I've been drawing maps on plain white poster board and then overlaying a transparent hex grid. So far it's worked well, but I need to make sure that the colors on the map are bold so that they're clearly visible
Great article. I got 3 ways to create maps for tabletop roleplaying games.
The easiest and improv friendly one is to draw in 1 inch grid paper.
The second one I use a lot is books of battlemaps by loke. They got amazing modular maps, easy to transport and you can draw on them with white board markers. They are a bit pricy though.
The most fancy and time intensive but also cheap one is to craft terrain. There are tons of great crafting guides out there for TTRPG terrain made out of basically trash and cheap materials that looks stunning. Very immersive.
