better than any of the ones I've ever made, so Ive had high hopes all week that my sourdough will actually come out decent this time.

I've been following this recipe, and it's been going....not well. Everything was weighed to the gram, including the starter, and "lukewarm" water was about 80ish degrees. The dough is so unbelievably sticky that I can barely scrape it off the sides of the bowl.

Is this normal? It's been years since I've done this so I'm back to questioning everything. I'm planning to just drop the whole thing into a Dutch oven and cook it, but I understand that I'm deviating from the recipe. My Dutch oven cooks were just so much better.

Cna anyone provide a better recipe for just a basic sourdough boule that you've had decent success with? I'd really like to continue baking bread, but I know for a fact that I'll wind up giving up again if I have too many failures (I think I baked 8 different times a few years ago, and I gave up because they were always so dense, and flat.). Really want something with a good, fluffy, stretchy crumb.

Any advice or questions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

"It's difficult to refine these elements. That's why we send rare earth elements offshore -- generally to China -- to process them."

Surprising discovery shows electron beam radiation can repair nanostructures

Not sure how useful it is yet, but it sounds like with some AI and proper cameras you could use it to completely repair certain components. Theres something similar to this using electrochemical plating to repair microfractures throughout a component - only downside is that it takes like weeks to do it properly (I'll see if I can dig up the paper later)
