Hi all, as someone who founded r/LondonSocialClub (a place for IRL meet-ups in London) along with a few friends many moons ago, the current clusterfuck at Reddit threatens the community where I met my wife and loads of my closest friends.
There is no appetite at the moment for our inclusive subreddit to move off the grid to the fediverse, but I wanted to put a stake in the ground, just in case.
Edit:
I understand why this is bothersome for some people, but I think this is a reasonable action to take:
The community name is unique. I don't think it's plausible that another user would want to use this name except to associate themselves with our pre-existing community.
This isn't intended to prevent people from starting another community with the same or similar aim. I'd be delighted to see c/LondonMeetups or anything else pop up. I just don't want them to use our name. More people hanging with people is always good.
Otherwise, I plan to stick around this instance. I'm pretty done with Reddit now, and I hope in the future many other people feel the same way.
If you create a community. You need to ensure it is moded. If you leave a community with no mods watchingn it. And no ability for other to add mods.. You are putting the entire insta ce at risk if others start using it for illegal content.
You are placing a burden on the admin here @[email protected] to ensure your community dose not break rules. And that is your job.
I kinda agree to be honest, either run this place as a community, or don't run it at all.
What this post is effectively saying is "Hey guys, I'm going to continue to moderate over at another site, please build a community so I can be in charge it if the original one goes tits-up"
