Share link to post / comment using instance of choice

Hi, loving the app!

Something I hope could be added as a feature would be the ability to set an instance to use as the base for all link creation. As an example, I would like to always share Lemmy.world links when I’m sending links to posts to my friends. Currently, the share button shares the canonical link to wherever the OP’s home instance is.

There is a web app called Lemmyverse.link that will create Lemmy.world links from any Lemmy link, but it would be extremely convenient if this functionality were built into Voyager.

Ideally this could be added as a feature to Lemmy, but in the meantime, I’m hoping it could be added to Voyager!

Inbox Notifications for Mod Queue

It would be nice if notfications about new reports in the mod queue would be displayed in the inbox.

Right now I have to check the mod queue manually to see if there are new reports. This could lead to delays in moderating reported content.

1

Background app refresh

When I put my iPhone down for a bit and come back to Voyager, the app resets back to the top of the feed. I then have to scroll so far down to find the place I was at.

My iPhone settings does not show Voyager app in the background app refresh settings.

I believe this setting would keep the feed in the same place when I bring the app back.

6

Presets For User Tags

Please add presets to user tags so that it may be easier to tag the specific users as typing and colour selecting each time takes a little extra effort.

I love the feature as it makes easier to track interesting characters and alts. Lemmy needs user tags more than Reddit ever did.

4

Add language

Since it is possible to choose a language for posts from the web, it would be good to do the same in the app. It would help if in the future, an automatic translation system is integrated.

List of opened posts

I'd like to be able to find a list of posts I've actually opened do I can go back and find articles and such that I didn't finish reading. I can't find a way to do this so far but if there is a way I'd be happy to learn!

1

make long pressing links useful

on android long pressing links just "drags" them as if there was some place i could drop them, but i have found no such place. i think a much more straightforward and useful feature would be to just offer to copy or open the link externally

5

show if article about to post is already posted on another instance or community.

Thunder Lemmy app shows before posting if the article that is about to be post was already posted to another community or instance. Maybe this feature can be brought to voyager as well?

2

User tagging

I would really appreciate a way to tag users, especially with the shitshow that is the ongoing decline of [insert favorite hero/villain here]. Blocking bad faith and misinformation actors gets them out of my face, but that's one less downvote. On the flip side, it's nice to keep track of the chill folks as well (like with Apollo's friend feature).

Edit: maybe also a setting to collapse certain tags by default, still hiding the rage bait but with the option to interact.

5

Saved categories

I don’t know if this would be anyhow useful for anyone else or easily implementable, but..

Categorized “Saved” list, like:

  • posts
  • links
  • media or photos, music, videos
  • comments

Maybe as a quickly switchable categories on top or just a full next sub-menu?

Another great thing would be a sorting option for the list of saved things, like:

  • by posted date
  • by saved date
  • A-Z / Z-A

To make the backtracking easier and faster?

1

screening out the subscribed community when viewing all

I like browsing through the "all" to discover new community and topics I'm unaware off. I used to do it also on Reddit. There, whenever I would subscribe to a community, I'd filter it out of the all view. Here I'm using block, but this would block the sub also from my home view. So, is ther a way to filter out the communities I'm already following?

4

theme idea

Add a green version of the Dracula theme and call it Frankenstein

4

Option to navigate by swiping left and right when viewing a post

pretty much what it says on the tin

It's a bit annoying to have to jump between post and feed view to read the comments and it would be intuitive, especially considering how this app already uses gestures, if you could just swipe while in post view to move to the post before or the post after

2

Block Instance from ... menu

It would be nice to be able to block instances from the context menu now that it's a supported feature of Lemmy!

Justification:

The scaled All feed was just spammed with tests from the same instance but different communities. I was able to block the individual communities, but didn't see an option to block the instance.

The instance in this case is some longish IP address-like numbers with extra words after, and I couldn't find a way to copy past it to the block instances section of the app.

I apologize if this has been posted. I searched but didn't find the request for added UX, just lots of asks for blocking instances itself prior to the addition to Lemmy.

3

Right click - Translate option

Really miss having this from a previous app.

3

Disable animation when jumping between top comments

Would love the option to turn off the scrolling animation when jumping between top comments.

Also wouldn't hate a jump upwards button too. 😁

2

Hide "duplicate" / cross posts

Due to the decentralized nature, and multiple communities on same subject exist across multiple instances, it is not uncommon for people to be subscribed to multiple communities of the same subject. It is also not uncommon for people to submit the same thing to multiple communities of the same subject, thereby resulting in multiple posts of the same content appearing in the feed. Cross post or not, the duplicated content clutter the feed, making it more difficult to consume content quickly.

I think it would be helpful to declutter by hiding/collapsing these posts. A possible implementation could be to keep an index of post titles, author, and submission time; then hide/collapse (cross)posts with same title, submitted by the same author, within some time interval (say for example +/- 1hr). That way the feed wouldn’t be as cluttered.

I understand cross referencing each post against other known posts is an exponentially large task, and could be very resources consuming, so even with the time range filter, it would be prudent to make this an option and likely disable by default to prevent performance issues.

It may be nice to inform the user on the post itself that there are other similar discussions, if they’re interested for other comments/interactions, but that’d be a nice to have in the future kind of thing.

2

Search via Instance X/universal search

(Hoping this post will finally make it throug now that federation issues are fixed) One of the main pain points of lemmy imo is that it is hard to find/be aware of communities your instance hasn't been connected to. In my previous app, Liftoff, I was kind of able to get around that by quickly switching to the default mode (basically guest mode for lemmy.world) and search for communities via lemmy.world, as that is one of the biggest and most well connected instances, and then subscribe via my regular account.

I wonder if there could be a way to implement something like that in Voyager. Voyager already has a guest mode that also defaults to lemmy.world, but it's not really easily accessible anymore once logged in. Being able to add a guest account to the switcher could be a quick way to make that a bit easier. Or maybe it would make more sense to add a "search via instance X" option to the search interface directly. There's also stuff like lemmyverse that aggregrates all instances and has an even more complete community search, but that would I assume be the most labour intensive way to implement a broader search feature like that.

5

Hide thumbnails for text-only posts

As the title says, I think it would be great if there was an option to hide the text-based post's thumbnails in compact view, while still showing them for other content (images, links etc.)

It would imho declutter the interface a bit and allow for better use of space (titles and a line or two of post’s text could then use this space more effectively).

Thanks in advance and keep up the good work!
