Beautiful.
I understand it to be geopolitically significant. Biden, head of state for a big country. Xi, head of state for another big country. China's made it known they don't want Xi called a dictator. Biden's done it anyway.
It's the scale of the thing that matters here. It's a political statement of gravity. He's calling any bluff they've got going, and demonstrating that the USA doesn't respect China enough to use their preferred nomenclature. It's a calculated insult and a challenge.
The mods at r/nz seemed pretty reasonable.
I'm so sorry. You're a manager now.
I would really love a dialog informing me of the link destination before I get sent there. I'm used to such a thing from RiF so it was a nasty shock to see a wiki page on child molestation pop up when I tapped an innocuously titled link.
This is the instance, lemmy.nz which I think of it as concerning the kiwi perspective. Contained within is the community c/newzealand. I think of that as the Aotearoa topic within the kiwi perspective.
As such, I would consider such a post to be suitable for lemmy.nz, as it is to be discussed in our context, but not c/newzealand since it is not about Aotearoa.
I'd certainly be in favour of a c/offtopic community here.
Delightful. The auricaria over here seem mostly limited to Norfolk pines so it's lovely to see other examples of the genus.
Since [email protected] seemed to still be empty last I checked, this would be the ideal time to refocus it.
I haven't yet seen a r/marijuanaenthusiasts port in the fediverse and would welcome such!
It probably would be a problem with the servers if it's stuck on loading.
But you shouldn't need to create accounts on multiple instances: if the instances are federated, that is if they have linked, you should be able to subscribe and interact with communities on other instances just from your one account.
Depends on how you're interacting with Lemmy, I think. In firefox I click on the thumbnail. In Jerboa I have to enter the comments thread, or follow the link by tapping on the thumbnail.
You might find more knowledgeable answers in the Lemmy support community.
Interestingly, in my country we seem to use the botanical name (at least part of the binomial) quite frequently by preference over any common English name.
Nasturtium, Rhododendron, Eucalyptus. Convolvulus. Tradescantia. Pinus radiata. Macrocarpa.
Nevertheless I am yet to hear exclamations of "oh, stuff your Brassica oleracea capitata!"
Galaxy A32 4G (2021). Alright camera & specs, 3.5" audio jack, dedicated μSDXC port, DS/DS, FM radio. Decent price point. Dropped OneUI for NovaLauncher.
The most annoying thing about getting it was the fact the 5G version is a completely different phone- different dimensions & all. But shops didn't seem to realise this. They stocked exclusively the 4G phone (fine by me: it's specced better) but the 5G peripherals. So I had to go online to get case etc.
nowadays
Hmm, I think you're right. This page unequivocally identifies them as crown entities, autonomous yet TEC-funded. I think it was the autonomy that threw me off.
Thanks! Subscribed to both communities.
Did the universities use to be publicly owned? Perhaps a Te Pūkenga-style arrangement might do the trick.
Granted we haven't really seen yet how that arrangement goes, and so far it's not looking promising...

Have found NonCredibleDefense.
There are a few pages available that list communities and instances. These are good:
- midwest.social/c/communities
- browse.feddit.de
