Let's do a small Fediverse chess tournament! Everyone is welcome to join!
We will play 10-minute games (10+0) on lichess, a free and open-source chess website. You will be assigned an opponent and will have 2 days to schedule and play your match.
I will decide on the structure of the tournament (brackets, groups etc.) based on the number of sign-ups here :)
Sign up by commenting here with your lichess account name.
Signup deadline is Wednesday, 2pm UTC. Shortly after, I'll announce the first pairings :)
Let's start the first round! As we're only 7 (edit: 9 now) I think we should do a round-robin :)
Feel free to use this comment to post the match + result
You'll have until friday 2pm utc to play your match
A lot of swings, but hopefully still interesting. As black I was happy to go up in material, but although I knew I really had to keep an eye on king safety, that's exactly what I failed to do.
(Also, as someone used to not playing with time controls, rapid feels so fast. I have no idea how people do blitz or bullet.)
@BabaDuda, what kind of times are good for you? 14:00 to 21:00 UTC is best for me, but since the games are rapid, I can be flexible about similar times.
Anyway, something I wanted to ask, but can't make into a reply to the Round 1 comment yet is what we're doing for colors. Are we randomizing each game, or should we read the person on the left as being White and the person on the right as being Black?
I'm still here, but something's definitely off... I can only see this post with my Lemmy.ml account. Lemmy.world is not loading posts and comments correctly :-/
I got frustrated because I couldn't see any new comments in the thread, and most of the old ones also disappeared for me. I also tried different instances. So I don't know if others played the second round 😅
