[Washington Post] A teen died while hiking Big Bend. His stepdad died trying to get help.

A 14-year-old boy from Florida fell unconscious while hiking in the West Texas heat, officials said, and his stepfather died in a car crash when he tried to get help.

  • Tragic, and they were visiting here form Florida too. My main question has been why are the parks that have very remote trails even open, and if open why are hikers not required to be with a guide or some sort of way to contact in an emergency.
